DLH has been a great force in boxing for many years. His entertainment value, talent, and ability has made him as popular and as important he is to boxing today. But DLH is way past his prime, we ALL know that. Why should DLH fight a fighter that is in his prime in PBF?
This fight happening will obscure the opinion of many boxing fans especially those who do not realize that DLH is not the fighter that he once was. Although DLH beat a overhyped one dimensional Ricardo Mayorga, he has performed poorly or has lost in 3 of his last 4 fights (lost to Mosely, did very poorly against Sturm, lost to Bhop). This being said, if and when PBF outpoints DLH, the boxing public will view him as if he was greater than DLH. When in all actuality, PBF will be fighting the 34 year old bone aching, back injured version of the once great DLH.
Don't be fooled by Mayweather beating DLH, a fight between them when they were both in their primes would be alot more competitive, and would probably end with DLH as the victor.
DLH is greater than PBF, not only because of his acomplishments, but because of his ENTERTAINMENT VALUE.
There's only a 4 year age difference so let's remove that as a factor. De La Hoya got to chose his weight, 154, advantage De La Hoya. PBF has never fought at that weight, so in my opinion this is a fair fight and the winner deserves all the credit.
Although there is a 4 year age difference, DLH has not fought very actively in the last couple of years, he has also not performed very well in his last couple fights (dont be fooled by the win over Mayorga).
DLH is older, has injuries, back problems, rotor cuff problems and is much slower than he ever was. Put it this way do you think that DLH's ability of that when he fought Vargas or Campas? Well that was 4 years ago. DLH is not the same fighter he once was!
People are dilusional due to his impressive victory over an exploded and destroyed Mayorga. Mayorga is by far the most overrated fighter that i have seen in this era. Don't base DLH's current ability on his performance against Mayo.
Mayorga had one famous victory in his career. And he got easily vanquished by Tito. Critics and fans alike (like me, for example) thought - WOW! TITO'S BACK! And you know how that turned out later.
He was vanquished by Tito because he stupidly fought at 160, and Tito had the perfect style to beat Mayorga. I mean seriously...who's going to beat Tito in a brawl?
In this fight, Floyd is moving up to fight Oscar, not the other way around. Floyd has had problems with lesser men than Oscar (Castillo comes to mind). The way Floyd can win is by outsmarting Oscar (in other words, Oscar fighting dumb and trying to fight Floyd's fight). If Oscar brings his A-game, he will win. Oscar will connect at some point.

While I don't think that this fight is as risky for Floyd as it would have been 5 years ago, there is still intrigue to this fight. I definitely favor Floyd to win by UD, but considering that this will be Floyd's first fight at 154 where DLH is a natural is a factor. Also, DLH has the clear power edge and while his skills are no doubt diinished, he still can box. The Mayorga fight might as well have not happened in terms of bearing on this fight because Mayorga is just worlds different than Floyd. DLH was clearly the faster and more skilled boxer against Mayorga and he will be the opposite against Floyd. I cannot see DLH winning a decision unless he hurts Floyd badly early and Floyd simply runs for the rest of the fight (think Judah-Baldomir after round 7). Otherwise DLH's best shot is for a KO by left hook which Floyd seems open to when he throws that lead straight right hand. On the other hand, I think Floyd will be waiting on that left hook all night because he knows this is DLH's best punch and the only punch that can really hurt him (I think the right hand is sort of a non-factor for DLH b/c of the infamous shoulder roll).
Please don't bring up Mayorga. That guy sucked. He had Forrest and that was it.
Eh, false. Mayorga was good because of his power and aggression and chin. That's why he was able to beat the favored Forrest. Lots of people picked Mayo to KO Oscar. That didn't happen, and Oscar gets credit for that.
No one ever said Floyd was Mayorga. Floyd poses different threats which I still think Oscar can overcome.
Just how he beat Trinidad, Mosley, Hopkins, and Sturm :haha:
He did beat tito he beat mosely the second time and he got the win againts strum.
Hatton, margarito and cotto have no chance in hell againts oscar. Even past prime oscar

24 hours ago there were thoughts the fight might not happen and now 10 minutes later you already discredit the fight? Oscar would beat Margarita, Spinks, Cotto, Hatton and eany other contender for PBS pound-for-pound status.
That don't really mean nothing and the fighters that they have shared Floyd looked more impressive against, but they were all older when they fought Floyd. With that said though, Oscar in his prime struggled with an old man Whitaker who was very elusive but nowhere near as quick. The speed is definitely going to be problem for him no matter what. Oscar just isn't a better fighter skills wise ever so we shall see if he can impose his will and size on Floyd and he better work on that stamina issue as well or it is going to be long night for him.
Whitaker was a southpaw and oscar moved the wrong way all night againts him.
Correction. You know that. I and many others certainly do not. Oscar may be a little past his prime, but his size advantage, power advantage, and overall experience can make up for that. We saw vs Mayorga that a past-prime DLH is still pretty damn good. Being past your prime doesn't mean you are over the hill. There is a significant difference between these two things.
Oscar is still good enough to beat Floyd.
just don't come on here crying when Mayweather whoops his ass. promise me that. you're not making excuses now, so don't make any when it's over.
If you're expecting a competitive fight, prepare to be disappointed. Go watch DLH-Whitaker. This was prime Oscar against faded Whitaker and he struggled. Now Oscar is the older fighter fighting someone who is going to be better than Whitaker was that night. He is going to get schooled...
we'll see, oscar/pea was close... and pea might have been past prime but how faded was he? he still hadnt "really" lost when they fought... and pea was the champ and had been at that weight for a while...this is at 154 and pbf's first fight at the weight
But DLH is way past his prime, we ALL know that.

If he beats DLH 12 rounds to none, will that be entertaining?
depends on how he does it.... but i seriously doubt a 12-0 route by pbf.... i dont expect a barn burner, but i do expect a competitive fight, which pbf hasnt had in over 3 years...
That's cool, but you didn't answer my questions.
What have to do Mayweather to have your respect ??
What should he do that you'll say, ok fine, my appologies, he's the best ?
I mean, it's really annoying, if he beats DLH, people are still finding excuses to explain why he's not so great. If he beats Spinks to, Judah , Baldo.
Machotime, I'm not personnaly talking to you, but to all people that are never happy, what does the guy have to do to be know as the best and a Hof ??
Don't tell me fight Hatton ( Hugh Grant shut up ) : Hatton don't want to fight him
Don't tell me fight Margarito : Margarito is a nobody, he needs to add big names to his records
Also, I have to add something :
People are saying that Mayweather-Baldomir wasn't entertaining, but if you have to complain about somebody, you should complain about Baldo.
I mean, the fight wasn't competitive, BUT THAT'S NOT PBF FAULT, it's because of Baldy
Gatti, Dlh, Hatton are, for you, more entertaining, but that's just because they're not dominating their opponents like Pbf do.
I respect that he is extremely skilled and talented and has titles in multiple divisions, but he does not carry himself like a true champion or a Gladiator like he claims to be. DLH will always be remembered due to his ENTERTAINMENT VALUE and accomplishments. PBF is not entertaining and his last couple of fights have actually been snoozers.
He claims to be the best, yet he demands so much money for every fight, and claims that people want too much money to fight him, then he states that "I do not need money and its not about money" . He is not a peoples champ unless he carries himself the way a true champion should.
DLH has fought better competition, has more titles, more weight divisions and was way way way more entertaining than PBF has ever been.

pbf would be more entertaining if he were fighting shane, wright, margo, hatton and williams instead of gatti, brusseles, baldy, zab, corley and sosa....
lol, the fight is fort May 5th and you are already finding excuses to explain that De la Hoya is greater than Pbf, that's pathetic...
So, you're saying that even if Mayweather dominate De la Hoya, De la Hoya is better than him....

Excuses, excuses, Many people had JLC winning, and the only reason why it was not a victory for JLC is because the younger up and coming fighter was SUPPOSED to win.
You are biased, many of your posts manifests your biasedness towards PBF. The point is that he is a cherry picking, baby-cry who will get recnognition from the public after he beats a old, injured, and slow DLH.
so let me get this straight. Mayweather is picking his opponents, but Margarito isn't...?
