The Los Angeles Times reports that Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather have come to terms for a pay-per-view mega-bout to take place on May 5, 2007. The agreement was reached late Monday afternoon.
"Oscar is really excited," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "Oscar knows he will go in as an underdog because he is facing the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world."
The event will be promoted by De La Hoya's promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions. De La Hoya is rumored to be making over $20 million for the bout, while Mayweather is said to be making over $10 million. The exact split of the fight is unknown.
De La Hoya gave Mayweather a deadline of Monday or he would pick another opponent, Mayweather gave in and the deal was agreed upon.
I personally think this will come down to who makes the most significant 'mistake' or if floyd hurts his hands again, which i unfortunately expect him to do. You can make mistakes against lesser opponents like baldomir but you can not make mistakes against dlh. The man is a seasoned champion with good power, it will cost him if he makes any mistake at all or if he comes in underestimating the golden boy.
Running is not an option for him this time and I personally dont believe he can stand and exchange with DLH. he has to fight a perfect fight to win and if he pulls off the victory it surely wont be via ko.
cant wait for Floyds first real fight but damn, until may :-/...
My point is how is looking like shit against an unknown build him up in the US? I think it was a total letdown and the only people excited about the Urango fight are in the UK. There is zero hype for that fight in the US because we know Hatton should not be fighting someone the level of Urango. Urango is a ShoBox level fighter right now...
Looking like shit against an unknown is not going to build him up in the US. But Hatton didnt intend to look like shit!
People know who Hatton is now though and they would like him to box maybe not Urango, but certainly PBF.
If you hadn't noticed, Hatton looked like shit that fight and people in the US think he's trash. Why do you think he ran back to 140 with excuses?
Yep Hatton didnt perform as he had hoped and it didnt go quite according to plan. But a win is a win!
But Hatton has won awards for being an up an coming talent, so obviously people rate him for good reason. Noone is saying he is the most beautiful boxer to watch. But as i say a win is a win. If he fought PBF and won, i doubt he would have looked beautiful beating him. He might even wrestle PBF to the floor a few times.
Did Ricky honestly expect Floyd to wait around for him when he signed a 3 fight deal that specificlly did NOT include Floyd???
This is what i dont understand. What do you mean, do i expect Floyd to wait around for him, when he signed a 3 fight deal that didnt include Floyd.
Floyd dont got a wait for anyone. Floyd should get on with doing what hes got to do, and he has, by beating Baldy, but why is he trying to rule the fight out now with Hatton?
DLH is 33 years old and he can still get a fight with FLoyd. So why the rush for Floyd to quit. Whos he running from?
But Hatton said these fights were for a reason. To showcase himself to the American public and build a higher profile there and show what he could do. Then the Mayweather fight would generate more money. There was no reason for Hatton to believe PBF wouldnt still be available for a match after his couple or so fights! It would give PBF time to do whatever he had to do as well. Do you understand where i am coming from? It will haunt Mayweather in years down the line if he doesnt get in the ring with the Mancunian.
The fight didnt happen, but as i say the politics of boxings makes things difficult a lot of the times. The fight should still be made unless yoiu retire and dont want it for whatever reason. Maybe he is scared. Maybe his isnt! I think he is! Hatton aint retiring so i am not going to have a go at the man.

Collazo is not known in the US. Urango is not known in the US. How do these fights build him up? He would get much more hype by fighting a recognizable name...
Collazo was a champ in a heavier weight and he hadnt been beaten for a long long time. I dont know if they would or wouldnt build Hattons reputation up, but it gives the Americans (America is a big, big place) an opportunity to see him fight. Maybe they will look at Hatton against Collazo, Orangutan or whatever his name is or Joe Bloggs and say to themselves. "I like this Hatton guy. He is an exciting fighter. I would like to see him against PBF"
I think the Americans know who Hatton is now, and they would like to see him againsts PBF. So Hatton has acheived what he set out to do.

Yep but a lot of people think that this offer was a smokescreen, because Mayweather knew Hatton was engaged and would turn it down. It was an empty gesture. And Mayweather underestimates peoples intelligence and maybe overestimating his own.
Boxing fans are not dumb. They are humans. ANd humans have sent men to the moon and found cures for diseases.
whatever!!! Floyd wanted the Oscar fight for $$$ that it would bring. When the fight was presented to him, he took it a week after his current fight. He accepted a fight 1 week after, he accepted reyes gloves, the smaller purse, and the venue. But you can accept Hatton saying next year. if floyd challenged me, Im dropping or paying whoever I got to step out the way so the fight can happen. That is no excuse, already engaged with somebody nobody even knew, please!

No i dont hate Mayweather. I jus hate the fact that he is talking about retirement without fighting a certain Brit. A fight he said he wanted. We know why Hatton didnt want it at the time because he was otherwise engaged. But he wants it after Castillo.
Why is PBF in such a rush to retire? Hatton said he wants him. He said he would take him out! Cant PBF wait a very short while? Things are never easy to arrange in boxing so why is PBF being so impatient and like a spoilt child?
Again i aint hating him. I hate that he is talking of retirement with his pipe and slippers! Has he got a bit of cash in the bank now, so he thinks he can call it a day. Beating DLH is still good... but i still want him to prove he can beat a certain individual who is good and in his prime, and he hasnt done it yet. If he doesnt say he aint retiring i will continue to write posts like i sound i hate him.
If the best fighter in the sport challenges you not once but atleast 3 times and you turn him down. you don't deserve the fight, you don't deserve to box anymore. Ricky can't dictate when the fight should happen, it ain't on his terms, he should have fought when he was asked to fight. Instead the lil guy says next year every year when comes to accepting the challenge.

laugh, it's impossible to take anyone seriously who calls JLC a nobody.
The only respect I give Hatton is for trying out 147, but guess what, I take that respect right back when he instantly fled back to 140. That there is pure chickenshit cowardice.
And yes he beat Kostya, but I'm pretty sure it was in a wrestling match, not a boxing one.
Funny how badly Ricky looked when he fought outside England, without a WWF referee, against someone more qualified than the cab drivers he stacked his record with.
Truth hurts. Get mad. owwwww.
Yep but Tysu may or not have been past his best but he didnt lose fights like DLH has. People didnt beat Kostya for us to say he was past his prime. I dont know where DLH is p4p at the moment but Kostya was arguably still the top p4p whether or not he was at his prime. So give Hatton respect.
Floyd is very good but his record dont fool anyone. He wants to be an atg but hewont be an ATG with Castillo as his best opponent. In 20 years time Castillo is a nobody.
No i aint a joke man. I rate ODLH very much. One of my faves. But Mayweather wants shortcuts and wants everyone to say how good he is compared to the other greats like Ali, SRR on the basis of this possible victory and i aint gonna give him credit on the basis of beating a past it DLH. DLH is past his prime but i still give him a great chance to beat Mayweather.
lol, you are to Ricky Hatton what Ferocity is to Margarito, fucking obssessed.
De la Hoya is a much better opposition than Tszyu. Tszyu-Hatton was a fucking joke, that was the worst ref i've seen in my life. Hatton is just a poor wrestle, the guy lost to Collazo...
DLH at his peak was as good as Tyzu, but DLH is way past it. When Kostya fought Hatton Kostya was very highly rated whereas DLH isnt now!
Collazo would give Mayweather a better fight than DLH at this stage of DLH's career, and i think DLH has a great chance against Mayweather
