This has everything to do with the fact that he briefly trained Briggs prior to the Lyakhovich fight. I think this is a smart move for Sultan because that guy he had in his corner, Panama Lewis really sucks as a trainer.
Anybody know how this Mayweather brother compares to the others?
I wonder if Floyd would train anybody or is he to Rich for that
He is a good trainer I have heard, but he was by far the worst fighter of the family. Sultan would be better off with Lewis if he could work the corner.
If he's given a second chance and screws up again, then his "screw up" could result in another life altering injury or worse a death. I just don't think that a guy whose intentionally compromised the safety of a fighter's life be cheating should be trusted again.
For the steroid issue I think that the penalties should be harsh (5 year suspension) but not life long.
No I definitely see your point...why should other fighters be endangered. I tend to agree with your steroid penalty although I have to feel for guys that take seemingly safe supplements and end up testing positive.
I mean cheating in general is unforgiveable but I am not one to give somebody a life sentence because of one mistake. Clearly this was a BIG mistake and I have no issues with the idea that he should be suspended for a long time for a stunt like that (5-10 years) but after that why not give the guy a 2nd chance? If he messes up again well then that's a pattern and there is just no room for that in sports. On a sort of related topic...do you think there should be life-long suspensions in boxing for fighters that test positive for steroids?

Lewis also spent time in Prison over the move so he has paid his debt. I do doubt this was the only time he did something of this nature. The only reason he got caught was Collins father thought the gloves felt strange after he congratulated the other fighter after the fight. I doubt it was Panamas first time with this stunt.
If my memories right, didn't Panama Lewis stuff the glove with something hard of the fighter he was cornerman for? That my friend is unforgiveable.

No he pulled stuffing from the fighters glove against Billy Collins which did result in permanate eye damage to him. He also had a suspicious move in the second Pryor fight against Arguello where he ask another cornerman for a different water bottle."Get the one I mixed". Oddly enough they were no drug testing after the fight which Pryor got a second wind after drink the mysterious substance in the bottle. Lewis is a better teacher than Mayweather IMO.
I mean I definitely don't respect the fact that Lewis cheated and it almost resulted in a serious injury, but we shouldn't act like he is the only guy to ever "cheat" in boxing. I tend to think that if the guy truly is sorry and doesn't make any future mistakes that he deserves a second chance. That being said I think Mayweather is a better trainer and this will be a good move for Ibragimov.

Does that mean he's dropping Panama Lewis all together? I hope so because Lewis is a plague to boxing and that bad karma might rub off on Sultan.
