Looks like Calzaghe and Manfredo are on:
Earlier today, **********.COM reported 'the Contender' season one runner-up Peter Manfredo Junior had been lined up to challenge IBF/WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe.
This appears to be the case, with Manfredo's trainer Freddie Roach confirming that the 26-3 (12KOs) American has signed a contract to travel to the UK in the New Year to take on the undefeated Welshman.
"Peter has signed for it," the Wildcard Gym guru told SecondsOut. "The fight's in March in Great Britain and Peter's gonna shock a lot of people by outboxing Joe Calzaghe."
When this reporter suggested that Manfredo would be taking a major step up in class against a fighter who hasn't been beaten since 1990, Roach scoffed.
He said: "Come on - gimmie a break! Who has Calzaghe fought apart from Jeff Lacy? Peter's a much better boxer than Lacy is and while Calzaghe has a good chin, Peter and myself are very confident of outboxing Calzaghe.
"It's a very winnable fight for Peter."
Interesting stuff!

Does Roach have alzheimers? :ugh:
Calzaghe had an expensive divorce not so long ago, as well as needing more US exposure, so think this is a good business decision for him (wouldn't bother paying for the fight - though I'd probably watch it if I'm at the pub).
He blows out Manfredo impressively, that sets up a bout with Taylor? Kessler?
Wright? Woods?
Think it will be an American fighter anyway because that is where the money will be - hopefully Taylor.
As regards to Bika, wasn't he the mandatory?
Put up a good effort anyway - tough & tricky, with Calzaghe taking him too lightly.
This is a total and complete mismatch. Good shit Frank Warren, Calzaghe will retire undefeated.
Yea we all know, but I hope this news is true. I can't wait to see Manfredo get KO'd back to reality. His head was getting waaay too big. You ever hear this guy in interviews?
i was at peters last fight and he did pretty good. i still think he needs a couple moer fights with ppl like green before even thinking abotu going against joe. im a huge fan of peters, never watched the contender so i cant say if he has improved or not but i will be rooting for him
Yes he does. And as king he can choose where and whom of his suspects he's going to deliver a beating to. That is his right.
Yes, that it is. He's always made good use of this right to pick opponents.
Bad move by the Contender ppl and fREDDIE he needed at least a few more bouts agaist guys like green, mundine and maybe Lacy before facing someone like Calzaghe this is Suicide for Manfredo and who ever said Manfredo could "outbox" someone like Calzaghe is Crazy.
Its meant to be a reference to jangeorg's thread a while back, you annoying idiot.
Anyone who didn't read 'are' as a deliberate instance of Dane-english does not pay very much attention.
Yeah the way I see it if Calzaghe cant stop Manfredo before the end of the fight he will loose on points, Manfredo's fight plain will be too outbox him.
Manfredo isn't going to outbox Calzaghe. Joe can box at full level for 12 rounds without slowing down.
Still i expect Joe to finish this one quickly. He's got a big named fight but not against a big threat.
I think the world would see way too much of what he's got. And not in a good way.
I still really can't see this happening though, unless it's part of the agreement that gets Taylor into the ring a couple of months later.
