What's next for Sergei?

you dont need an iron chin. mcline,,,botha,,,sedrick fields,,and darrol wilson had far from iron chins Those guys all have the reach though. Except Botha. I didn't see the fight but I read Briggs gassed out on that one.

Sergei had the power to hurt him. The right to the body hurt, Briggs even admitted this. Sergei just rarely threw rights to the head. I guarantee you in a rematch Sergei would be much more focused and use his power more effectively from the begining. On the contrary Briggs would have no choice but to fight as he did as he trained harder than ever for Sergei and still had no stamina. Sergei needs to get in boxing shape, mentally and physically, and he will be fine. He needs to stay busy though. I have a strong feeling that inactivity will ruin a guy like Sergei. He should be fighting every few months. We've seen the best of what Briggs is capable of, after 110 rounds of sparring, and it isn't much. Sergei will get his revenge if the two fight again. PS Immediate rematch contract or not, it's only fair for Briggs to give Sergei his rematch, especially considering Sergei was ahead at the time of the knockout. Maybe. Doesn't seem surefire though. It could just get him knocked out earlier. I think you underestimate Briggs' dangerousness 'cause he looks so pathetic.

That is not the case at all IMO. He'd been getting tagged all night by the heavy handed Briggs. You make it sound like a clean knockout. He more or less fell through the ropes on his own accord from exhaustion and an accumulation of punishment the second time, not any one big punch. I think the second last punch before the first knockdown put Lyakhovich out on his feet. If not, the follow up did. When he got up his eyes were glazed and his legs were unsteady. That's why he fell through the ropes on his own.

Sergei fought smart until the mid rounds when he needed to change his plan and go after Briggs more. He didn't press him enough to take advantage of his tired state. Instead he just posed and moved around and wasted energy. He needed to hurt Briggs at that point, when Briggs was slow and he was still fresh. It was too late in the 12th when both men were spent but Briggs had the heavier hands. Sounds risky. If Briggs can knock Lyakhovich out in the 12th, he can do it in the 7th. And like his trainer said, Lyakhovich doesn't seem to really have the power to hurt Briggs. This plan doesn't really seem like a sure fire improvement.

Lyakhovich did fight a smart fight (though a very ugly one), he just got caught.

i think he needs a few tune ups before facing another belt holder... or needs to learn how to throw a punch in a fight... do you guys think he deserves a rematch with Briggs or more tune ups before Rematch? No. He obviously wasn't ready for the mantel of "champion". He should have to face a tough slew of journeymen and fringe contenders on ESPN2's FNF's to show he can handle pressure before being allowed to fight for a title again.

Shannon Briggs looked alot more like SHIT than Sergei did. i agree he only fought in the 12th round ... till than all he did was staying in one place and getting hit with some jabs.. Sergei actually did something

Fuck rematching Briggs. Sergei has a lot to prove, and there are a dozen or so competitive matchups out there waiting for him. PLus he is a name now, and can draw more media/ fan attention than some others in the Top 15. What about Sergei vs. Peter? or Brock if he loses to Klitschko?
