Lets poll this up!
Sugar Ray Leonard fought some of the best welterweights ever known and impressive many. Lots of people grew up with Leonard and respect his skills a lot. Leonard brought speed, accuracy, heart, courage, toughness, technique, power, balance, stamina, ambition, and focus.
Mayweather is the best of his era and is still proving how he fights on his own level. Mayweather brings so many skills to the table. His highlights are speed, accuracy, courage, toughness, technique, balance, stamina, focus, evasion, and defense.
To me the only differences between the fighter was Leonard had the power, Mayweather has the defense. Defense always wins that battle 90% of the time so my pick is Mayweather is the most exciting 12 rounds of boxing ever witnessed.
I don't think Leonard would KO Floyd. I think they are both very smart. Floyd has been trained by 2 former fighters. Leonard would win since he's bigger and stronger.
Leonard proved over & over again that he could dig deep to ensure a victory
- Floyd's only probably ever had to do that maybe once or twice, & the results weren't particularly impressive (Castillo).
Leonard by late rounds KO - maybe behind slightly on points after early rounds due to Floyd's quick hands & movement, but Leonard bulls his way though, landing big punches from round 6.
(Leonard also had one of the best chins of all time, & I don't see anything Floyd throws once Leonard gets determined slowing him down.
Fight is at Welterweight)
You forgot to mention Floyd's shoulder was injured.
1. theres a difference between courage and commitment.
2. if floyd tried his hardest in every fight, he would'vd knocked out every one of his opponents.
watch some boxing before you talk about boxing, plz.
blah blah blah. You don't get intelligent replies when trying to be internet cool.

Most boxers that train hard as hell and try their hardest in every fight have courage.
Thanks for the mature reply...

mayweather had courage? im not saying he didnt have heart but "courage" was not really an asset of his cuz he never really did anything... courageous.
and you think that a floyd/leonard fight would be 12 of the most exciting rounds in boxing history? dude, the perfect word to describe you is::crackhead

leonard . bigger stronger faster more skills more use of the ring space way way way way better comp. anyone who voted for floyd has his balls crammed in thier ass.
You stupid....you are just another Mayweather hater playa...because others are fans, you feel the need to say stupid shit about them...state facts playa not bullshit...Why would Sugar win??Why would he lose???....
None of that has anything to do with Leonard's strategy against Duran. Angelo Dundee and Team Leonard openly said they didn't want Leonard backing up or dancing against Duran in the first fight as you'll see here.
I would pick Leonard by KO.
Well, can't argue with that. Whether Dundee said it because Leonard had already decided to fight Duran that way or because they thought it would give him the best chance, they did say it right there on the clip. That's odd, I've seen that fight before and don't remember hearing that, guess I wasn't paying attention lol

floyd mayweather jr wins against ray leonard. floyd is smarter than leonard in the defense department and his overall strategy would be better than ray's imo. the way floyd would train for the fight would be another factor in his win and during the match floyd will have a better gameplan in my book. floyd wins by ud or late round tko.
How the hell would Floyd TKO Leonard?
Leonard fought Duran, Hearns and Hagler.
As far as Floyds defence being a factor. I think it would be a real chess match. But again, Leonard outboxed an amazing boxing in Benitez. Plus Leonard punches harder, can dig in and brawl, plus his chin is great. He fought at supermiddleweight.
IF Mayweather outpoints him early, Leonard would start fighting with Floyd, and he is quick enough to catch him and hurt him. Floyd has never been in a fight like that.

I think Hearns was overtrained against SRL. But i also think that Ray's power is very underrated. Leonard was able to hurt Hearns. I doubt Mayweather could do the same.
Leonard power is underrated
but it was lack of stamina and the consequent accumulation of punches that costed Hearns the fight
I'm not so sure Leonard was as green as he was infuriated by Duran's degrading remarks toward his family, he's said before that he fought the wrong fight because Duran basically got inside his head.
