If Floyd is boring then you should stop watching boxing. There is nobody out there with any skills close to him. He outclasses everyone and its onesided so it may be boring to you but it technical to me. Stop hating.
Baldomir didnt have any choice. He wasnt the one coasting. And he isnt the one who people consider the best fighter in the world.
I havent heard any real criticism of Baldomir, not from people posting, nor the commentators.
By that it would seem obvious that the crowd werent booing Baldomir.
I think they were booing the general lack of action from the fight. Not really either fighter.
But if one of the fighters could of added some real excitement it was Floyd. But they werent to know he had a hurt right hand.
they prolly was booing the fight and not the fighters, but you can't specualte that they were booing him for coasting? if anything, they should be booing HBO and Baldomir. HBO for saying and expecting a huge challenge and baldomir for not being able to come thru and allowing Floyd to coast. I agree he was coasting and winning with 1 hand, but that just shows how good he is. there is no one in the WW division that can truly test him right now. They all are at 160 lbs. i just think the commentators were a joke, in the 8th round they said we havn't seen punches like this since Roy Jones anb by the 11th round Emanuel Steward is saying Cintron would give him a run for his $$$, what the hell?
How do you know they were booing him? Couldn't they be booing Baldomir for not competing like they thought he would? Why is that you think they were booing Floyd, I didn't hear any FLOYD U SUCK?

I understand your point, but let me ask you.
how could being more disciplinate affect Duran negatively?
my general answer to the post is the following link:

Looks like a great article, il read it sometime soon.
As for the question about Duran. I dont know. No one will ever know. Some athletes, wen they lose their temper and become more controlled or diciplined, they lose the aggressive element that made them so effective.
I think if u change Duran in ANY way, he wouldnt of been Duran.
thats not commentating, that's being a critic. If he was commentating he would have asked What would you say to the people who were booing and thought the fight was boring and felt like you could have been more entertaining? He asks his in degrading and personal matter, that's called being critic.
Yea, u have a point. He could have re-phrased it.
Yet i still think Floyd really over reacted.
All Larry said is "U have often spoke of boxing as entertaing, u came to the ring dressed as a gladiator. Do u think this was particularly entertaing? There were people booing. There were people leaving by the 10 and 11th round"
I dont think there is anything degrading about what he said. And i believe even if Larry did ask it in the way u suggested, Floyd would have still been offended, and gone on a immature rant.
Can I start by saying I am a fan of all Floyd Mayweather has done, and I thoroughly enjoy watching him fight. That said, Mayweather had his pride injuried and mouthed off in a very disrespectful manner. Merchant stated a fact- people were booing him. That was a fact- not a question or opinion. Floyd stated, as Larry said, that he was an entertainer...when people boo they aren't being entertained. When they compared Mayweather to fighters of old, and said he didn't stack up, I understand what they meant- they meant that if Ali or Robinson or Leonard had such an easy opponent in front of them they would have entertained by doing their best- Floyd coasted. He wanted his money. He wanted his victory. He had no intention of mixing it up when he could win easily. That's his right. I know that. When people at ringside have paid hundreds of dollars to watch you, though, maybe you should realize you can at least attempt to be a little more entertaining?

Floyd cannot take criticism.
He was asked a valid an simple question, and it was Merchants right as a commentator to let Floyd respond to the fact that people were walking out before the end of the fight.
It wasnt just Merchant who was criticizing Floyds style, all three comentators were.
Larrys job is to ask the questions, and get the fighters opinions and thats wat he tried to do.
What the fuck is the point of stating the obvious, that Floyd is extremely talented, and can box any guys head off.
He did compliment Floyd during the fight.
I hate ass kissing interviews. Larry asked him different questions, but the one that Floyd didnt like, he starting acting like a spoilt child.
(He also exposed his lack of intelligence by saying Larry should stick to commentating.....thats wat he was doing )

It wasn't Floyd's fault for fighting the fight he did, but when you open your mouth and tell everyone you're better than Robinson, you can't be surprised when people criticizing you for not living up to the talk. Mayweather needs to stop comparing himself to Robinson and just do his talking in the ring. He's bringing this stuff on himself with what he says.
That was classic SRR stuff right there. he displayed the P4P theory for you. You think robinson was taking punches just to please the fans. Did Ali take punches just to please the fans, did SRL take punches? He countered, out manuevered, and had a boxing clinic on A guy who walks around at 180 lbs. If that don't describe what P4P means,i don't know what does
Is it Floyd fault that Baldomir couldn't contend? Even after having said that he hurt his hand halfway through the fight & still dominated til the last round Merchant still asks Floyd why it wasn't that entertaining, well i was entertained( & so should all lovers of the sweet science, Bladi was getting beat to the punch, dodged & countered all night long) & if anyone should have been asked that question it should have been Baldomir.
Exactly, these stupids on here, talking about Floyd ran all night. he never ran, he dodged and bob and weaved all night, but he never ran. They hate him because he too good. They really expect him to allow himself to get hit to prove something. that's not boxing, that's not the sweet science. If they want to see a slug fest they should go to their local bar! That would make me want to reitire too, now who you con watch display the sweet science, Calzaghe?
Floyd sounds like a kid telling his daddy you always gimme a hard time, I never get credit for the things i do, nothing I do is ever good for u!!
lol
I thought that was funny.
I just hope next time mayweather knocks him out:boxing:
I mean seriously, though. What kind of person has to be so damned insecure as to have the need to tell everyone how great he is? If you're so damned good, Floyd, you wouldn't have to tell us. You actions in the rind would tell us.
A person who takes the time to actually let you know what kind of person they are and how great they are and how much money they make, is just an insecure prick. Just my opinion.

Can we all admit Floyd was content to coast? Yes, he hurt his hand in the middle of the fight...but still- I believe Mayweather is the pound for pound champion right now...he says he is better than the legends of old. Well, he has to prove he deserves such an honor by doing more than coasting. I thought it was a masterful performance...but if he wants to say he is the best boxer EVER- the best boxer in the history of the sport he needs to do more than coast along, making the crowd upset they paid such steep costs to be there. He needs to tattoo the face of Baldomir, make him look plain stupid, and give 110%. Floyd put on a great show...not a legendary show. Agreed? He looked flawless, but no one will remember this fight with excitement or emotion.
Floyd was an asshole. All Merchant did was observe that Floyd likes to call himself the best boxer of all time- the best entertainer- and yet somehow the crowd still ended up bored. Did they boo Ali, Leonard, et al. like that? I just think Mayweather had his sensitive pride injured when Merchant pointed out that not everyone appreciated his performance. In fact, I wager Mayweather heard them talking smack about him during the fight and was in a crap mood. His hand hurt, the crowd had booed- Floyd was in a bad mood. Then Merchant came at him and his true personality seeped out- a very ego driven, sensitive man who needs people to respect him for his self esteem.
Mayweather was in bad form.
(I wanted to get 100% of my thoughts on the matter out.)
Floyd sounds like a kid telling his daddy you always gimme a hard time, I never get credit for the things i do, nothing I do is ever good for u!!

Robinson was tested again and again, in everyway possible, and he is considered the greatest because he was successful over such a long period of time, and could do almost anything in the ring.
The flaws u point out for Robinson and Duran IMO dosent take away from them being considered maybe the greatest ever, because a perfect fighter has never existed.
Every fighter is beatable and has their flaws, twhat makes them great is the ability to overcome their flaws. Like Ali did wen he lost his speed.
If Mayweather had one punch KO ability he would take more cances and get hit more because he would become a more aggresive fighter. His defensive game would suffer.
So i dont agree with u about the greatest fighter having to be both defensivly great and be a ko fighter.
The best KO fighters get hit very little coming forward, their defense is very good for somone being aggressive.
I dont think a fighter can be both evenly.
I understand your point, but let me ask you.

my general answer to the post is the following link:

2. Robinson is not the greatest fighter ever, his defensive/technical shortcomings are covered by his all time great chin, and his all time great power. The greatest fighter ever has to combine those natural talents, with a comparable level of skills. The level of skills Mayweather has reached is that level (and I am not talking about defensive skills only), but his power is not there, and we dont know about his heart. So it cant be someone like him either. Someone like Roberto Duran lacked the discipline. I could go on with something for every fighter I know but one: Joe Gans, but he is so far back in time and I have seen footage from only one fight, the rest is words and pictures.
(please note 2. does not imply that I rate Mayweather above or equal to Robinson)

ok so if he say "im the greatest boxer ever" instead of "im the greatest fighter ever" does that make it a world of a diffrence.....
because to me, boxing is just that... BOXING and to me you dont have to have 1 punch knockout power to be the best boxer
me personally, i think roy jones is the best... and thats just me, but we will never know who the best EVER is, its all opinions... some will say tyson prime.. some will say dempsy i mean, the list goes on
but as of right now, 2006... floyd is the best boxer in the world, and until he lose yall cant take that from him
anyway all i was saying is mayw. is not the complete package, but his skills are so awesome that they made me see how Robinson was not the complete package either. and as i said in the other answer, mayw. has a spot with the likes of Tunney, Pep, Whitaker. A spot which I cant exactly place until I have seen the end of mayw.'s career

I have no doubt mayweather is the best active fighter/boxer.
I also rate his skills up there with the best ever (pep, pea, gans, tunney)
roy jones had physical talents (except for his chin, which i dont consider glass, but neither great) which are up there with the likes of robinson or gans, but skillwise he lacked a lot, and he started paying for that, now that his physical gifts are going... If he ever met a physical duplicate of himself in the ring, and his duplicate had more refined skills, he would have been in serious trouble... as we all know there was no physical duplicate around to check this.
Merchant is entertaining at times but I really don't like the way he disrespect boxers. He was just reciprocated by Floyd who isn't know for his modesty aswell.
