Always one of my favorite rounds in Heayvweight history and someone upped it to Youtube.
Amazing how either of these guys were standing at the end of that round.
Great fight. I watched it live on ABC back in the day.. Lost 20 bucks, I bet on Norton. Watching big fights on regular TV was the best. Saw Ali- Norton 2 or 3, don't remember, on TV. That was my awakening to boxing and Ali. In 1979 I lived in Las Vegas...fuckin awesome. I was at Holmes vs Shavers, another great fight. Actually got in the ring at Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion and shadow boxed, felt really good.
Thats where I met Roberto Duran and Freddie Roach. Being a big boxing fan I was in heaven.
This is probably one of the best 15th rounds in history, IMO, definitely one of my favourite. A prime example of slugging being brutal and at the same time, in it's own way, beautiful.
Had Norton been able to win the 13th round he probably would have won the fight, but Holmes had him ready to go and almost put him down.
Another thing that was great about this fight? It was broadcast live on network TV. A fight between two fighters of that caliber today would definitely cost 50 clams for PPV.
A perfect illustration of why boxing had more popularity back then than it does now.
Someone posted this the other day I think. Yeah Norton may have been a truly great fighter if he didn't freeze against the very big punchers. Thats what makes the sport of boxing so great though, styles make fights.
