Recently, there have been rumors that Lou Dibella has contacted Main Events about pairing together the undefeated New Yorker Dmitriy Salita and Arturo Gatti. Salita just won his last fight last Wednesday, and is 25-0-1.
Salita told me that he wants that fight to happen, but he is going to take another fight at 140 sometime next year, so that fight may have to wait. That may be in Gatti's favor cuz he needs to recover from the Baldomir fight.
It's going to be an interesting scenario, as there are so many variables that factor into this matchup. Is Dmitriy Salita ready for this precipitous stepup in competition? Does Arturo Gatti have anything left? I don't know, but I want to find out.
Jersey City's Gatti, New York City's Dmitriy Salita. Sounds like alot of fun.

Yea I read about this a few days ago on some other news sites and wanted to see if u guys mentioned it hear.
- Here are my thoughts on that fight,
Really I dont think Gatti should be fighting again. Has a true gatti fight in every sense of the word I was appauled when I heard he was considering taking this fight with Salita. Salita is weak opposition and should have a 1 in the loss column and not the draw column. I have seen this kid fight a few times and I am not impressed at all. He has a weak chin, slow, mediocore power, he does have some heart. But if Gatti does not blow this guy out within 5 rounds he should be embarassed.
Right now I am still contemplating on even going to this fight, since I was so disgusted by going to the Baldiomir fight that I chucked my program frisbee style into the crowed after Gatti god TKO'd
I don't think Arturo Gatti should be boxing any more. He's been in so many tough fights, his family and team behind him should be advising him to hang em up imo.
Ive seen salita fight twice, live @manhattan center and let me tell you something, this guy is seriously overated.......gatti would murder him....wanna talk about gattis old and this and that....an elderly gatti would murder this kid..............and his last two wins were gifts. I am close friends with edgar santana, his stablemate I see these guys training all the time......im not hating im just speaking my mind.
Anyone can call me a sentimental fool, but, in a fight held in the immediate future, I am not discounting a Gatti win, given what little I've seen of Salita.
There's nothing not to like about the match up; not even reservations about how much Gatti has left. If anything, it gives me all the more reason to like it: I'd rather stop guessing and like to know with some amount of certainty if Arturo still has enough left. The fight lends such an opportunity.
Well, I've already been accused of sensationalism, both literal and super naturally LOL:banana: Boxing is not exactly a sedate teaparty conversation piece. :)
Salita has already gotten 2 gifts in his career. He should have 2 loses. They did Delgado real dirty in their fight, he deffinately won. Im not impressed with Salita at all.
This puts new (and positive) meaning to "Sensationalized reporting", doesn't it?;)

i think gatti has a lot more left then u guys are giving him credit for.
The only reason i thought gatti should have retired was because his dream was to get a belt in another division.
The competition is waaaay to strong for that in the welterweight division. He has enought to compete with them, but not win.
Salita is a fine opponent for gatti and id take him winning anyday. even though salita will prolly be my favorite fighter after hatton goes.
It'd be kool if Salita and Santana have a 10 round broadway fight before fighting for a belt, Gattis a good fight, but that'll be better
On the real, that fight makes alot more sense than Gatti. I would love to see this one, but I have all kinds of doubts as to whether the powers that be would allow this one to go down, given their promotional ties to Dibella. I would love to see this fight, it would give us a reason to want to see one of them again on some can't miss stuff.
Either way, I want to see both of those guys in with serious competition soon. I would like to see Salita win a title belt, then come into the Gatti fight an opponent who brings some serious credentials.
Hell yeah, I would love to see this fight. Salita is exciting, him and Gatti have a thing for making things with their fights, whether to their benefit or detriment. I hope this fight comes off.
I have to question how much of a step up this will be for Salitas. I don't know if Gatti has enough left in the tank to challenge the young bull.
Two things are certain, though.
This fight would pack the Garden
Gatti would give whatever he has left in this fight
