Both faced a very similar opposition
+ Trinidad has a controversial win over DLH.
- Trinidad retired on a bad note, taking a one way beating (Wright)
+ DLH - Six division champion
- Two Losses to Mosley
i feel that DLH was definately more popular than Trinidad but i feel that Trinidad(in terms of quality of competition and performances) ranks slightly higher
I guarantee most people are picking de la hoya based on popularity. Trinidad is the more accomplished prizefighter, most mags and experts would agree with me. 5 of de la hoya's 12 major wins were trinidad leftovers.
The one fight I wish he'd made and I believe he would have definitely lost is Tszyu, shame that didn't happen.
Agree, i've always wanted to see Dela Hoya vs Tszyu at 140lbs.
I've gone for Oscar, not particularly for his wins over 6 weight classes, but because I can't remember a fight in which he's been comprehensively dominated - which given he started at 130 and faced Bernard Hopkins, Mosley and Tito himself is pretty impressive, added to all his good wins.

Oscar de la Hoya hands down. His list of victories is a who's who of boxing greats, which also includes a masterful boxing performance over Trinidad and six different belts.
from a 100th time
Tito's IBF belt meant nothing (of course the fights for the IBF belt took place, and props to tito for those victories)
De La Hoya was THE welterwight champion.
when Tito "beat" De La Hoya he became THE welterweight champion and he immediately vacated.
Well who was there left to fight after the DLH fight? There were some paper champs that i recall but no more big name fighters Tito clean them all up with the exception of Quartey who DLH "beat" and Quartey fell off the map for a period after that.
Also Tito didn't vacate immediately, it was after not being able to make a second fight deal. The big big question was why was sooo much money left on the table. Everyone knows about the legendary PPV buys that Tito vs DLH I produced and it made both fighters tons of cash.
However they were never able to agree on terms for a second fight.
Simple test:
Tito unified Welterweight division during a time that it was a great division. Took on ALL the top Welterweights available and was UNDEFEATED at WW and was acknowledged as the lineal champ at SMW aswell. Tito didn't lose till he went to MIDDLEWEIGHT, which proved he just went a bit too high and couldn't beat true great middleweights.
DLH great career but unified SMW after Tito vacated his belts there. DLH also went a step to far and also got demolished when he went to Middleweight. DLH has more star and mass market appeal but seriously guys dont let that cloud reasoning.

I think you should go watch that fight again. And listen closely to what Tito said to oscar just after the fight "You beat me". WHy does his eyes pop out of his head when gets the decision? Because he knew he didn't win that fight. Oscar made TITO look bad over 8 rounds.
And watch how Oscar control Vargas then watch how Tito fought Vargas.
Tito never told Delahoya "You beat me". That was just Delahoya trying to make himself look good. It's the same thing Leonard said about Hagler which was a lie.
Delahoya/Vargas like Trinidad/Vargas was a close back and forth fight until the final rounds. Vargas took a worse beating from Tito. Tito also took on a much better Vargas than Delahoya did. Tito took on a much better Hopkins than Delahoya did as well. You can add in Mayorga to that as well.

Bare in mind tho Tito RUINED Vargas, the guy was an undefeated champion with a ridiculas KO % when he fought Trinidad, not the same guy after it
Better Legacy: Let's analyze it provided PBF is Oscar's last fight.
Trinidad (1990-2005) 44 fights, Dela Hoya (1992-2007) 43 fights
Middleweight: both Tito and Oscar got stopped by Bernard Hopkins, but Trinidad was an odds on favorite to beat B-Hop, DLH was an underdog against Nard, Trinidad also KO former MW champions Joppy and Cherifi, DLH got a gifted decision over Sturm. Edge: Trinidad
Junior Middleweight: Trinidad destroyed David Reid (14-0) and Fernando Vargas (20-0) Dela hoya, lets say he beats PBF but that doesnt change since Mayweather was smaller and making a big leap at 154. DLH beats Castillejo, a shot Vargas soften up by Tito, a faded Campas and lost a controversial decision to Mosley, Edge: I still give it to Tito
Welterweight: Trinidad was 16-0 at WW, including KO wins over Campas (56-0) Carr (32-0) Oscar had a close victory over Quartey, Both beat Camacho and Whitaker, Tito hands down at welter, he fought everyone else and had a longer reign.
Dela Hoya dominated the best fighters from 130-140 and had one sided wins over an old Chavez, a prime Gonzales, Ruelas, Hernadez, both great champions losses were against naturally bigger men, Mosley started at 135, Oscar 130, Winky was a long time 154 pounder while Tito 147. the advantages dela hoya had is all his decision losses were close but No shame on Trinidad losing a lopsided decision to winky wright coming off a two year layoff taking on one of the best pound for pound boxers.
In an interview back in 98', Trinidad stated he prefers fighting DLH at 154, having difficulty making the welterweight limit but he stayed on that weight class just to make the DLH fight happen, Their fight was close and both were losers that night. Trinidad demanded a rematch at higher weight class where DLH obliged. Its always Tito who fought them first before Dela hoya gets through that opponent. and he's not afraid to faced his opponents at their very best, Dela hoya (shades of SRL) would only stepped in a ring against the elite if he has several advantages, like the catch weight vs hopkins at 157lbs.
Bottomline: Trinidad has slightly better legacy than Dela Hoya.
Good post sir! :fing02:
However i think because of the way Hopkins and Wright completely outboxed Tito with such ease History will be kinder to Oscar but i agree with ur post
sorry playa...Tito beat DLH....just check the records...it was a fight that could have indeed went either way..judges judge different things within a fight..They judged Tito as the winner...He beat DLH and other great fighters also...He also lost to two great fighters as well..legacy has it that DLH is the better money maker and TITO is the better champion/fighter..

DLH has a better legacy....but that is due to his marketability. DLH was a 6 division champ and was the face of boxing for a while.
On the other hand those that know boxing and saw them throughout their career know that DLH lived in Tito's shadow. DLH fought Vargas, Carr, Campas, Mayorga after Tito had already demolished them and they were not the same fighters after fighting Tito.
Both of the fighters will be remembered greatly, but Tito left the game in a ugly way, which contributes to the way people percieve him.

I think Oscar at the moment just shades it, and depending on the Mayweather fight, that'd make the gap even bigger, whereas if he loses that won't really affect his standing.
