Not only does he have superb balance, a beautiful darting jab, splendidly quick hands and feet and frightening timing at times, but he's much stronger than Mayweather and has abnormal stamina (due to a hole in his heart) that allows him to fight bell-to-bell in every round and remain strong. I don't believe Ricky would be too focussed on his finesse in a Mayweather bout, he'll be focussing on speed at closing the distance and breaking rythm, while looking to frustrate Mayweather into leaving himself open to body shots.
He's famous for his body punching ofcourse, with 20+ KO's coming from the left hook to the body, and IMO no former super-featherweight could withstand Hatton's body shots. So for Mayweather to win this fight, he'd need to use a very high punch output (to keep Hatton off him) and dictate from ring centre (because he can't let Hatton get him to the ropes where he'd tee off from angles). But Hatton stood next to Mayweather in Las Vegas last year and says he doesn't know how Mayweather could really keep him off him, because he was quite suprised at how much naturally physically thicker he was to Mayweather.
He has no respect for Mayweather's strength and power, and will be looking to throw him off with a very fast tempo, as well as giving him a lot to think about with feints, footwork, angles, jabs and clinches. As for the body punches, he has developed techniques to land them on anybody - for example he clinches occasionally after burrying his head into a man's chest if he needs a rest, but then moves back slightly and unloads with bombs to the hips. Unless a referee is particularly strict on clinching or something, Hatton has developed this ability to clinch and move out at the right time to land to the body with momentum. And watch over the last few years if Ricky is having trouble with somebody at a certain point he'll hold his hands over his face in a high guard and then simply push through, using sheer strength to get his man on the ropes and then tee off on him with some serious shit.
Are you talking about the first Castillo fight or the second?
I am just mentioning this because Floyd beat Castillo both times, 2nd time was more convincing...also, Hatton and his team talk about the reason they would win is because Duran beat Leonard...true, but that was in the first fight where Leonard didn't follow his game-plan...I guess they didn't see the second fight between Duran and Leonard.
JL Castillo is more skilled than Hatton and we all saw how Mayweather toyed with him in the second fight (PBF claims he was sick for the first fight). At 140, Floyd has the power, speed, and skill to make Hatton look like Gatti. He would hit Hatton so much that his face would blow up to twice it's size and he'd get KO'd before 9 rounds.
Hatton's defense is his offense. He doesn't cover up, he doesn't defend his body, and he thinks that by smothering you and getting close, you can't hurt him. It has worked for him up until now, but PBF is heads and shoulders above anyone he's ever fought, including KZ (whom PBF would make look foolish, too).
I've only seen 8 of Ricky's fights, but that's enough for me to have a very good idea of his style and what he's capable of. I think Junior Witter would have a very good chance at beating him and Witter is only half as good as PBF is.
wow ur red. and i havent even hit u with red karma yet. shows that not many ppl like you on this site. u bum
And I still don't give a fuck. In case you haven't noticed, its usually dumbasses like you that actually do the whole Karma thing. Its not that serious.
why do you bother coming into the NSB section of this site. your clearly a highschool little bitch that hasnt come out of puberty yet. go get a life and get off this site.
Dude, you realize you sound like little kid too right? Can we try to keep this site for boxing discussion and not for calling people that you'll never meet names. Its really not that tough if you think about it. And by the way, Hatton stands no chance against any top-tier fighters.
The problem is, Juicy, not what your saying, but your reasonings behind it.
If you were to say that Hatton would beat Floyd by smothering him, pounding him to the body and constantly keeping the pace up, I can at least see your point, although I would still disagree with you. (Others would agree)
That being said, if Hatton tried to use his jab, his footwoork and countering, he would get eaten up and easily defeated by Floyd. He would be fighting Floyds fight, a fight he cannot win.
Not true, IMO.
Hatton balloons up to a max of 180 in between fights, and had to fight for his life to stay at 140. He moved up to 147 and made the weight easily. He then realized his future is at 140 and decided to buckle down and make sacrifices in order to maintain his career.
Not true..
I think its crazy how fat Hatton looks at 185...he looks like a person who is 250lbs of pudge...maybe it is because he has a small frame that he looks so fat...I have seen pics of Tszyu when he weighs in the 180's and he doesn't look like what Hatton does. Hatton should still try not to go over 165lbs
I am not sure I ever heard Hatton had trouble making 140lbs...he does have to diet, but he is able to burn fat off real quick...Hatton is one of those hyperactive kids, and people like this when active can get ripped pretty dam fast

Didn't Mayweather talk about Gatti being a C-level fighter?
Yep, however the difference is that no one here claims that Gatti was PBF's best opponent just PBF's most publicly known opponent.
Tzu is claimed as Hattons best win.
See the difference?
He won't lose if he stays at 140.
And where have I used his lack of discipline as an excuse?
Ricky makes himself drink - he's a genuine guy. He's only ever really been in boxing to entertain fans first and foremost, and never expected to still be in boxing by '05.
Please, if you actually believe that he didn't expect to be boxing for more than 5 years, you need to take your head out of your ass. that's utter bullshit and you know it.
Mayweather will box around him at 140 or 147.
Using the fact that he is very undisciplined as an excuse is as weak as it gets. So, when Ricky loses, it's not his fault, but the fact he puts on a ton of weight in between....who makes Ricky drink?

He had trouble keeping weight on during the Tszyu camp according to Kerry Kayes, his nutritionist and conditionist.
It was a 12-week camp and he was training harder than ever, dieting stricter than ever. FWIW.

I've heard he gets pretty heavy, which I believe. But I HIGHLY doubt that he had trouble getting UP to a good weight. I believe I saw a video of him before one of his fights about how hard he has to train to get down to 140. Maybe you're joking when you say he had trouble getting up to 140 and 147, but I can't take you seriously if you're not.

I'm telling you that he weighed 210 in Jan '05. He was almost unrecognisable. He doesn't usually go up that high though, usually only 180-190.
He didn't train at all until 8-10 weeks before fights, so obviously it's all fat.

That is very sad if it's true. I'm 6'1" and was weighing around 210 a few months ago. I have a large frame and still felt overweight. For Hatton to be 5'7 and weighing that much shows how little discipline he must have. I really don't believe it for a second that a guy going up to 210 lets 7 pounds of muscle slow him down. Are you telling me that he puts on 70 pounds of fat between fights? Then sheds it so easily that he has trouble keeping weight on? Its a medical miracle.

Dude, Hatton weighed 210 in Jan '05. Losing fat is easy.
Kayes had just five or six weeks to put 7lbs of muscle onto Hatton's frame, that's what they focussed on before the fight. And Bodybuilding slows you down, in Hatton's case it didn't just slow him down but turned him into a some kind of slug.

Quite pathetic that 7 pounds when he comes down from 180 to hit 140 that he would have trouble getting to 147. He had already been training, and sorry but 7 pounds of muscle isn't going to make someone go from superstar to six rounder.

Yeah, obviously. It was quite pathetic, but amazing at the same time that he somehow managed to win!
