TAYLOR-WRIGHT II FALLING APART FASTER THAN IT SEEMED TO BE COMING TOGETHER!

WINKY TO TAYLOR: 50-50 or no fight!
Over the past couple of days there has been a buzz throughout the boxing world about the Jermain Taylor-Winky Wright rematch taking place later this year on HBO PPV. After both Taylor and Wright came on the record making it clear that they want the fight, the business reps for both fighters opened discussions to see if an agreeement could be reached. Offers were made to Wright, which the former junior middleweight king is unwilling to accept. Although Wright is being offered nearly two million dollars more than he was guaranteed for the first Taylor fight, the Winkster says, "there's no way the fight is happening unless it's 50-50. I took the 55-45 split for the first fight just to prove that I'm the best middleweight out there. I don't think fans should blame Jermain but the people behind him need to come up with a 50-50 offer otherwise there's not going to be a fight! This isn't about how much more I'm making for this fight, this is about me getting treated fairly. I've been taking shorts my whole career and now that I've proven myself they got to do right by me." With the Taylor fight seeming far less likely than it did after yesterday's discussion, ********** asked Wright who he would be fighting on HBO World Championship and according to the pride of St. Pete's, Ike Quartey appears to be the frontrunner as this goes to print. When informed of Wright's comments, Taylor promoter Lou DiBella told **********, "I say this with love, he ain't never fighting Jermain unless he leaves planet Winky to return to planet earth." Taylor advisor Ozell Nelson and Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who is currently out of the country, were unavailable for immediate comment. Remember where you heard it first! (6:26 PM EST)
Winky's bitching this one up.
He doesn't deserve a 50/50 cut because his ass can't sell shit. He may be a bit good but Taylor is the draw of the match.
And Taylor's people are right. Winky should go out of winky planet.
fuck everybody who think wink should take 45% he deserves a even split jermain is not oscar they both need each other for a big pay day, like this would be. anybody who knows about boxing know wink will take on anybody. fuck lou debilla wink should take on somebody off the street like these socall big fighters do. they did the same shit to hopkins low balling him this is about princeible. Im with wink on this just bcause jim lampley & larry merchant is up jermains ass and lou worked for HBO does not mean he gets 55%. He is only a draw in fucking ARKANSAS.IM sick of this. ROY use to play games like this. fighters should do right by oneanother they do not work for promoters , promoters work for them. wink did eveything they ask for last fight and got robbed.treat the man with more respect he deserves it
Sorry dude, but its a business. Winky should be thrilled to be getting 45%. Don't know if you noticed, but there seems to be a common trend with Winky getting offered a lot less than other big-name fighters. Nobody wants to pay to see him fight unless its against a top-level fighter. He needs the big name guys to make his money.

Sorry, forgot to 'quote'. That was an agreement with Gunstar1. Credit Dude. BTW I thought Winky won the last fight (in a squeeker) but hey, that's boxing. I like Winky but he's gotta suck it up and take what's his.
I tend to disagree with you often but you have a very solid point here. If you aren't the one with the belts, take the offer, take the belts then offer exhorbitant percentages back.
Suck up a meagre couple o' million (poor baby) then win the belts, then only offer 75/25 for all I care. You hold the belts, you make the money.
man, if this ends up being all legit, and it's at the Mandalay.. anyone going? i know i am.. especially after being there for the 1st fight.. gotta have closure :D
winky is bringing the ball back in his court very good to see.this guy deserves a big win against Taylor to catipulte him even more so then when he fought Trinidad.Wright beats Taylor the second time hes the best fighter in the world in my opinion.
Both Hopkins and Taylor missed most of their punches, Hopkins missed most of his punches too. Taylor controlled the first 8 rounds, it was very simple to score.
That seems to be the never ending argument, isn't it?
Your wrong dude. Taylor is HBO's baby and he fulls up the house. They always have him fighting close to home & he's gotten alot of press for the Hopkins fights. He can make way more money then Winky.
Winky beat Mosley & Tito but most fans dont really care much for him. He's got to change up his style. He dominated Tito but he did it in a way that was boring. Hopkins dominated Tito and it felt exciting. Thats why Winky is always on the short end of the money. Its strange because his style should be exciting because he comes forward all night and walks guys down but the problem is his main punch is a jab, he doesnt ever load up on power shots, and he's not flashy like a Mayweather.
Ill give you the perfect comparison to Winky Wright. Winky=The Detroit Pistons. Everyone knows there great but there boring. Even this year when they switched up and started scoring alot of points, they still felt more boring then everyone else. Its the same with Winky and thats why he wont sell. Just like the Pistons having to play playoff games on NBA TV despite being the best team. Other teams who were much lesser then them got the prime time games because they were more exciting
a fair argument, but you find me one "Casual, i watch de la hoya, roy jones, etc, boxing fan" (that doesn't live in Little Rock) and ask him if he knows Jermain Taylor over Winky Wright... 9 times out of 10, he won't know EITHER...
people have to understand that the name Jemain Taylor is still not established to the casual boxing public like the ones i listed earlier, he hasn't made a big enough empression to those that watch casually.. of course, he's a huge name to us "hardcore" fans though.. not trying to say Wright has many more fans or anything though
Both Hopkins and Taylor missed most of their punches, Hopkins missed most of his punches too. Taylor controlled the first 8 rounds, it was very simple to score.
we'll just have to agree to disagree on this cause we could go on forever.
I've watched this fight about 5 times, everytime I score it the same way, I can't give Hopkins more then 3 rounds, I had one round even, at the most I can see is someone giving 2 even rounds. How can you win a fight with last 3 rounds, it just don't work like that.
Most people thought Taylor won the fight, but Hopkins bitching helped him a little in the polls, it just made it closer.
BTW Larry Merchant is an idiot, I rarely agree with him, but he's fun to listen to.
Can you honestly tell me that he was landing cleanly against Hopkins? I didn't see that but I went back & saw the exchanges in slow-motion, maybe you didn't. My opinion is simple this; Taylor was the agressive, Hopkins was effective, I think Hopkins won the fight.
Edit; also I don't think Merchant is an idiot, he does tend to have some good insight, he's just old and few exchanges behind everybody else, also I think he's not too far from being senile
THis fight should be 60/40 for Taylor...He is the champ. I like Wink, but he dont make the best business decisions. He should be very happy with 55/45 as the challenger. I think his head is getting a lil too big. When he is the champ...He will be almost impossible to deal with. Like Lou said...Come down off of planet Winky.
This is not true, Taylor won the polls. Taylor clearly won that fight, Hopkins won only the last 3 rounds, 1 round even, and Taylor won the other 8 rounds.
The first fight was not even a close fight, the second fight was close but still Hopkins lost 7 rounds in the second fight.
Lets not forget Hopkins was bitching and he brainwashed many fans after the first fight.
Once again I have to state this, he was agressive but not effectively aggressive, I've seen the first fight a few times & those flurries from Taylor hit mostly air & shoulder, just because it didn't seem that B-Hop was working his ass of in that fight doesn't mean he was being the more effective puncher in the fight, I honestly don't think he lost the first 8 rounds in that fight, I think that the commentators did about as much brainwashing as Hopkins, you only say Taylor won the first 8 rounds cause that's exactly what Merchant said
Dominate a p4p fighter? lol when was the last time hopkins ever got dominated? since roy jones in 93? lol. Hopkins style is very hard for anyfighter to dominate him.
Well to be considered a p4p fighter, you'd think he'd be able to look good against one, I know B-Hop & Winky are great defensive fighters, but the only fight that really impressed me was against Wright. Sorry I didn't mean he has to dominate a p4p fighter, I mean he needs to dominate someone so that the masses could be impressed, I can see the potential that Taylor has, but I'm sure the general public cannot. I just think that based on the last fight & on the fact that Wright is a p4p great fighter & about as big a draw a Taylor so I think he deserves 50/50, like I said just my opinion. Personally I probably wouldn't order a ppv with Wright or Taylor against someone else, but I would order the rematch.
Most people think he was given the first Hopkins fight(including myself),& the jab barely won him the second fight, plus in none of those fights did he impress the masses, I have respect for him, he & Wright currently hold my #2 p4p fighter spot until this rematch happens, but he still hasn't proved to me that he can dominate a p4p fighter, I think that they both fought their hearts out the last time around & it was a very entertaining fight IMHO, so I see no reason why they shouldn't get 50/50, but that's just my opinion.
And btw, most ppl also thought taylor won the hopkins fight twice. Its dead even if you ask me of who ppl think won in the taylor vs hopkins fight.

Nope i disagree. Taylor is still the man at 160 pounds and he's the champion, as the champion taylor 55-44 in his favor. Taylor already as more fan base then winky. Winky style is still boring. But like i said some ppl feel winky deserves the decision, some ppl feel taylor deserves the decision, most feel the draw was the right call. Taylor is the man and got the title to show it. Taylor beat the man in hopkins twice while hopkins was the number 1 p4p. Tito wasn't number 1 p4p when winky beat him. Mosley wasn't number 1 p4p when winky beat him. Hopkins was and taylor beat him twice.

yeah but that's only because Taylor's career has been nurtured to be what it is, Wright worked hard to be considered one of the best p4p fighters in the world, I think based on their last fight they should split it 50/50. :boxing:

Winky, and I like Winky, needs to take this fight. Too many people miss out on paydays because of this pride bullshit. I look at it as 45% of a major payday is still 45% of a major payday and if you win, that's just icing on the cake and can lead to more money. Less than half of a multimillion dollar purse is still money that you didn't have before that fight so just take it and use the opportunity to win the belt. Especially there aren't many paydays like that one, so just take the fight.
