I've seen Peter - Toney twice. My scorecard was 116:111 in favor of Samuel Peter. In my opinion Peter's best rounds were the third and tenth. I scored the third round as a 10 : 8 round because Toney hold on the ropes, otherwise he probably would have gone down, plus holding on the ropes is not allowed, if I am informed correctly.
There were a lot (like four or five) close rounds, which is why the scores vary, in my opinion. But Toney was not robbed, he lost the bout but put on a very good performance.
One thing I noticed is that Peter was not trying to knock Toney out really (except for two or three moments), he was more concerned about winning rounds by landing something rather than huge bombs. Peter is underrated by many, he can box and brawl, believe it or not.
No I don't agree. I'm in the you gotta knock a guy down to get a 10-8 round camp.
And throughout the night Toney was taking steps back and kinda overreacted to Peter's punches. He would take a punch and kinda fade back. I think this influenced the judges. They didn't realize he was playing possom.
So boxing has reached such a low point that irrational fans score 10-8 rounds without knockdowns now? Get over it, Peter fans. You're just reaching at this point because you were completely wrong about your predictions on this one, and Toney easily won the fight.
If you score that round 10-8 then you should've scored every round in the PBF-Gatti fight as a 10-8. Also, the round where Judah was hurt by Baldi, by that argument, should be 10-8. How about round 12 between Hatton and Collazo? The fact is, they weren't. They were normal 10-9 rounds.
A 10-8 round, a rarity if there is not a knock down, should only be given if one fighter either refuses to engage in the fight, or if he's so thuroughly dominated that it's a miracle he didn't go down.
Toney holds on to the ropes, not to keep himself up, but to rest. He's out of shape and if you watch any other fight you'll see him do the same thing when he's not hurt. Yes, it's illegal, but it shouldn't cost a point if the ref doesn't deem it so. Toney was very respondent, too, as he removed his hand the second the ref told him to. You can't do that if you're out on your feet.
word
He was hurt, but Toney actually dodged most of the punches after that. Not even close to a 10-8 imo. If you want to give him a 10-8 in that round then you have to give Toney a 10-8 for round 6 in which he wobbled Peter with a left hook and landed some great body shots.
Thanks for replying to my post.
Do you think Toney would not have gone down, had he not been on the ropes?
no he only had his hand extended. I dont think that would have prevented him from going down if he was seriously hurt. If peter could have landed 1 or 2 more of those big overhand rights Toney probably would have ate the canvas but peter let him get his wits back.

That's incorrect. There may be 10:8 rounds for other reasons like extreme dominance for instance.
or if a point is deducted etc. But none of those scenarios took place.
Credit to Peter for landing that bomb to the side of Toney's head, and yes Toney was hurt by it, but c'mon...one punch gets you a 10-8 round?
If anything, what Peter did (or more precisely didn't do) after that punch, specifically not jumping on the opportunity to inflict more damage, would negate any suggestion of a 10-8 round.
This is exactly the question I want answered by those that scoff at the notion that Toney was seriously hurt. Funny that almost anyone I talked to who was there live admitted Toney was very hurt and his knees knuckled with that punch. He held on to the rope because he was about to go down.
Toney is good at hiding when he's hurt but it's not impossible to tell if you look carefully. This was one of those moments.
Exactly my thoughts. Thank you.

10:8 means someone hit the floor or took a knee. That did not happen.

Watching the fight,I didnt think for a second toney was in danger of going down.If anything holding to the ropes only hurt him,he was standing stationary right in front of peter.
Okay, but why should somebody as experienced as Toney hold on the ropes, if not for being seriously hurt?
Thanks for replying to my post.

hahahaha... actually i take that back. That comment was so dumb it's not even funny!!!
Thanks for showing respect towards me and posting a message which probably has been posted a billion times already. How creative and clever.
No I dont agree with you. Toney was dazed but peter couldnt do anything to finish him. Which means Toney was slipping and ducking punches with one arm. Now if Sam would have finished the Job and landed something else but one punch then maybe he gets a 10-8 round.
