I just found out that Corrie Sanders was ranked #1 by the WBA IN 1996 and he was supposed to fight Tyson and Don King with his evil ways put a stop to it and made the Tyson vs Holyfield match instead. Don King thought a fight against Holyfield would be easier for Tyson because Tyson's camp was afraid of facing Sanders. This just prove's that Tyson was far from the baddest man on the planet. This just prove's that the WBA is just as corrupt as the other alphabet belts because the WBA stripped Foreman right after Foreman won the WBA and IBF belts because Foreman would not face Tony Tucker who was ranked #1 by the WBA but they did not strip Tyson of the belt because Don King shoved money down their throats.
uhh if the wlad fight never happened nobody would give 2 shits about sanders ...lets not try to say the what coulda beens just based on one fight ..k guys?
to most casual boxing fans but not the ones that closely follow the heavyweight division. I always knew of his hand speed and punching power

If Sanders cared about his boxing career. He would have hired a real trainer to train him not that little weasel he had in his corner. I can just picture a Teddy Atlas or Manny Steward training him. The guy would have been a monster.
Wlad had the misfortune to encounter him one of the very few times in his latter career that he bothered to get himself into top shape.
I still cannot believe the way he showed up in the ring to face Vitali, the biggest fight of his life, fat and out of shape.
this is something that people who hate on wlad absolutely refuse to acknowledge. in fact most of them make it out as if the sanders who beat wlad was actually fatter and more out of shape than the sanders who fought vitali
Corrie Sanders was not much of a sparrer. He sparred but not that much. This is why he was a 5 round fighter. The guy had terrible in ring stamina due to his lack of boxing conditioning. He was athletic and ran a ton of miles in his native South Africa however that does not always apply to boxing condition.
Tyson would destroy sanders during that time, Holyfield only won because he boxed beautifully while tyson just kept throwing one huge haymaker at a time. No way in hell Sanders could outbox Tyson like holyfield did, he just isn't good enough technically.
he would have smeared the tyson that holyfield beat. tyson had absolutely no defense and sanders throws those accurate quick combos from the southpaw stance it would have befuddled tyson and made him quit if it didnt knock him out first
If Sanders trained well and fought Tyson. Sanders would have destroyed Tyson worse than Holyfield did in their first fight. With the exception of Sanders loss to Nate Tubbs where he was stopped cold early on in their fight, Sanders was able to take punches well. Rahman hit him with bombs and Sanders stood there taking them, the same against Vitali. Sanders was a poor conditioned boxer that is why once he got past the 5th round he would be exhausted.
the holyfield bout meant more $$$$$$$. their second match still holds the ppv record doesn't it?
I understand that it meant more money. My point is that the WBA failed to obide by their own rules about stripping one fighter of the belt (Foreman) and not stripping Tyson of the belt when he failed to fight someone who was ranked by those assholes (WBA) themselves.
No way in hell would Sanders not train for Tyson. That would have been the chance of a lifetime, and you could be sure he'd be in the best shape of his career. He didn't train for Rahman, but don't forget that at the time Rahman wasn't exactly highly touted. He had already been KO'ed by Maskaev and stopped by Tua. I'm almost 100% positive that Sanders expected to blow Rahman out of the ring in a few rounds.
This is a younger Sanders were talking about, not an older one who was set financially and just didn't care vs. Vitali Klitschko.
I agree though, if somehow Sanders didn't take Tyson seriously, he'd be in a world of trouble.
Sanders would have really messed Tyson up at that period of his career. Too much power, speed, and a southpaw stance that would have given a slower Tyson a lot of trouble.
if he was in shape. if he went into the ring with tyson without training a lick like he did with rahman tyson would have got him out of there first
