Toney had a draw with Rahman, then a controversial lost to Peters. The performance he gave against Peters was impressive. Most critics, reporters, and fans believed Toney should have gotten the decision.
But who should Toney fight next?
Should he face another top 10 fighter or just go straight for a world title against any of the Eastern European champs?
How would he do against?
-Maskaev
-Valuev
-Klitscko
-Liakhovich
Great comparison Beez. He's like a bigger, stronger, more explosive punching Jirov.
Austin won that fight because he made extraordinary use of his height advantage. That guy doesn't look like much but he's good at staying out of range and then nailing a smaller guy with a counter when they try to get in. Unlike many fighters, Austin knows how to make adjustments. I would be wary about betting against Ray Austin in the future. You know I wouldn't be surprised if he UD'ed a champion like Sam Peter either. Actually the fight he should try to get is with James Toney, as I think it's a winnable fight for him due to his huge reach and Toney's small size.
I would probably bet real money on Austin vs. Toney just because he'd be an underdog, but a very live one.
yupper. austin is as teddy atlas likes to use "awckwardly clever". that alone will make him difficult for a lot of guys
oh no i mean peter, after he got embarrassed by toney suddenly he's not the hardest hitting hw anymore
how did toney embarrass peter? I dont recall peter being wobbled or dominated? and he did win a close fight. ???
you know the way boxing has been going lately, guys that have been losing have been getting the fights that they have desired before losing. just like zab and floyd, zab lost and that fight still went down.
and with the way toney fought and the credit he has been getting for his performance from other fighters, trainers, and people who actually know boxing be it press or what not, toney might slip into a title shot even with the loss. especially the way a lot of fighters like to take what they think are the easy fights, nowadays. but you have to think, any heavyweight champ would love to fight toney, i think the money is there, and there is prestige in fighting a future first ballot hall of famer. toney is smaller and durable fighter, so it would add a bit of creiblity to who ever fights him. it's not like toney lost his last fight, he was snubbed by the system.
like i said with the way boxing is and the state of the heavyweight division, toney could find himself in the mix for a shot at the title. wheher or not YOU think he's worthy, he could still get a shot by any of the belt holders now. i wouldn't be surprised if he landed a fight with maskaev before peter got a chance to fight him, and peter is the mandatory. stranger things have happend in boxing politics..........history has shown us that.
Ah okay. I disagree with these people. I think he is the hardest puncher in the world, and Toney took some good bombs (thought not his hardest) in that fight and never went down. Toney really has one of the best chins ever.
Are you talking about Toney? Who the hell ever said Toney was a hard hitter at HW, let alone the hardest?

some people will hate me and please don't think I don't respect Toney or am not a fan because I am I have liked Toney for many, many years.I think though at this point he should either re-match Jirov or Holyfield or something like that to get paid.....hell it would even be funny to see if he could take Tysons bombs at this point.Any which way you cut it he is not going to be HW champ and even if he was how boring would that be?Toney has had a great career and has amazed many with his skill, chin and heart but fuck it man either take a few quick cash fights or retire IMO. :boxing:
i can't believe what i'm seeing, "valuev beating toney" , come on people get serious. valuev is way too slow for james counterpunching. and before the peter fight, everybody was talking about how he was the hardest hitting heavyweight and now people are saying that he doesn't hit as hard as any of the russian champions

I'm not so sure Toney would beat Ibragimov, who is for one thing actually bigger than him (6'2" to 5'9"), and also very quick, strong, and skilled offensively.
I think Toney is better off trying to get a fight with a guy like Brock, Brewster (as long as he realizes he won't be able to stop Brewster and to try would be a waste of energy) or a rematch with Rahman.
I also dont think toney would beat ibrag. ibrag looked awful against austin(partly due to being over weight) and toney is obviously way above austin but styles make fights and he wont have that big height and reach disadvantage he had against austin and toney shouldnt be able to hurt him. toney did struggle with southpaw jirov who's style resembles ibrags only ibrag is a much bigger stronger harder hitting jirov. If I was a betting man I'd favor ibrag over toney espescially if he comes in better shape than his last fight

Toney should fight someone like Sultan Ibragimov, a fighter who is smaller than him and he can look good against and possibly KO.
Toney gets good name recognition by beating Ibragimov and looks good doing too.
The other champions are now going to avoid Toney because he has shitty stamina, horrible balance and even Peter, who isn't known for his straight punching, was able to control him at times with his jab?
I would favor Valuev over Toney at this point.
as far as the 4 champions, he could probably only outpoint the slow and cumberson Valuev. besides him, its clear from the ruling in the peter fight that the power and relative accuracy of the other 3 will prove too much for him.
If anything good comes out of this bullshit decision, I hope that it's Toney deciding to get real serious about training and gets into shape so there would be no way to rob him again, I say fuck Peters and go for a shot at a HW belt, then retire.
