After fights like Toney vs Peter and Ben Rabah vs Urango i'm sick of going on to boxing websites only to read how a boxer lost "close controversial decision". These weren't "close controversial decisions", they were fucking robberies. In a way they are encouraging these bs decisions by not informing the public of how fucked up they really were. Boxing websites and writers need to quit their fucking fence sitting and tell it like it is.
Trash talking is part of boxing, I'm surprised to even hear this from a boxing fan, I can see someone who is not a boxing fan getting upset over trash talking, but not a person who posts in a boxing forum.
I know that.
But if you are a reporter and you asked some question and then a guy looks at you and say f@ck you. would you really wanna support him.
I usally a case of give me something i will give you something. You scratch my back and I will scratch your and Toney does no how to play this game with reporters. If someone ask about your wieght you could alway lie. try a fake smile here and there but you dont have to insult every reporter and interviewer you pass by and that could give you little exposer and help from them.
I know part of boxing is trash talk but saying something that there is a good white HW champ is another thing. There is limits and a line to be put. any all the HW are from former USSR and that is enought to piss off Toney when he said that in the begin of the year.
The people who voted yes to that poll did not all say it was a landslide; many thought Toney won by a round or two. The fight was close to anyone but those riding Toney's jock.
The problem is, the respected writers who know boxing realize it was a close fight that could have gone either way and that it's not worth crying about.
Only the Toney cheerleading squad are losing sleep over this decision.
It wasn't close at all. you were completely wrong. look at ANY poll for this fight. it's a landslide for Toney.
I agree completely. How can you look at fights like Ben Rabah vs. Urango (the biggest robbery I've ever seen) and Toney vs. Peter objectively. Call it like it is...ROBBERY. Showtime doesn't even call it right, they kept saying it was close and shit. BULLSHIT. Call it like it is.
If a guy keeps insults his interviewer i think nobody wants to support him.
In may opponent if Toney want people to support him he should repsect them more.
robbery or no robbery he deserve it.
If you anger some people they are going to earse you and i dont wanna a guy who alway insults his opponent and the sport that a love.
I Hope someone will KO him some day.
I do believe that it is a responsibility of the media to mediate the sports qualms, as they are of concern to the general public. Writers have the task of parlaying and interpreting the info that we receive to the people, and that influences perception. Without boxing, there are no boxing writers. We have to help preserve our sport.
For my article on the Quartey-Forrest travesty, I recommended that Ron Scott Stevens, the commendable commissioner of the New York State Athletic Commission, that he bring those three judges into his office Monday morning and review the tapes with those judges. It works, as he is a very progressive guy with boxing reform. One of my stablemates Abe Torres fought on the undercard of the Vinny Maddalone fight in mid August, and was outright robbed on national tv. Our trainer went berzerk and started to bitterly complain to Stevens. He told us to file a grievance and not attack the judges for their botchery. He deals with these situations seriously, but I'm not familiar with CA officials.
the only word for it is corrupt, they should have a longer time after the fights finished for more analists or whatever to look at the scoresheets n aload of other ppl to really make sure the decision is gonna be right and not biased or jus completely wrong
Lets not forget it wasn't so much the decision itself, but the margin the judges had it at, it's still gross incompetence, whatever way you look at it.
Yeah, that is true, but still it's not like their gonna change a fight caus e people on the internet don't agree with the decision.. or else a lot of decisions would have been reversed by now :)
true, they should listen, atleast they know what we think

this is a pretty well known boxin website,i rekon quite a few ppl high up in the sport like fighters, premoters, managers, trainers, would come and view the site to see wot the boxin fan thinks of fights, decisions, fighters
What can websites/Writers do about it? It's not up to boxing fans to save the sports, its up to the promoters to get better fights, boxers to quit "ducking" each and state boxing commissions to clean up their acts and get unbiased judges, when all of these are met boxing will get more popular, till then it will stay at the level it is now, a semi-popular sport clinging to its past.
