Bro, just wanted to give you a tip of the hat as I eat a slice of crow with my humble pie. James looked a hell of a lot better than I thought he would; and I'm man enough to admit it. I underestimated Toney and overrated Peter.
Same sentiment to ALL who picked Toney to win a decision and argued that there was no way crude Peter would stop James.
On a personal note, I would like to thank both fighters for inspiring me to write my own ballet......"Dance of the Fat Alberts".
Anybody got Cosby's number? ;)
Props Diego, seriously...even though Toney didn't get the decision. You were more right than I was by far.
Peace.
I was impressed by Toney as well. Full credit to him for the fight and his choice to fight it. Please bear in mind that an opposing opinion is not always disrespect. Noone with any sense or boxing insight could dismiss Toney but to feel a fighter is not in his prime is not to give disrespect. Age visits us all and a great like Toney is not diminished by his later career.
I give credit to Peter too for raising his game just a little. Despite predicting a win for him I was not eager for it and thought it would be an ugly hussle knockdown. He fought better than I thought he would too. The fight itself was good and was let down by bizarre scoring.
I rewatched the fight last night and had it very borderline. Peter connected with Toney far more than I would have thought. He also hurt Toney far less than suspected.
Weirdly I think this result will keep Toney hungrier and around for longer than otherwize. A bit of righteous indignation might give him another boost.
Toney won the fight and anybody who knows boxing knew it would go that way. That's all I'm gonna say.
Uh-huh.
Well, here's a thought for you: Hank Kaplan and several other real "experts" picked Peter to win by a "k.o.".....and Kaplan has forgotten more about boxing than you or I are ever likely to know. Just something for you to think about, kid.
I was wrong, and admitted such...but I am not in bad company at all....and that's all I'm going to say about that.
My final tally was 115-114 for Toney; but there were three rounds I scored even, one because of the point deduction, which could honestly have gone to Toney. However, the scores that gave Peter the decision were an abomination. No Way did Peter win 116-111...no way in hell. I can see a couple of scenarios where Peter might have edged it out; but NOT on my card.
Toney won the fight....I said it. He is indeed the reincarnation of the "Old Mongoose".....and Peter's got a hell of a lot more to learn about boxing....and both need to visit Jenny Craig...like, BAD.
I have respect for anyone who admits they were wrong, but I really want apologies from RunWithKnives and Kid Achilles, who probably both scored it for Toney.
