i feel like there's a fair amount of parrallels between toney's fight with peter and the ali foreman matchup way back when. is this a completely ridiculous thing to think? i'm not assuming toney to win or really making a prediction at all- i'm just wondering if anyone else has had this thought if even for a fleeting second.

I did think this for a fleeting second, but only b/c I was trying to imagine Toney knocking Peter out. It is a hard thing to imagine, like Ali knocking Foreman out.

Minus the fact that most experts are predicting Toney to win, and that Toney never struggled with a guy Peter embarassed, you kind of have a point.

Style wise suggests a very near comparison.
Peter the big King Kong heavy handed puncher vs Toney the smaller trash talking superior boxer.

yes it is.to each their own though. i just dont see the comparison
The difference is, Ali was a very strong natural heavyweight who was able to tie Foreman up in the clinches and hold him behind the head. If Ali was a 5'9" former middleweight, with the same exact level of skill and athleticism he had on that night, he wouldn't have lasted 5 rounds IMO.
i was also thinking in terms of where they are with their careers/age etc. i mean, upon 2nd and 3rd thoughts its not all that close i guess cos sam isnt undefeated like foreman was. but styles and age difference are exact. if toney knocked peter out the way ali knocked foreman out (totally unexpectedly) i could see people reacting to it like rumble. i dunno tho

Actually, this is a very good comparison. Personally, I don't think Toney's up to it; but I have been wrong before. The comparison is accurate to a certain degree: crude slugger vs skilled technician.
ali-foreman? well, before that fight, ali was once the undisputed champ and foreman was the current undisputed champ. we haven't even had an undisputed champion in this divison for a couple of years. other then that, i guess i can see some comparisons.
i could even see the fight playing out like that.
toney might feel peters power early, and cover up with his great defense against the ropes while trying to counter off of them, while the powerful peter rips shots off toneys guard. thats not really toneys style but if peter puts enough pressure on him then i could see it.
