I think boxing is harder. You have to use your hands and arms. You have to worry about getting knocked out. In MMA, men slap and kick each other. I think those are bitch moves to slap and kick another man. In MMA you lose by having another man sit on top of you and wrap his legs around you and pull your arm. That shit seems gay to me. In boxing you fight like a man, with your arms and fists. You knock the shit out of your opponent for 12 rounds or knock him out in less. What do you guys think?
Boxing > MMA :boxing:
I live in Austin,Tx. Sadly I won't be there. If you come back talking about how you schooled everyone, I expect to see tape. Like I said earlier, I train and RESPECT both sports. No one hits harder than a boxer, but being on the ground with a good grappler is not fun either.

I do recommend you go in there and say you wanna check it out. I do not recommend you say it's for ***s, doesn't work, etc.
I side with boxing, but probably more out of bias than anything else. MMA has its place, and it is growing quickly.
However, what is the deal with Shamrock and Ortiz fighting AGAIN?!? A THIRD FIGHT? Ortiz kills him TWICE, two quick KOs, and there will be a third fight? Yikes! What will the line in Vegas be, Tito -1000?
boxing... getting punched in the face for 12 rounds nothing can be worst than that in MMA there are no knock downs, while in mma any time a fighter gets knocked down the fight is kinda over in boxing the fighter can stand up and come get some more till the ref steps in
Dangerous/Better/Harder.
Which is more dangerous? Boxing.
Which is better? Boxing.
Which is harder? MMA.
In years to come, if UFC/Pride continue to get larger then eventually you'll see even better athletes competing. As it is now, the big money is still in Boxing so athletes who have a choice between the two would lean towards boxing if they showed promise.
Get started then bro. If it only takes you 2 years to be UFC champ, I bet in 6 months you could stomp anyone in a local mma show. Put your money where your mouth is.
What part of NYC you at? Plenty of good bjj places up there. Renzo Gracie is there. Stop in one day, it will be an eye opener.
I think if I practice for a year or 2, I have good chance to become a champion in MMA or UFC.
That is one of the dumbest things ever said on this board. I DARE you to enter a local mma show. It is ALOT harder than it looks.
One of the reasons mma guys boxing looks so 'bad' is that you cannot 'sit down' on your punches. Doing so is begging to be taken down or leg kicked. They are two different sports, dissing one or the other is stupid. Any mma guy who disses boxing should go into a boxing gym and spar a few rounds. A boxing guy who disses mma should go into a bjj academy and 'roll' a few rounds. They are both TOUGH sports.
I remember watching the ultimate fighter and seeing plenty of guys who would just strike. Compared to boxers they looked awful. The only benefit they have is they know how to defend kicks and take downs, while throwing in a kick or knee themself every once in a while. Thats only a select group of MMAers I have seen though. I think if you teach someone like a Sam Peter how to defend kicks and take downs then he would do damage. Even Tank Abbott had wins in MMA and he was a straight up street fighter, no skills at all.
That guy Liddell wins most of his fights with his fists I believe, put Liddell in a real boxing match he will get KTFO pretty fast against C level fighter.
I don't care if people are into MMA or UFC, but I hate comparing the sports with boxing.
A big strong guy can become great in MMA or UFC within 1 or 2 years, boxings takes years of practice to become good in.
I saw the huge black guy from MMA that was calling out Tyson, he was almost TKFO in that fight, if a guy like Tyson lands one perfect punch on that big black dude, it will be goodnight.
I think if I practice for a year or 2, I have good chance to become a champion in MMA or UFC.
Well said.
Boxing is rougher on the body, hands down. About mma gloves causing more injuries: they do allow more injuries, but they are 'light' stuff like cuts and broken noses. The heavier boxing gloves allow for way more concussive trauma.
While both athletes are in great shape, it is HARD to breathe when underneath a good grappler. No amount of running, tradmills, jumping rope will prepare you for that.
All in all, if I had to pick the 'tougher' athletes, I would say boxers though.
Dangerous: I would go with boxing because theres more of a chance of death or brain injury. There is a chance of that in MMA but its less, there is however more of a chance you can get a broken arm or something while grappling.
Harder: Both are equally hard. Boxers are experts at just boxing, thats all they do. MMAers have to be well rounded in several things so they have to be good at a bunch of different things.
Better. I personally like kickboxing, boxing, and then MMA but the more you understand the ground fighting the less gay it will seem and the more you will enjoy it.
in mma if u get cracked hard like 3 times without hittin back, thats the end of the match, and u can bullshit and paw for minutes on in without really throwing
Yeah.
And they're using 3 oz gloves as opposed to 10 or 12.

Yeah I wasn't fully aware before I voted.
Boxing is easily more dangerous.....and more deaths result from excessive trauma to the brain.
But as far as "Hard" I really don't know how you'd claim boxing is "Harder". MM artists are trained in submissions as well as striking. The application of moves and using leverage plus strength takes training and conditioning.
Boxing is "Better" in my opinion......and I'm more a fan of Boxing.
I was under the impression that you were referring to who'd beat who in a street fight.....like every other thread.
MMA cripples boxer every time.

Boxing has better athletes and a legitimate amateur system to determine who the top fighters are before turning professional rather than guys that fight in the MMA shows that are unregulated and they are unproven alot of the time before earning a legitmate contract in the UFC or Pride
Why are poeple saying that the punches in MMA have to be harder since the gloves are smaller? A professional boxer will hit MUCH harder than anyone who isnt, fuck the size of the glove.
There is NO WAY ANY MMA fighter hits nearly as hard as any boxer in the same weight. That's just total crap.
Your asking three questions at once. Dangerous, harder, and better are not nearly the same thing. Jumping off a cliff is more dangerous than both but it definately isn't harder or better.
Boxing is more dangerous than MMA. Just to make my explanation shorter and clearer, have you ever heard or seen any MMA fighter suffered a brain damaged? Well that is because in boxing the powerful repeatead blows on the head doesn't immediately show physical effects because of the gloves, unlike in MMA where it justifies immediate stoppage.
As to which is harder, it should definitely go with MMA. It is a combination of different combat sports, so fighters should be able to learn all these combat sports in order to compete.
Which is better? It depends on the individual's prefference.
I'm sure that many MMA fighters have sustained brain damage but due to lack of exposure compared to boxing, and because boxing is more widespread than MMA, you don't hear of brain injuries as much. I'm sure in the years to come as the UFC, Pride, and other MMA organizations gain more popularity, there will be cases of fighters sustaining brain injuries.
As for the damage itself, MMA punches have to be harder just because the fact that the gloves are smaller. Also, MMA fighters due sustain alot of a repeated blows to the head like boxing during some of the matches. I've watched UFC bouts where the fighters have received alot of punishment more brutal than your average boxing match.
Lastly, how can a sport where it is legal to hit your opponent when he's been knocked down be safer?
