#1) i would like to first say that this sport is very different from boxing. Some people who watch the UFC will realize they like the start, where they stand up and trade, best and will switch their attention towards boxing. THe majority will stay with and love the UFC
#2) This is actually a pretty good thing for boxing. IF the UFC poses a big threat towards boxing, boxing is gonna need to change a bit inorder to take the lead. All those changes are gonna be good and be geared to move the boxing in a positive direction.
IF anything, the rising popularity of the UFC will help both boxing and UFC. everyone needs to calm down, only good things will come from all of this
What criteria are you using to determine that the UFC is increasing in popularity? In terms of PPV numbers boxing outshines UFC by far. I personally think boxing will always attract more fans and money than the UFC.
The reality is that the UFC is trying to attract boxing fans by emphasizing more standup fighting. They have moved the fighters away from excessive grappling on the ground like it was during the early UFC days. Now there are time limits on the ground and anything perceived as stalling gets an immediate stand up. The average viewer of the UFC that doesn't have a background in judo or grappling sports will not be able to relate to two men wearing underwear rolling on the ground hugging each other. Sorry but it looks gay. Everyone can relate to boxing because it looks more natural and manly.
I agree totally.
But they should try straight fisticuffs in the Octagon.
Octagon with MMA gloves. No wrestling, grappling, or kicking. Just straight punching for 5 rounds. Thats gangsta
And also a slammers event. Rashad, Tito, and Matt...takedowns and slams for 5 rounds.
2 easy. I'm a genius.

ugly because of all the illegal moves and disgusting swelling and cuts. again, i think its entertaining, but it can be at times horrid to watch. boxing as well, but much more often in the UFC
all the moves in UFC are legal. Well I guess you meant illegal when it refers to boxing but elbows, knees to the head, rabbit punches, backhands are all legal in MMA. I even saw a guy foot stomping, lol. I think elbows to the back of the head are illegal though.
back in the beginning even groin punching was legal. There was a guy named Keith Hackney back in the early 90's who won a fight by 10-12 repeated nut shots. It was funny and sickening at the same time.
I agree with this post only because I recently went to a UFC event this past weekend. I myself am not much a UFC fan. I'd occasionally see it on tv and watch it for abit and then turn it off. It's terribly boring when they are on the ground humping each other. I already knew that on TV though watching it LIVE and when that happens, it's even more boring. The best part is when they stand and trade punches. Everyone in the audience went wild and those were without a doubt the best moments. The only moments on the ground are choking someone out which to me is lame as fuck. I hear people screaming, choke, choke, choke. I'm thinking, wtf? What's so entertaining seeing a guy just fall asleep with the other guy already lying ontop of him? Then the best moments of the night were when the guys got knocked out from trading punches. Everyone went wild and those were without a doubt the best fights. I'll always be with boxing because UFC doesn't float my boat at all. It's just a time filler for me if nothing is on and I'm terribly bored.
UFC is an ugly sport to watch?
Probably because you don't understand what's going on and you don't comprehend the subtle intricate moves each fighter makes to get in better position. It's actually a pretty cool thing to watch.

UFC can be real boring at times, and just plain homosexual with 2 dudes in nothin but tight shorts rollin around on top of each other round after round.
i couldn't of said it better, this is exactly why greco roman wrestling is not a professional sport. Who wants to watch two grown men roll around with their nuts in each others faces?

Boxing is more of a thinking sport with so much critical thinking.
I went and seen both but I gotta say Boxing beat MMA in entertinment you dont get guys like Gatti, Baldomire, Mayweather, Corrales..etc .
the UFC has guys like ortiz, sanchez, griffin, and bonnar. warriors exist in both sports.
What I don't understand is why people keep saying UFC will overtake boxing when UFC is nothing more than a gimp version of Pride. Pride is the real deal in terms of mma. put it this way, Pride is like the wbo, wba, and wbc.ufc is like the ibf.
i agree with your post tho
i agree. Pride is the real deal. UFC cant compete with PRIDE when it comes to skill.
I cant see the UFC taking over boxing. If anything it will be just as popular. UFC 61 was a disaster. The storylines in UFC are getting really old.

I went and seen both but I gotta say Boxing beat MMA in entertinment you dont get guys like Gatti, Baldomire, Mayweather, Corrales..etc that give something exciting and some have a good stroy behind them like Ouma and Miranda.
If there is 1 world champ belts and these organization act as conculse similar to sentor or goverment something like that and work together it will be more exciting because all fighters are fighting for one belt instead there is many belts and people argue who is the best.
It will for sure make P$P list easier for most of use and makes more money, but i dont know in terms of organization it will make for each one alone.
1st BOLD STATEMENT:
Its not up to the boxers at all, and thats actually what IS gonna happen. If the UFC takes over somehow, then the people who run the sport WILL look at eachother and would make big changes in hopes to save the sport!
its all about them. they dont care about the UFC. all they want to do is make money, they dont want to compete and they dont want to improve. its all about money to them. everyone in boxing always determines the path of least resistance and most profit, which is why they wont do anything about the UFC.
What a lot of journalists who put out articles talking about boxing's demise are missing is that UFC is attracting a lot of fans who are not fans of boxing.
Boxing fans are not switching over.
Ultimate fighting is the hot fad sport right now. WCW and WWF wrestling were hot in 1996-98 and is now on the decline. A lot of disillusioned pro wrestling fans are moving to UFC. But real boxing fans are still boxing fans, whether or not they follow MMA...
i agree with this as well
i agree with one, sort of. i totally disagree with #2.
boxers are not gonna suddenly look at each other and say "we gotta change or UFC is gonna beat us!" today's boxers are too busy taking time off while demand ridiculous sums of money to give a shit about what the UFC is doing. their heads are too far up their own asses and all over their own dicks to even think about the UFC. besides, other than the boxers, i really really dont think that anybody is gonna change to compete with the UFC. the UFC is a single organization, boxing is a treacherous and disgusting mess of organizations, sanctioning bodies, promoters, managers, and commissions.
dana white rules the UFC, its all under his control. which is probly why it works so well. he says "this fights gonna happen" and the fight does happen. meanwhile we got p4p king floyd and obscure and dangerous rival margarito demanding money and pointing fingers and not fighting.
its all about politics and money in boxing. in the UFC, its all about glory and gold, just the way it should be.
im glad that the UFC is more popular. cuz its the way fighting should be. boxing is too much up its own ass to do anything to improve itself.
UFC is street fighting. Boxing has grace and its beautiful to watch. UFC is disgusting to watch with elbows, holding and hitting, headbuts, knees, and hitting behind the head are ALL legal. It might be entertaining for some, but its not pretty at all. all its fans are 30 or lower and thats the way it'll always be.

2nd BOLD STATEMENT:
The only reason that happens is because the fighters dont make enought money in every fight to decide. As the salaries increase so will the fighters demands to fight other fighters. Then "dana white" will have no way of telling which fights are gonna happen because it'll be just like boxing
