Just watched an interview on **********.com, and Toney said he was now 270lbs, aiming at 267lbs for fight night. (unfortunately this was a subcription site, unable to post link)
I think he's BS though as he did have the slightest of smirks on his face as he said it.
My feeling is he'll be lighter than last couple, around 228lbs, as he looked slimmer in the face (that's all you could see.)
Best,
DRH
believe it or not many in the boxing community say that this fight will cement his legacy. Boxing people are saying that if he lose's, Toney will be remembered as being a great middleweight who blew up to heavyweight and failed at it.
This sums up Toney perfectly though. He was an awesome middleweight who beat poor opposition at heavyweight in an honest fashion and cheated/lucked out against the two quality guys he fought, Ruiz and Rahman.
I was watching the pre fight special on Showtime the other night. They interview both fighters and blah blah blah. I came away with two things from watching it.
One: Sam Peter is fucking delusional. He is a fucking overhyped piece of elephant shit. He had the ballz to say that he was never hurt in the Wlad Klitschko fight. Well anyone with a non biased perspective will tell you that Sam Peter was on queer street and was holding onto Wlad's legs for dear life. Yes it is true that Sam Peter took some heavy shot's from Wlad and took alot of them well, but Peter was on his way down after that left hook and Wlad should have moved in for the kill and destroyed him. Peter actually claims he won the fight. :D
Two: Toney better win this fight. If he lose's, even though he has had a legendary career, believe it or not many in the boxing community say that this fight will cement his legacy. Boxing people are saying that if he lose's, Toney will be remembered as being a great middleweight who blew up to heavyweight and failed at it.
I'm hoping he looks at least somewhat better then he did last time around, his balance was horrible. What I really hope is that he's not just sparring this time around, motherfucker needs some exercise. :D
There's a reason Peter is the slight betting favorite here. Toney didn't look good vs. Rahman and he's only getting older. Toney can't hurt Peter, so he won't discourage him with the counters, and Peter will keep coming forward trying to bomb him out.
We all know Peter can't box and few, if any, can box better than Toney. However, we also know how judges have been scoring fights lately, and if Peter can come forward for 12 rounds and throw big punches, partially landing and pushing Toney around the ring, he will get the decision almost no matter how many clean counters Toney can land.
I see either a late stoppage win for Peter or a controversial decision based on this pattern we've seen from judges.
If Toney is stupid enough to come in that heavy he deserves to lose. Samuel Peter might not be the fastest Heavyweight out there but we all know he has power. Toney is yet to be hit by a Heavyweight of Peter's build and he could be in trouble. If we take the Wlad Klitschko verus Samuel Peter fight it looks like Peter can take a decent shot. Toney surely won't be able to punch as hard as Wlad K?
I'll stick with my Peter win prediction. 7th - 9th round KO.
Well, for the Rahman fight he may have been trying to get to 255 from the looks of it...hehe...hopefully here he is BSing and will be in much, much better shape. Otherwise...it's lights out for him. (Cue Newman laugh...)
