Everyone on here & in the media were ripping Floyd for fighting Spinks and said that he should be fighting a tough guy in Baldy for the real title. Now he fights Baldy and everyone is saying that he's ducking Spinks?
What really got me and the reason why I made this thread is because I was just watching ESPN and it came across the bottom of the screen that, "Floyd Mayweather will be fighting WBC Welter Weight Champion Carlos Baldomire on a Nov. 4th PPV after backing out a fight with the IBF Junior Middleweight Champ Cory Spinks".
What kind of shit is that? Ive never seen them put some shit like that up there before. Basically they tried to make it sound like Floyd was scared of Spinks & running, when even there own ESPN boxing guy Dan Rafel was ripping Floyd for fighting Spinks and saying that he should be fighting Baldy.
Has anyone ever been hated on so much?
To Blackwallstreet:
i've seen the interviews too, they don't give you any of the details of any offers, and the time Team Hatton said they didn't want to fight him he was moving up to a new weight and going to the US.
I wouldn't blame Floyd for not wanting to have his first fight at welterweight against Hatton in Manchester, and vice versa.
Added to this I've always believed that the challenger (Floyd) should fight away from home and give up at least half of the purse to get his shot. You got any evidence that Floyd did this when Hatton was undisputed champ at 140. I doubt it, so blaming Hatton is silly.
I'm all for Floyd's P4P status, and I've no time for alphabets, but when Hatton is the top dog at 140 the fight should be on his terms more or less, like at 147 once Floyd has beaten Baldi he'll be in the posittion to call the shots at welter.
I see Margarito as a tougher opponent than Baldomir just because Antonio's the younger fighter and naturally a quicker puncher..
I'm one of the ones that's much more pleased with this Baldomir fight being made, in light of speculation of a fight with Spinks..
On to the other point i wanted to make about this thread, regardless of whether or not the "top" competition "doesnt want to fight him or has some other excuse", he still hasn't fought them yet, in otherwords, if you're putting Mayweather ahead of Wright P4P wise at this point, it's basically on speculation alone (or your just a Mayweather-head).
Marg is younger I'll give you that. I'm not so sure about the quicker part. They would have to fight because its really hard to judge they are both kind of slow if you ask me.
I have Floyd my #1 P4P not based off competition that he has faced but the fact that he is the true defenition of the word. He is a natural 135lb beating guys who out weigh him by as much as 10 pounds or more come fight night when he fights Baldi it could be 15-20. Winky still has to prove he can beat taylor convincingly at 160. for me P4P meant a guy who was good no matter what weight he was at. I had Floyd ahead of Hopkins just based off of that. I had RJJ and Oscar up there based on that I had SRL based on that. If you dont have a guy that is like those fighters who move up in weight and fight the guys who will fight him at those weight classes then you have to go by Talent and speculation alone. That's just how I feel about it.
Well tough shake for Marg. Floyd said after his fight with Gatti I only want big fights from here on out.
so he fights mitchell??? thats a bigger fight??
These fighters werent calling out Floyd like Marg is, and at that point, Floyd wasnt numbner 1 p4p.
Marg has absolutly no credibility if he believes he actully deserves a fight with Floyd.
His resume sucks.
Why doesnt he just take on a big name and get this bullshit over with?
why dosent floyd just fight him, take the $8 mil and get it over with? its not like he hasnt fought worse fighters than tony... tony would be floyd's biggest challenge in 3 years...
We will see how long Mayweather remains P4P King..............considering Floyd beats Baldomir, Floyd would be faced to fight top leave competition ( i.e. Miguel Cotto, Kassim Ouma, Paul Williams, Riviera or someone on that level.......not to mention Mosley or DLH ) so if you ask me PBF is the one that needs to enjoy the P4P recognition now because I seriously doubt a year from now he is still recognized as the P4P King. And to be honest I feel Winky Wright is the P4P King. I will make the arguement who has PBF fought that was a tough apponent other that Castillo, Corrales, *Gatti and Judah? Just for the record I am not a "Mayweather Hater", I just want to see PBF fight high caliber apponents........I know that boxing is a business of making smart decisions, but if you are going to talk the talk of being the greatest.......LOL..........then fight the best thats out there.
Brian from L.A.
I dont agree at all. The guys he wants to fight dont want to fight him or have some other excuse. what is he supposed to do not fight? He takes the best option available to him.
At 135 like I said previously the only fight that probably could have happened that he didn't take was the Lazcano fight and that didn't make sense to me. Spadafora and Dorin didnt want the fights.
So he moved up to 140 took a belt from Gatti. The other 2 guys Cotto and Hatton didn't want the fight after watching Gatti get the worse one sided beating of his life. They were the two only real big/tough fights at 140 after Gatti.
At 147 he wanted the undisputed Champ, Zab screwed it up he couldnt find a replacement so he fought Zab anyway.
Now he had several names in his hat for his Nov 4th date and made a great choice in fighting Baldi for the linear ww championship. How Baldi, a man who walks around at 185-90lbs while floyd walks around at 145-49lbs is not going to be a tough fight is beyond me. Baldi should be just as tough a fight as a Marg fight. It's a bigger stronger man vs a little guy. Gatti and Judah sure didn't fare well against him.

I can agree with that, and like I said I am not saying that he doesn't have all the skills and tools to be p4p, I just don't see how he can be p4p right now based on his resume of the last couple of years, especially over a guy like Winky. Eventhough he got a draw with Taylor which he arguably won, but look at Winky's opposition.

so in other words they fought nobody to get their shot at floyd, but margo has too... its just lame to tell margo to beat a name, before floyd will fight him, when floyd has been fighting guys that are much inferior...

Agree PBF has been taking a safe route. He's been picking fighters recently. But timing is everything and patience is a virtue. Hopkins proved that and I think PBF has all the skills and tools to be p4p greats.

I'm not trying to hate on the guy,and I am not even saying that he is not the most talented fighter in boxing right now but come on how can he be considered p4p when he will not fight anyone that is really going to test him or have the slightest possibility of beating him. He will not take that dangerous fight, he would rather settle for the safe fights that he knows the other guy doesn't have a chance. Even Floyd lovers can't dispute the fact that he has been playing it safe for a long time. Once again I'm not hating, it's just the truth, wether people want to beleive it or not.
no you can't blame Hatton really. Don't believe any of those offer stories, they're 90% conjecture, exaggeration and hyperbole.
Besides I don't think anybody sensible has a problem with Floyd jumping over one weight class given the circumstances, if he's now going to be the true champ at 147. To be THE champ at 3 weights is pretty damn impressive, RJJ only did 3 if I remember properly (Dariusz M)
I dont need to believe offer stories when there are plenty of interviews out there with Hattons team saying they didn't want a floyd fight at that time.

Well tough shake for Marg. Floyd said after his fight with Gatti I only want big fights from here on out. Marg doesn't fit into that goal of his because he hasn't fought anyone. Tough break. But thats the way it is. What's so hard for Marg to go out and fight a solid fighter with a name? Baldi did it twice.

Corely was a tune up to get used to 140 and wasnt a bad fighter to pick for that.
Bruseles he had to face to place himself in a mandatory position for Gatti's belt.
Mitchell was to get used to making 147 and fight at that weight. Not a bad opponent to pick.
Gatti was to pick up a title at 140 which he earned by beating Bruseles in an eliminator.
n'dou was a #2 guy who put himself in a position for a title shot. Also provided an excellent fight.
Sosa I have no clue I felt a fight with Lazcano would have been better. Floyd said Paul Spadafora and Dorin didnt want any. But I felt he should of fought Lazcano here. This is really the only fight that really made no sense to me.

what kinda lame crap is that? who the hell did corley, bruseles, mitchell, gatti, n'dou and sosa beat to get their fight with floyd?

I don't know. I personally don't give a shit. Mayweather is doing smart matchmaking. He could of fought Margarito earlier but he was being smart, much like we usually praise Hatton for making 'smart business decisions'.
He's fighting "the man" and i'm perfectly fine with that. Now he'll be a LEGIT 3 weight world champ, not 4 ;)
Well it would have been Legit 4. But we can blame Hatton for that now can't we.
On another note Floyd has said he will fight Marg, all Marg has to do is beat one named fighter and then they can set something up on Floyds terms. I dont see what's so hard about that.

What makes Margo a good fight, a better fight. What problems do he reall posess that suggest it will be a tougher, more competitive fight?
None of them know. Oh wait they are basing it off of the A level competition Marg has fought and looked good against.
The only real thing you can argue from a boxing stand point is that Marg has more overall power than Baldi but thats it. At the same time however Baldi is a bigger Man in weight than Marg and he brings a better pressure game than Marg. To me these guys are the same Skill level wise and they both get beat by Floyd.

I dont understand boxing fans these days when people are happy about a lesser fight being made.Do any of you really honestly think that Baldi is a harder fight than Marg?Yall give Marg abunch of shit because of the Santos fight but cheer a fight made with a guy with 9 losses 6 draws.I just wanted to see the best fight that could be made right now because im a boxing fan and i wanted to see the 2 best welters fight. Some of yall are like teenage girls with a crush on a pop star instead of boxing fans hoping to see your fav fighter prove himself against the best thats there.Ive been a big ssm fan for along time and when he stepped up and made a fight with Wright wich was a high risk low reward fight at the time because Wright wasnt a big name yet and i knew it would go bad but i was happy to have that fight because im a boxing fan and i want the best fights even if it puts my fav fighters at risk.If Marg takes a easy fight instead of one of the good welters out there ill call him a bitch just like floyd because i wanna see some good fights.
