That besides the fact that he was screaming No holding when they were actually boxing. But did anyone notice that at the opening bell of the 12th, Rahman did not get up and Nady went to get him.
After the first few seconds, Nady called a Time Out, riped Rahmans tape off and told him to go to his corner to re-tape, allowing Rahman more time to rest.
I have never seen the ref untaping the boxer's glove. How crazy was that?
when rahman tried to grab maskaevs leg on the way down after getting drilled and falling all the way across the ring it was clearly a knockdown as a punch caused rock to fall.
however nady ruled it a slip, let rock get up slowly, and gave him about 5 seconds to recover without giving him the count.
to say he was coaching maskaev to victory is beyond stupid
My feelings exactly

Nady was in a way "coaching" Maskaev into winning the fight. :) Once Maskaev adjusted into throwing left hooks and lead rights, the holding calls stopped. :)
And for the tape, it was coming lose, Nady tore off more til he got to the tape that wasn't saturated with blood and sweat.
I think Nady placed a bet on Maskaev to win by KO. :D I'm just saying....
What happens in Vegas....stays in Vegas.
"Coming lose" from what? they haven't traded any punches.. this was right at the start of the 12. If this was the case, they should have retaped his glove during the break
this was the first time i've seen a ref in a heavyweight fight who's so strict and was always shouting "no holding". i wondered how would jay nady going to officiate a fight like say a muhammad ali fight. was there a lot of holding in this fight? i don't think there was a lot.
Yeah and Lennox said the same thing he was like this is a HW boxing match there is going to be some holding no matter.I don't think it was so bad myself I have seen much worse holding going on.He would not let them punch out of anything it was pathetic and still was a great fight.I think it would have been even better if the ref would have let them punch out of some clinches and hold a bit like happens in a normal HW fight anyway.
I didn't catch Nady going to Rahman's corner, but, yes, the tape thing was sordid.
But, if Nady's intention was to hep Rahman as it seems to have been, Nady did a disservice. It looked to me like Maskaev planned to coast in the last round and was even on his toes jabbing, before Nady halted the action to rip off the tape. The pause, I think, gave Maskaev the idea that he should instead try and take Rahman out instead of just jab away. So, he tried. Seeing the effect, he gave it his all.
Poetic justice.

I really use to like Jay Nady but seeing him and reading about him how he handled this fight changes my views on him. Absolute garbage. He can go and join that other fool Joe Cortez.
Mitch Halpern...that was a good ref. R.I.P.
Steve Smoger is another good one...
