I think I've read that the winner of Toney/Peter gets a shot at the winner of Rhaman/Maskaev, is that true?
Toney/Peter vs Maskaev would be a HUGE fight for the heavyweight division.
IMO, I think Oleg has a chance to beat Valuev on heart alone, but will have much more problem with a guy like Sergey, he is younger and can maintain a very good workrate.
serg was knocked out by mo harris and fought an out of shape brewster that was also outboxed by journeyman meehan. the jury is still out on him. maskeav has the power and experience to beat serg. he's overrated imo after his upset win over brew
I wouldn't rule out Maskaev completely against any of the current champs. He's durable and workmanlike in his fighting style, and he has the great advantage of fighting at his natural size rather than having added muscle in the gym, which will slow you down and can actually take away from your natural power.
Wlad and Valuev give him trouble just because of sheer size. Lyakhovich gives him problem because he, too, is a natural sized fighter. I would guess that out of the 3 Lyakhovich would give him the most problems late, assuming he lasted that long.
do you think Maskaev is a good fighter?
Hes deffinately old and hes slow, but hes got heart and will fight untill he cant anymore. I think hes a good fighter, I mean hes is the wbc champ...
According to WBC President Jose Sulaiman, Maskaev will have to defend the title against the winner of the September 2 clash in Los Angeles between James Toney and Samuel Peter.
From Fight news
Maskaev can take a optional defense, which I hope come's against Wlad for unification. Maskaev does not need to fight his mandatory which would be either Toney/Peter.
