When Floyd Mayweather Jr. was on "Quite Frankley with Steven A. Smith", did Floyd say that Managers/Promoters take 33% of your paycheck for the fight?
So if true, what would the breakdown of a fighter's purse be?
33% to the con-artists
35% {maybe more?} to Uncle Sam
10% to the trainer
???% expenses
It's a trade off. Pay someone to manage/promote you or do it yourself. If you do it yourself every second you are promoting or lining up your next fight is time out of the gym. If someone does it for you, it's more workout time but it costs money.
I also read somewhere that King would have it written in that his son got a cut too for something. And I read that his daughter got 10% of Tyson's purses for running the Mike Tyson Fan Club.
I feel bad for boxers under Don King. He robs his boxers of so much money. Oscar got around 10-11 mil for the Mayorga fight. Mayorga only got 2 mil and Don King ended up with like 6 mil. All fighters whose promoter is Don King will always be robbed by him.
Mayorga got fucked sideways, in a fight that made ridiculous ppv buys he only got 2 million, I know that's alot in Nicaraguan terms but if he only got 33 percent then DAMN, like I said fucked sideways.
Thats why fighters only care about the money!!! I wonder what snake is going to move in once Don King, Bob Arum, and Gary Shaw are gone. Hopefully the Boxer owned companies can push them out.
Yes, fighters do have to pay about 1/3 to their promoters. It's just like being a lawyer. They get 1/3 of any settlement you get.
However, you have to be careful when calculating it. The promoters get their share before the fighter is taxed. Then, after paying the trainer, he gives the fighter the remaining 57% and the fighter only gets taxed on that amount. He then gets to write off training expenses on his taxes.
After taxes (and before expenses), a fighter usually makes about 37% of the agreed-to amound. So, if a fighter signs for a $1,000,000 fight, he only gets 370,000 after the promoter, the trainer, and Uncle Sam get their cut. He then has to pay expenses such as sanctioning fees, gym fees, airline tickets, seats for his buddies, and anything else.
So, all in all, figure a fighter get's about 33% of his purse after everything is said and done.
That is some BS!!!

The reason Baldomir couldn’t pay his sanctioning fees was because of the 100,000 he received for fighting Judah. He only ended up with 30,000 and if he would have paid the sanctioning fees. He would have gone home with nothing. There are even worse stories from the earlier stages in the professional ranks.

Thats why so many fighters are broke but the fans get mad if fighters put money 1st. This is a tough sport where you take a beating and dont get back much money in return unless your one of the chosen few
