I like Toney and think he's a awesome fighter. But with him possibly coming in at 260 pounds(according to maxboxing). I just don't know if Toney can pull this one off. Against a fighter who is younger, stronger and just as hungry if not more than Toney.
Toney no doubt as the better overall skills, but I hope he comes in shape this time around. I will be cheering for Toney, but have a feeling we will see Peters winning. What do you guys think?
toney is the kind of guy that wont back down from any opposition. and my gut instinct is that he will win a decision simply cause he cant be KO'ed by a crude fighter and he will obviously win a majority of rounds against peter.
however, the cynic in me says that every great fighter hits a wall, and toney is displaying all the classic signs, firstly he is exactly the age where a fighter almost always hits the end of the line. his performances have been mostly unimpressive lately and he has consistently gained weight (classic sign) i just have to believe, as great a career toney has had, that he will be knocked out just like so many other guys that have gone before him, that people made themselves believe couldnt be beaten.
the question is whether or not sam peter is that guy? does he know something we dont? why take this fight when there are many easier ones out there? on paper his physical strength is overwhelming, but can he make it effective?
this is a true 50/50 fight, vegas odds are pretty much down the middle, peter the slight fave, i for one probably wont make a final prediction until after the weigh in.
If Toney is gonna look like the pig I seen with no balance and no speed i hope he does lose...although I like him personally, I hate him as a heavyweight.
Ya, I can agree with that. If Peter does not knock him out, he won't win. Because there is no way Peter can decision Toney(of course assuming Toney will be in shape)
If Toney comes in at 260, he's finished. It's way too much, he'll be weighting more than Peter. Hopefully he'll lock himself in the gym and disconnect the phone so he can't order anything.
Toney has gained weight in every fight; i doubt he will come in in a better shape than the last time.

Ya, Toney may have the skills to beat Peter. But not the power.
Well clearly I don't think he will KO Peter. Peter took a lot of big shots from Klitschko who is a much bigger hitter than Toney. I just don't think that Peter will score the KO and therefore he can't win. Look at the Klitschko fight where he scored 2 knockdowns but still lost the fight on points. I think we see a less dramatic version of that fight on September 2nd.
i normally agree with you but not on this one and the reason is, although i believe toney can outbox him with ease time is not on his side and sam is going to put alot of pressure on him trying to land the one shot to put him away and i don't believe toney will be able to fend him off all night and toney don't have the power to make sam take a step back or worry about being hurt.

Rahman-Maskaev on PPV is almost criminal in my opinion. Isn't this a mandatory? If it is no mandatory like this should EVER be on PPV. Furthermore I don't think anybody gives a damn about the HW division anymore so there is even less justification for having it PPV.
Not too sure if it is a mandatory. But I'm not buying it even if it wasn't a mandatory.$49.95 for that fight??....I'll pass.
Firstly his name is Peter. Secondly Peter was out of shape against Klitschko so I think it is a question mark for both of them. Also his one pucnh KO power is incredibly overrated. He couldn't KO Klitschko with 1, 2, or 3 punches. And clearly Klitschko is a guy that can be KO'd. Now take James Toney who is 37 like you say but has NEVER been Ko'd. Not going to start against somebody as unskilled as Peter.

Toney can take a good pop. I don't doubt that, because he proven it over and over. But Peter is strong and there is no denying that. Maybe one of the strongest guys he has been with.
It should be a good fight. Way better than Rahman and Oleg Maskaev. And for less money :)

i agree. i hope Toney wins..i love to watch him fight. but this weight thing is getting out of hand. i hope he doesnt come in at 260 if he does he will be a big fat joke and should retire. he should come in like 220-225..if i ever seem him ima tell his fathead that too!!!
ya, 260 is too much. I hope it's just a rumor.

There is no denying that James Toney has way more experience and is the better fighter.
But he came put of shape in his last fight with Rahman. He's also 37 years old. I think my MAIN concern, is if Toney will be coming in shape? If he does, I see him winning. But if he comes in like he did in his last fight, I see Peters winning. And Peters has the kind of punch, where he can change the tune of things....with only one punch.
