Calzaghe is gonna go back to fighting bums

why does Calzag have great fights then goes back to fighting nobodies...its a shame cos he can beat any opponent at his weight

He gave up on SMW years ago, until Lacy starting getting rave reviews. How the hell can you say he gave up on SMW years ago?,Calzaghe has fought in SMW in the last 9 years,he`s last fight in LHW was in 1997-01-21 against Carlos Christie

He should be looking to fight Kesslerin 2007, Will never happen,Calzaghe has been avoiding Kessler like the plague.Well, it's no secret that JC doesn't want anything to do with Kessler. he's always talked as if Kessler doesn't even exist in the past, and i don't see that changing if (or when) Kessler beats Beyer. If Kessler wins, JC will probably come out with the old "I won't be able to make weight" line, but you can be sure that his metabolism will be that of a super model if Beyer were to somehow win the fight against Kessler

Johnson is a bigger draw. And I think he can give Calzaghe all he can handle.

calzaghe always fights bums. the lacy fight was a career defining fight, but he just had one big fight to compliment a whole career of mediocrity. if joe decides to fight a bum, i will not be suprised. he has this disability that doesnt allow him to seize any momentum that he gains in his career. maybe we should all go over to his house and have an intervention and tell him to get on the horse. I bet for everytime Calzaghe has had a hand injury, we could have gone over to his house and found him playing playstation or getting drunk and arm wrestling Ricky Hatton.

I almost want to see Calzaghe knock Roy's head off just to shut up the Jones fans. There are polls where a great number of his little boy fans are picking him to beat Calzaghe. Everytime I think of a Roy fan, I think of his kids dancing at ringside with wide eyes while Tarver whooped up on their dad in the third fight. That's the image I get of a Roy fan.

If he's heading up to 175 after his next fight, we probably won't see him back at 168lbs.

I think Calzaghe will fight 1 bum & have 2 pull outs over the next year. I think he is happy goin out on the Lacy win & will retire within 2 years. I hope I am wrong & we at least see Johnson & Kessler fights before he does retire. There are some good opponents/matchups out there for him.

After reading the title of the thread, I was expecting to see Calzaghe v Roy Jones. LOL!!!! Post of the day

Calzaghe is one of the best fighters in the world, he just needed a big win to prove it. His victory over Lacy was an amazing display, but Lacy was not a big name fighter. I'm afraid that Calzaghe is going to be content with that win for as long as he can be until the public demands another "challenge". I don't see Glen Johnson as being that challenge. That challenge is Mikkel Kessler at 168, but I get this feeling that Calzaghe has an even bigger head now and will only demand "big" fights. Not that you can blame him really because that's how the business works. But I will feel cheated if I don't see Calzaghe in with Green, Kessler, or Wright before he retires. :mad:

Joe needs a defining fight, no doubt about it. The Lacy win just proved to Americans he was world class, now he needs to step it up, but theres not many guys out there.

Lets keep the fingers crossed and see what transpires. The Lacy fight seems an age ago. Cant wait to see him back in the ring again.

No where in that fightnews article does it say he will be fighting a loser or unknown. Lets just wait and see. I hope it's someone good because Calzaghe is a real treat to watch perform. I hope that fight with Lacy lit a fire under his ass that will last til he retires.

Damnit, he's scheduled to fight in October and if he wins, and Glen Johnson beats Clinton Woods, then it's Calzaghe vs. Johnson in 2007 for the IBF Championship. THIS IS BULLSHIT!!!!! It basically means Calzaghe is going to fight some loser (he plans to announce the opponent on Wednesday) and then fight Johnson, neither of which are good fights. He should be looking to fight Kesslerin 2007, not Glen Johnson. Unless he's fighting Allan Green in October, I have to say I'm really disappointed with Calzaghe. You dont seriously rate Allan Green above Johnson, do you? No, I don't, but Allan green has the potential to be a top notch middleweight while Glen Johnson is just a good light heavyweight. I'm more irritated that we have to wait til 2007 to see Calzaghe in a good fight when he takes on Johnson. I'm saying I'd be happy if his tuneup was Allan Green in October and then Johnson in March 2007.
