After Roy's dominant performance against Ajumu last saturday night, where do you think he should go from here?Should he retire on a good note?An impressive performance against a limited opponent.Or should he give it one more shot at the big time?A fight with Johnson,Calzaghe,Tarver,ETC.Vote now!
It would be nice to see the losing boxer say "Jesus FUCKED me!! I prayed and the fucker let me down!!", but I wouldn't hold my breath on that, either.
:lol1: :lol1:
....Roy's last fight is going to give him just enough confidence to get stupid and go for a Tarver or Johsnon or Calzonie(ha ha) and get knocked out and possibly severely hurt again.
Good post K-Dogg
Anywho, why should Roy Jones have to be "disrespected"? In 50 fights he faced many bums (this is true!), however he also faced many top notch competitors. In the early 1990's not only did he beat - but also humiliated the likes of B-Hopkins, Vinny Pazienza, James Toney, Ruiz etc. Personally I think he would have been KO'd if he ever got in the ring with the heavyweights like Lennox Lewis. However, AT LEAST he PROVED by his performance against Ruiz that he could compete with what the heavyweights had to offer. Does this not impress anyone anymore?
I agree that Prince Adjamu is not a great fighter. But lets not forget that Roy didn't just barely beat a so-so boxer. Roy completely dommed him.
Roy has earned his respect on numberous occasions. A better question is when will he get the props he deserves...
Iwagh
It'd be nice to discuss Roy Jones without words like "hater" and "nuthugger"... kind of like discussing the sport as an adult, not as a juvenile in kindergarten. It would be nice to see the losing boxer say "Jesus FUCKED me!! I prayed and the fucker let me down!!", but I wouldn't hold my breath on that, either.
Too many haters for no reason..Respect must be earned, and quite franky wasting superior talent for so many years in a division that is known to have no depth of talent has earned him the right to be disrepected.
There will always be the question as to whether he was really that good or just looked so good because there was no real competition in the division he chose to spend most of his career.
It's funny. I was wathing a biography of Ray Robinson that I have on tape last night. I had forgotten that he fought until he was 44 or 45 years old in search of one more title shot before finally losing to #1 ranked contender Joey Archer.
It's easy for we fans to look at guys like Jones and Holyfield and jumping all over them, wanting them to do what is so obvious to us that they should do; retire. But, the thing we mere fans can't understand is the high of being on the mountain-top, of being the best fighter in the world and everybody knowing it. That's got to be more addictive than crack....and so hard to let go of, to accept that you can't do it anymore.
Athletes have such short careers when compared to the rest of us. By the time most of us are finally getting a grip on things and are beginning to really move up the ladder, they're washed up and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of their lives while knowing in the very depths of their beings that nothing is ever going to compare to their moment in the sun, when the world revolved around them...even if it was just the "boxing world".
For Roy, as it was with Ali, Robinson, and maybe even Leonard and countless others, it's about "one mo time.....jes one mo' time".
So, while the fan in me wants Roy to walk away and never look back, the man in me says go for it, Roy. Give it everything you've got; don't give up until you know in your heart that you can't anymore....
.....Just be willing to pay the price.
Retire,i saw the fight yesterday and RJJ are so open and he`s left arm hang all the times,if he fought Lacy,Calzaghe or Kessler,he will be KO
Since 20 years...and he still won 50 fights
Of course RJJ is not what he USED TO BE.
But he is still faster than a lot of the garbage boxing has to offer today..
Every person has their own right to whether they think Roy should retire or go on. HOWEVER, Roy deserves everyones respect for what he has done for boxing. Too many haters for no reason..

Again, good post----but I would like to see him fight Calzaghe; and yeah, I think he could win---even if he fought in Great Britain!!!!
uh I don't think anybody picked Ajamu to win that fight
Ajamu was a pathetic opponent who is being bashed by all boxing websites, including Dan Rafael at ESPN.com. go look it up and get a clue.
I think that Badi was a bad opponent, but considering Roy is 37 and was coming off 3 loses, two by which was Koed he deserves some credit for looking good. I wasn't sure what was going to happen going into the fight, I thought Roy would be koed again.
It was impressive that he could do it when people like you were doubting he still got it. I'm well aware that if it was someone like Johnson giving him pressure that Badi did in the 1st we would've seen Jones down again. I'm aware that his chances of winning a fight against a top fighter will give him his 5th loss, but I bein a fan will support what he's doing anyway.

Personally I would like to see Roy do what HE wants to do - which is fight just a little more.
It seems like all the Roy fans want to see him fight because they are fans (of course). And all the RJJ haters want to see him fight and LOSE so they can enjoy rubbing it in. All in all - alot of people want him to fight one way or the other so why not let Roy give it a shot :p

People were doubting RJJ.... as they should. I doubt him a large amount... but not against Prince Abujabu. The guy was a bum. There was a reason RJJ was close to a 5:1 favorite, not a 5:1 dog.
you were praising his victory over Ajamu like it was impressive and you're calling other people ignorant?

One more shot to prove the ignorant motherfuckers wrong :D

I chose 1 more shot for a double sided reason, so to speak. If he wins then I'll be proven somewhat wrong and it will all tell us something about RJJ. If he loses, then it can further diminish his somewhat unworthy status among fans and experts as well as retire him for good (and possibly improve the legacy if it's against an older fighter in Johnson, Hopkins, or Calzaghe).
I agree completely. I say let him get dusted again so his fanboys will have even less to worship him over.
