I used to have tons of respect for Ricky Hatton, but what he has done with the Collazo situation is ridiculous.
He won't give Collazo a rematch because he already beat him, well tons of people thought that Collazo had won and the fight was WAY too controversial.
Hatton needs to man up and fight Collazo again, if he doesn't do this, then there will always be a big dark hole in his career.
Who else agrees with me?
I made a thread about this in BB a few months ago and everyone obviously disagreed... LOL....
Well, what about you guys?
LMAO.
I had some respect until he called Mayweather out before the Gatti fight, saw Floyd annihilate Gatti and haven't heard him mention Floyd seriously since.
hard to lose what you didnt have to begin with
ofcourse he should..and now Urkal has became Hattons mandatory because he picked up the trinket from Callozo. thats a slap in the face to Callozo. he already stated he would rematch and should do so.
Now if he feels he is more comfortable and 140 thats a different story but aslong as he remains at welter he owes Callozo the rematch IMO.
Sure acknowledging that he was not as good at 147 and moving to 140 would be fine. But then Collazo would probably get a shot at the vacant title so no harm no foul. But if he takes Urkal... man is that a slap to Collazo. Collazo had every right to ignore Hatton and fight his mandatory, and now he is being punished for taking the better fight. As a boxing fan now I know why big fights are so impossible to make.
Yes but their was a knockdown and that is just an excuse...Thats like saying if Castillo came in at weight Corrales would have won and if the referee would have counted at a right pace Buster Douglas would have been kayoed by Mike Tyson.....
The knockdown was legit though and the fight was close. When you have 2 top guys fighting of course you are going to see a fairly close fight...
That is a nice point but if Tyson had not gone to jail don't you think there would be a rematch if Douglas was still holding the title? I know that Castillo and Corrales did schedule a rematch after the first weight scandal. The point is that highly competitive matches like this deserve a rematch. Hatton should grant Collazo one after all Collazo had no obligation to face Hatton. His mandatory was against Urkal but he gave Hatton the shot. Don't you think that Hatton should do him the same courtesy?
Yes but if Hatton moves to 140 that will be a moot point.
Collazo has done nothing but bitch, why not get back on his rocker and prove why he deserves a rematch. He reminds me of Vivian Harris before he was sent to the deck against Maussa.
Collazo should strike while the iron is hot and fight another top tier name...
Your right, I think that Collazo should stop crying over Hatton and climb back into the right against a mid-level opponent. Hatton's obviously not interested in a rematch and waiting around for him isn't going to help his career.
Maybe sometime down the line, Hatton and Collazo will meet up again.
Without the KD, it would have been a majority draw and Collazo would have retained.

If Hatton really said that he'd give Luiz a rematch and now is not honoring his word, then I definitely have lost respect for the guy.

Yeah he said he'd rematch him; but days or weeks after there was talk of either fighting the Gatti/Baldomir winner or dropping down to 140.

Also, is there any truth to the rumor that Hatton promised Collazo a rematch after the fight?

It wasn't controversial. It was unanimous. Most people who know how to score fights had that one 114-113 for Hatton or 115-112 for Hatton and not much else is acceptable. Hatton won a good, close fight against a tough southpaw. End of story.
This is not controversial like Barrera vs. Juarez where it was declared a draw, before two judges changed their scorecards to make EVEN ROUNDS, which is unheard of in big fights for the most part. Barrera knows his win was controversial, so he is giving the necessary rematch. HBO and all three judges had Hatton winning a close fight. It was not controversial.
I think the reason why so many fans(including myself) think that there should be a rematch is, that Collazo had Hatton seriously hurt several times in the fight and was close to knocking him out in final round. And from what I remember(the fight was awhile ago)Collazo was able to hit Ricky at will and scored quite a few hard combinations throughout the night.
My point is, Hatton looked very beatable that saturday night by very game and underestimated Luis Collazo. Also, had Hatton not scored that "flash" knockdown in the first round, the fight is likely scored in Collazo favor. I think a rematch proves to be a good fight and makes Hatton's position in the boxing world look better(if he wins) than if he fights Urkal in december.

Hatton learned that he needs to stay at 140. If he fights Collazo again, Collazo will have to go down. It's not about respect, it's about common sense.....
he won the first fight
SO! so did taylor, he fought hopkins again. so did Floyd, he fough castillo again. So did delahoya, he fought Chavez again. So did Winky, he fought Mosley again. So did Mosley, he fought Vargas again. I can go on and on. The bootom line is, he didnt win decisively like he was suposed to so u gotta do it again.
U and mechslave both are hypocritical!! I frown down more on fighters not fighting someone who most thought fought a close fight with them before, than fighters who never fought each other. If u a fight guy and he gives u a run for your $$$ and he wasn't supposed to, u fight him again. The fact that he is in no rush to fight Collazo again shows me it wasnt no fluke and Hatton just might lose again.
he won the first fight
Wise words from mechslave. I agree with him. You can't really say Hatton is "ducking" Collazo, but he doesn't want to fight him because he had trouble with him. Fair enough. That's good enough for me.

Hey, bottom line- I like Hatton's record and level of competition over the past 3 years better than Mayweather's. No doubt.
Mayweather is shamelessly avoiding Margarito. Hatton is avoiding Collazo, but hey, he just beat him, clearly. Close, but clearly. So he doesn't want to fight Collazo again? There are many other fights I'd rather see Ricky take. Some are saying Collazo won, but I'm not quite sure how they could come to that. The rounds were very clear. Collazo did next to nothing in a whole string of rounds where Hatton was working him over against the ropes. Giving Collazo every conceivable benefit of the doubt ends up with 6-6 in rounds, being generous, and with Ricky getting an extra point for the KD, he wins. It was a close fight, but not controversial at all. There's a difference. All close decisions are not controversial ones. Considering it was Hatton's first fight at 147, and how his body didn't really look up to the new weight, I'd say he will look better in his next fight, whichever weight it's at.
I have lost some respect for Hatton for not giving Collazo a rematch. True that not every "close" fight deserves a rematch, but this was more than just close. Most of the people that think Hatton won the fight scored it 114-113. That means it was an even fight except for a flash knockdown that was more a result of balance than being hurt. That means Collazo's loss of balance for a split second was the difference between retaining and losing his title. A match that close IS deserving of a rematch and I think Hatton should grant it.
The brits are known for fighting mandatories and his stock will continue to rise overseas...
But to my understanding he wants for catch the appeal of America and fighting mandatories isnt going to do that unless your mandatory is Cotto/Mayweather or other top names at 140-147.
I wouldnt mind it if Hatton fought Oktay and Cotto was on the same card and they had a showdown next June the day before/after the Puerto Rican Day Parade...That would be huge.
I wouldn't mind that scenario either, even if it was with some other top fighter. I would also love to see him fight Castillo if he went back down to 10 stones. However I know he has stated that he is only fighting about a handful more fights before he retires and would like him to maximize that.
Constant money moves and padding the record? How does this work together? Mayweather use to get a 3 mill guarantee on his fights *ahem Bruseles* and he made more for fighting higher caliber opponents (just recently) way back when at 130-135 Mayweather fought for the same amount of money against rough and tough guys.
Mayweather is smart, he knows his profession is short lived and he is looking out for his own best interest and rightfully so. (Is boxing a team sport?) His boring ass style? Mayweather is a tactical fighter and a technician he isnt some bar brawling garbage club fighter, so I take it you truly do not appreciate and love the sweet science because Mayweather represents every aspect in the science and art of boxing.
I think you are confusing arrogance with confidence...When you are on top everybody tries to bring you down.
I dont see how anybody can hate on Mayweather for his career so far. He is young and already his resume is jam packed with top caliber names.
Zab Judah
Arturo Gatti
Corley
Sosa
Castillo
Corrales
Chavez
Hernandez
Juuko
Manfredy
If Mayweather retired today he would go down in the boxing hall of fame...
yawn. you have roy jones in your sig. therefore your opinion doesnt count.
