Hatton has now turned down Floyd, he wont give Callazo a rematch, and he said he would fight Chico but hasnt mentioned his name since, and now he has a great opponent in Harris who will fight him at 147 or at 140 where Hatton is better and wants to come back down to.
I still say that Harris beats Hatton or Cotto. Smokin made a thread about people flipping on Harris but he cant say that at all about me because I jumped to his defense after the Mouse fight and said that people are overreacting to the loss. I did the same for Zab against Baldy because you can tell they didnt bring there A game but atleast Baldy can back his up while we all know Mouse was a joke. Then anyone who watched the fight could easily see that Harris was killing him but he just ran out of gas and he had alot of problems going into that fight.
Dont fight Urkal who Harris has already beaten twice and Harris would probally even go to England to make this fight. If Hatton beats Harris then no one can clown him anymore. This is a big fight and I say Harris beats him. Tell me who you think wins, how, and why? Would you pick a different guy to win at 140 then you would at 147? BTW, the story is on BT if you want the link
Exactly.
Urkal was more proven and Harris was getting a bigger share of the purse.
That's no kind of business or career sense, unless he thought he might lose to Hatton. Hatton was the money and if Harris was confident he would have taken the fight and his biggest payday. I've even seen quotes from Harris' promoters at the time critisizing him for it.
PBF34, I made a mistake. He did say he would fight Cotto for 50,000. Here's some Harris quote's for ya.
In October WBA light welterweight champion Vivian Harris will be traveling to Manchester, England to defend his title against undefeated Ricky Hatton. Harris was originally scheduled to travel back to Germany in September to fight Oktay Urkal in a highly anticipated rematch. But after negotiations reported failed on where the fight would be held, Harris decided not to take the rematch. So now the 24-1-1 (16) Vivian Harris wants a piece of 36-0 (26) Ricky Hatton. Harris stated that Hatton has a big mouth and he will even travel to Ricky’s hometown to shut him up. Harris stopped by the Doghouse to talk about Urkal and his up coming title fight against Ricky Hatton.
BH: In an interview you did you stated that a rematch with Oktay Urkal wouldn’t do anything for your career, and you shouldn’t have to travel to Germany to defend your title against him. But, you will travel to Ricky Hatton’s country and give him a shot at your title. Why is that?
VH: Because the Ricky Hatton fight is a fight that I’ve never fought before, and I want it. I already beat Urkal in his country. When I was there his trainer said that I was holding my foot in the corner. His trainer was being dirty. I didn’t worry about all that but I didn’t think that it was right that I go back and defend my title in Germany, cause I already did that. And I’ll go to Hatton in England because he won’t come to America to fight me, so I’m going to England and fight him. I mean, because he talks a lot of shit and I am defiantly going to shut his mouth.
BH: Any predictions on the Ricky Hatton fight?
VH: I don’t have any predictions, but I’ll guarantee I’ll be the winner. And if Ricky wants to put up fifty thousand dollars I’ll bet Ricky that he’s not winning this fight October 2nd. I’ll bet fifty thousand dollars of my purse that I’ll beat Ricky Hatton that night. I don’t care if I stop him or go to the decision I’m going to be the winner of that night. And I don’t care where I’m at, that’s why I’m going to England for him cause I don’t care where the fight is at.
He said he would make a bet for 50,000, not fight for 50,000.
I dunno man. Urkal was more proven than Hatton at that time, he'd given Kostya one of his tougher fights and nobody in their right mind would chose to risk fighting in Germany on principle. Harris ducked him.
Exactly.
Urkal was more proven and Harris was getting a bigger share of the purse.
Simply by principal, probably.
And plus, Urkal is a fighter he knows he can beat no matter where the location.

yes, AND? What's your point? Harris said he would fight him for 80,000 and he said he would go over to England and do it. He flip flopped on Steward's advice and ducked Hatton clearly.
When did he say that?
So why did Harris choose to fight Urkal in Germany instead for a 1/5 of what he would have made against Hatton?
Simply by principal, probably.

Hatton offered the champion the lesser purse AND wanted the fight to take place in his backyard.

Harris was one dimensional in both the Maussa and Johnston fights. He was purely looking to time and land a big right hand. The feather fisted Johnson even had him wobbily in the 6 or 7th round. Hatton will not allow him the time to set up the right, plus Hatton has the steel chin ne way, Hatton by KO.
Hattons chin is far from steel.

LOL. It was a crazy offer considering it was Harris' biggest payday yet...Harris said he would fight Hatton for 80,000 and Hatton offered him 500,000.
Hatton offered the champion the lesser purse AND wanted the fight to take place in his backyard.
Yeah, if I was Hatton, I'd say screw him. Harris had the offer on the table and didn't come to England, so Hatton waited it out and got Kostya Tszyu to come, which made Harris look like a wuss. Now Hatton is in the driver's seat and Harris doesn't even have his belt. Harris is in no position to be calling Hatton out now when he already turned the fight down in 2004.
Id turn down the offer to go to England when YOUR the champ to get less of the purse.
That was a bullshit offer by Ricky.
You dont make champs come to your hometown and give them 40% of the purse.
Lucky for Ricky, Tszyu came to England for some reason, and well..you guys know the rest.
Zu was king at 140....undisputed period.
Floyd hasnt doesnt that since 135....he is at 147 still not doing it.
Oh and Zu ko'd zab in the 2nd round, that more than Floyd did.
Tszyu was linear champ, but was not undisputed in any way, shape or form.
And the this fighter beat this fighter so this fighter will lose to this fighter shit doesnt work.
Go watch some boxing or read some boxing books, becaues you have no idea what your talking about.
What the fuck? I don't understand DLT's logic. You said: "Stop contradicting yourself. Floyd has no obligation to satisfy your needs by mentioning Margartio. The fact is that Floyd has always said the same thing about Margartio but Hatton looks like a fool by saying that he would fight the winner of Castillo-Chico and then wanting nothing to do with Chico. " Maybe because they haven't fought for a 3rd time yet, dipshit.
Harris/Sharmba Mitchell already clearly ducked Hatton a little while ago. Hatton is in the better position now...he's got a 3 fight deal with HBO and he's a big star now. He won't fight Harris unless it's like a HUGE split in his favour because that's just how boxing works. Harris never fought him before when Hatton needed him and now the situation is reversed. Hatton is going to bail and for good reason.

but Zab won an easy 1st round and got lax, his athletic ability and talent was far superior than Kostya, just so happens Zab greatest strenght is his greatest weakness.
I picked Harris by KO. My reasons: 1-During the fight with Johnston I noticed how fast Harris hands are. He's very quck & can land that right hand in close quarters without needing the spacing like Zu does. 2-He's an under rated counter puncher & if he lands he can hurt you & he punches in combination. If he fights like he did early against Johnston he'll stop Hatton because he fought ecomnomically. He didn't waste punches & used his jab very well. Collazo showed that if you jab Hatton & punch in combination you can outbox or frustrate him. And I believe that Harris punches harder than Collazo.
Stop contradicting yourself. Floyd has no obligation to satisfy your needs by mentioning Margartio. The fact is that Floyd has always said the same thing about Margartio but Hatton looks like a fool by saying that he would fight the winner of Castillo-Chico and then wanting nothing to do with Chico. Why do you keep bringing up Casamayor when that fight was just made a few days ago and the Chico-Castillo thing was a long time ago. Obviously Hatton had no intentions on fighting him
You guys talk about Hatton like he has done so much and has looked so dominant. You guys diss elite fighters and then brag on Margarito who has not 1 good win and on Hatton who only has 1 and that was against a 35 year old who had basically just been off for 2 years and it was in England. Alot of people think he just lost his last fight and you guys are going to act like he is untouchable. Please. Harris doesnt have a punchers chance. He has a legitimate chance and would win
You're all mixed up. Hatton said he wanted to fight the winner of that fight but there was no winner. Chico expressed no interest in moving up in weight as he had no problem making 135. Regardless of what he said on FNF, he wants a rematch with Casamayor because some people think he lost the 2nd fight. Chico is a proud fighter and wants to right that. Hatton still has plenty of time to fight Chico IF and WHEN he moves up. Hatton owns 2 good wins in the last year against a solid champ and against a title holder that nobody really wants to face. Take it from me, Floyd is my favorite boxer, Hatton took a tougher test for his first fight at WW and deserves his respect for that. Sure he didn't look impressive but you can't win every fight easily especially against good opposition. Margarito is a different story. He may not have beaten elite competition but that is not his fault entirely. Judah and Mosley and Mayweather have turned him down. He beat Andrew Lewis who was champ (yes he lost to Mayorga I know) and he beat Cintron who everybody liked before the fight. Margarito has crushed all opposition willing to face him (calling somebody out doesn't qualify). Losing to Daniel Santos at 154 was not indicative of anything except that Margarito is better at 147. He was coming on in the fight and I think would have stopped Santos if not for a headbutt. I try to treat all fighters the same and criticize when they deserve criticism and praise when they deserve praise. This all being said... Harris is so overrated its not even funny. The man has lost to both Olivera and Maussa and drew with Ivan Robinson. Who has he beaten if you're going to talk about Margarito?

There is no contradiction. Pay attention. The need you want satisfied is to have Hatton cal out Chico again, which is dumb. Hatton has mentioned him in various interviews. The fight was there.
Floyd said he's all about the money, was presented with plenty of it, and turned it down. He's not satisfying his OWN needs, apparently.
Harris will get his ass kicked. If Maussa can do it, and Olivera can do it, Hatton can do it. He has more energy than both of them, fights just as dirty, and brings more power and skill.
I don't diss Floyd. He deserves his number one sport. But you are so pissy when people call Floyd out on his turning down of what he loves (money) vs an 'easy' guy, you have become rabid.
I will bet you all my points that Hatton will destroy Harris if they fight, and it will be a stoppage win. I'll even bet you $50 through paypal if you want.
i have alot of respect for harris, but styles makes fights and hatton would be all wrong for harris... harris should fight guys who's style will allow him to use his size and reach, like zab, pbf, cotto...
Hatton has no obligation to satisfy your needs by mentioning Chico anymore than he did. Once is enough. Chico, if he wanted the fight, could have had it. Instead he goes for Casa even though he said on Friday Night Fights that Casa didn't look good enough to deserve a fight with him. For you to think Hatton is or should be more scared of Chico than Castillo is a flat out joke. Chico is damaged more than Jose, and is smaller and can't take a punch as well as Jose.
Olivera has not impact on Margarito. Keep up. Olivera is a pressure fighter, and won the fight vs Harris by applying pressure. If he can do that, Hatton can do the same thing and probably will.
Sure I have. VS Magee. He was stunned. Harris hits harder than Magee. Harris' only chance, and it's a slim one, is to badly hurt Hatton with a right hand, and then follow up with a barrageof punches to get a TKO.
