I think this is a good question. Augustus has a horrible record of 32-27-6. If any elite guy in the history fought a guy with a record like that on HBO or Showtime then we would say it is the biggest joke and embarrasment in History but we all know that this guy is different. Even a person who isnt a hard core fan would laugh at this and wouldnt want to watch it.
My question is would you rip any of the elite guys for fighting Augustus right now or would you think it was good and you would want to see it? Im talking about Floyd, Margarito, Cotto, Hatton, Chico, Castillo, or whoever?
Jesus Chavez has already fought Augustus, and won by KO, back when they were just starting out.
ok
that was a long time ago
let them fight again and it would be highly entertaining
Hatton and Cotto wouldn't gain anything from fighting Augustus. Augustus is 3 or 4 rungs down the ladder from Hatton and Cotto.
Yes i understand that, but as a fan, I think it would make for a great fights, i know neither would take the fight though, there is way too much risk, for little reward. But i for the record i'd take Aygustas in noth fights
I would only lik eto see him in with Cotto, or Hatton, Floyd has already fought him, and Chico and JLC are already proven fighters

teen and post teen are polarizing, black and white, binary thinkers on this topic
not mayweather again but i'd like to see him fight guys like jesus chavez, julio diaz, juan urango, ricardo torres, mike arounotis, or oscar diaz

people are more obsessed with hating on augustus than appreciating him on this damn board. why not get off his dick?
he's a scrappy fighter who's lost and who's won. he's entertaining as shit either way. end of story. i like watching him fight no matter who he's fighting, i agree with the comment about him playing down to the level of his competition.
What we have here is a post teen and a teen talking shit about a bunch of fights they haven't seen, and telling a bunch of people who like to watch Augustus that they're crazy because you too see a whole bunch of red dots on his Boxrec page.
Nothing you can say is going to change the fact he's popular simply because people want to see him fight.

Yea it was on the shitty show with the crap anouncers but last time i checked its the boxers that people what shows for not the acctually show or people who talk during the show, and from floyds mouth,he was the hardest fight of his carrer and he still says that, ohh and btw for all you people who love ricky hatton...his chin is shit, is once good work-rate has become low blows, lefts to the bodys, hugging and his best weapon...a jaw to the right fist :boxing:
I'd have to disagree I'm afraid. Hatton's chin is still solid, he still has the workrate, and his left to the body is top class and a worthwhile punch to use.
I saw that fight. You mean that fight in Flint, Michigan (I think) with the crappy anouncers who asslicked Floyd. He bloodied up Mayweather who severly underestimated a 15 loss novice augustus at the time. That's sure alot to hang your head about. Floyd won every round and if i remember correctly it was at 135 which was when he was the 'stick and move' Floyd not the in-pocket fighter like he is today.

Augustus is a good fighter.
Let him do what he could do the best and that is to box.
I think that If many fighter fought the way he did it they would encounter many deafts too.
When you come in the ring all the win and loss does not mean anything but all the sweat, blood and tear do.
Diego, you seen Dorin - Augustus?
Have you seen Augustus vs Ivan Robinson, or at 21 years old when he fought Hurtado after he had just fought Sweet pea?
You're trying to name the few fights you have actually seen and thinking it justifes all the non sense you just spouted about people who want to see him fight being idiots.
You're just underlining what's making you ignorant.
I also think it's hilarious how his supporters say he fights on a week's notice and shit and that's why he loses. It's called DON'T TAKE THE FIGHT. The way Augustus lives, he just goes into every fight with a built in excuse, making it appear to be a win-win situation for him. Well, nobody gives a damn, Augustus. He's as delusional as they come.
Once again, a display of more ignorace.
He grew up poor, and fought on all those cards on no notice and travelled to do so because it gave him an opportuity to box full time. There were no illusions through out his career about his role: a club fighter that would fight anyone anywere on short notice. Yes he stepped in and lost a lot of fights.
But he gave a good account of himself and has become more and more popular with each year that's gone by.
This goes back to why people want to watch him fight, which brings us right back to you being a trolling little kid who hasn't seen the majority of fights or fighters he's talking shit about.
Hmm, would I approve of an Augustus fight? In certain situations. If it was a BAD or Shobox card and he was an opponent for an up and comer, definitely bring it on. As for him in a title fight on WCB, probably not. In the old days, a guy could have 20 losses and it didn't mean anything as long as the guy could fight. However, in todays PPV world, a sterling record is an essential marketing tool.
HBO and Showtime are very different in their matchmaking. HBO buys fighters, Showtime buys fights. HBO would accept an Augustus fight if he was going up against an HBO house fighter. As for Showtime, they probably wouldn't do it unless it was for a major title and the matchup was something people wanted to see.
I know he's popular. I'm not debating that. I'm saying there is no point in any top level guy fighting him because he is not a challenge.
That's not what you're saying at all.
You said he's a joke, and people talking about him (IE liking him and wanting to see him) are idiots.
You then said this thread is pointless.
Once again: the fact that so many people like to see him fight is why you're seeing so much talk about people wanting to see him fight a marquee fighter with time to train.
People love to root for the under dog.
In a time when Ray Austin and Shannon Briggs are fighting for HEAVYWEIGHT titles, there's not a THING wrong with Augsutus fans wanting to see him step in and fight Vivian Harris when his opponent crapped out on him in two weeks.

I dont mind watching Augustus fight. I just dont take him seriously. Anyone who takes a dive like the one Augustus did that was posted here sometime ago cant be taken seriously. He's only good enough to lose everytime...but watchable.

Gatti's popular too. Has he ever been competitive with a great fighter? Hell no.
