Year 2000 Mosley vs. Current PBF.
I know PBF has better speed & boxing skills than Prime Mosley. but Mosley has greater power and his combinations were amazing.
Who will win if they fight at 147lbs?
I think this is poorly phrased. Right now, at 147, I favor PBF over Mosely. If both were at 135, I would've picked Mosley in a very, very close fight. Mosley was a beast at lightweight, probably top 3 all-time. I would've picked him against Castillo, Corrales, Lazcano, both Diaz' and everyone else at 135 right now but against PBF I think it would've been a close decision win for Mosley.
If he has trouble making 147, how can he ever be expect to move up and fight guys like Winky or Oscar, and not be affected. I think moving up that much weight could effect him similar to the way it affected Mosley. Guys like Floyd and Mosley who rely so much on speed are definately affected the farther up in weight they move. Winky is big at 154, and Oscar has already said there will be no catch weight. He says if Floyd wants to fight him he will fight him at jr. middle limit, and in negotiations what Oscar says pretty much goes. No one is gonna out negotiate Oscar not even Floyd. I'm not hating, I am just making a point. You yourself admitted he was small at welter and struggled to make weight.
Oh I totally agree. 154 is a big mistake for Floyd. His skills may allow him to compete for some time but eventually he will make a mistake and get caught. I think he can survive if he manages his career intelligently. I know you are a big Oscar fan, but I don't think he can beat Floyd at 140; 147; or 154. I see the fight going a lot like the DLH-Mosley fights but we have already discussed why Floyd will be a tougher opponent for Oscar (speed; defense). After he fights DLH, he should immediately go back down to 147 for a match against either Shane or Margarito. Then he can decide as time passes whether he stays at 147 or goes back to 140. Eventually after he beats a few more big name fighters, Floyd can retire with no qualms and maybe even undefeated. The longer he stays in the game the more likely he is to get caught and lose.
I totally agree that 147 is not the weight for Floyd. Against Zab he came in weighing 146 the night of the fight. Clearly, he can make 140 so I don't see why he was so insistent on fighting at 147. Now I guess it makes sense since the big guns at 140 are all moving up.

I think Floyd by UD. Mosley was never a great "boxer" by definition. He was a quick fighter with good power, but he never really mastered the defensive part of the game. Shane has always been there to hit for his opponents, when he won he would just hit them more. I think the speed variable is a wash and I think Floyd's defense is much better. Therefore I think Floyd wins a decision...not easily but comfortably. Mosley never really dominated anyone at 147... he beat Oscar but it was really close. He beat some average contenders and he lost to Forrest. I think a real prime Shane was at 135 but I think Floyd was even more dominant at that weight so it would be an easier fight.
I am a big DLH fan, but I have to admit that Mosley won the first fight now the second I think that Oscar probably should have gotten that decision. I respect your opinion and you are right about Floyd being the better boxer, but I still think Mosley would have taken him at lightweight. Your right that Mosley never dominated at welter, but neither has Floyd granted he just go there but he looks small at welter and jr. welter was definately a better weight for him, the same goes for Hatton. In my opinion Floyd will eventually lose at welter and I'm not hating or being biased because as I said earlier, I am not even a Mosley fan. To be totally honest if they fought I would probably root for Mosley, but I am not sure how good of a matchup that is anymore or that is as meaningful because Shane is nowhere near his prime.
prime mosley by lopsided blowout, current mosley by lopsided knock out.
I totally respect your opinion, but given Floyd's skill set how can he really be dominated by any opponent (other then being KO'd early)? Floyd is very hard to hit even for an accurate quick puncher like Shane.

mayweather has only been fast in one fight corrales thats the only time his speed impressed me , judah was way faster and mayweather couldnt do shit for 4 rounds if judah could do that for a whole fight mayweather wouldnt stand a chance, but he would have to train three times as hard
It sounds so dumb for you to say that he's only been fast in one fight. How does that make sense?
You say Zab gave him problems but dont forget that Zab was a lefty and it took time for Floyd to figure him out. He couldnt do it the whole fight because Floyd figured him out and then he couldnt win another round.
Also because Zab is a lefty, Floyd didnt really let his hands go at full speed or heavily commit to the punches. He knew that by Zab being a slick lefty with mad speed & power, that he couldve caught him with a blind punch and hurt him bad. Floyd fought with aggressive caution. Even with Zab's speed, if he wouldve been a righty then Floyd wouldve killed him.
Ive never seen a guy get criticized as much for a pretty dominant performance over a top fighter on his best night. He didnt come close to winning one round after the 4th and he mightve been stopped if he didnt do the low blow.
Also for speed, dont forget that it was only Floyd's 2nd fight at 147 and he came into the ring weighing 146. He clearly doesnt belong at that weight so you know that will make him slower but he's still able to beat those guys because of his skill level
Prime Mosley would have taken Floyd. They were very similar, but I think Mosley was a little faster and definately had more power. He also has a good chin, and has been in with bigger stronger guys. The only guys that gave him trouble were the taller longer guys with reach advantrages. I think Mosley at lightweight would have definately taken Floyd, may have evn knocked him out. Mosley was a monster at lightweight, and this is coming from a guy that isn't even a Mosley fan. I never really cared for him, but it's the truth.
He was a monster but he also fought bums. He didnt fight the guys that Floyd fought at 130 or 135

There's a interview right now on BT with John David Jackson who has recently trained Mosley in his last couple of fights before this past one.
In it he says the same thing Ive been saying. There is also a writer that Ive read recently that said Mosley would win because of Shane's "power boxing".
Power boxing is what Jack Mosley belives in and not too many guys in history have ever used. Power boxing is to throw nearly every punch with your full strength and to throw massive combos with full power. Thats why Shane has been so devastating.
However like me, Jackson said that there is no way you will beat Floyd with power boxing. He said that you have to come into the ring with multiple game plans to beat a guy like Floyd because you might have to do something different to take him out his game plan.
The bottom line is that Floyd is by far the more complete fighter and you wont beat someone who is a great talent with great defense like Floyd or Winky with power boxing and no defense. When you face elite guys like them with great defense then they know how to take away your strengths and you have to be able to adjust.
Shane has never shown a ability to adjust, he fights the same exact way every fight all fight, and has no defense. Meanwhile Floyd was also super fast, also throws combos, is 10x better on defense, has shown numerous times a ability to adjust during a fight, and changes his style from fight to fight. Floyd is just the more complete fighter. He also throws straight punches while Shane throws looping punches.
Shane will always look like the more exciting fighter but 90% of the time the more complete fighter will beat the one demesional guy every time
I would go with Mosley...
Mosley, size / power...
Mosley had trouble with Taller/Bigger oponents (Forrest, Wright, DLH) due to the size and reach disadvantage.. Fightig Mayweather, Mosley is the bigger fighter. If we are talking about the 2000 Mosley, I don't think Mayweather would have the speed advantage
