Everybody is acting like Mayweather is ducking all sorts of fighters and responsible for big fights not happening. I hope Floyd doesn't let this garbage coming from internet fans get to him because just like Hopkins, in a few years they'll forget all about it and all will be on Mayweather's bandwagon. In 2003, you couldn't find a single Hopkins fan on any message board anywhere, and that is a fact. ESPN bashed him, HBO bashed him, everybody criticized Hopkins for not making good fights. They criticized him for not making the Roy rematch a reality and they criticized him for not fighting Toney after Toney crushed Jirov. Now it's 2006, and everybody is a Hopkins fan. Nobody remembers that just three years ago, the entire world hated this man. Larry Merchant bashed Hopkins face to face like none other. Even Max Kellerman had enough of Hopkins' shit by the summer of 2003, and no one cared about Bernard. Now on this board, every other person has a Hopkins avatar and claims they were down since day one and all sorts of bullshit. Sure, he had fans after he destroyed Trinidad, but that was more because a lot of people wanted to see Trinidad go down and be the one to call it. After Hopkins fought Trinidad, he fought nobodies for three more years before reaching De La Hoya, and everybody wanted to see Hopkins lose that one. And it wasn't just because De La Hoya is such a boxing darling. It was because PEOPLE HATED HOPKINS. Now you'd be hard pressed to find one boxing expert or fan who doesn't kiss Hopkins' ass all day long. Hopkins played it right, and Mayweather will too.
Right now, so many people hate Mayweather, but to Floyd I say this: just keep plugging along and doing your thing, and nobody will remember how they felt about you in 2006. Except of course people like me.
OMG..5 WEIGHT TITLE HOLDER..NOT CHAMPION..CHAMPION MEANS BEST IN DIVISION...AS IN "RING" CHAMPION...DO YOU EVEN WATCH BOXING?
You do know the ring is just a magazine and not a sanctioning body, right?
Do you even watch boxing?
"And he turned down the biggest purse of his life not to fight Roy."
Just like FLoyd turned down the biggest purse of his life to not fight Margarito.
He never officially turned it down.
And plus, Hopkins went on to fight Morrade Hakkar, while Floyd will either fight Mosley (all time great) or spinks (5th world title)
Hopkins had 20 defenses at middle weight right?? means he didnt go up a class here and there avoiding other fighters at middle like Mayweather did at 140 and is def doing now at 147. Hopkins didnt have to fight Taylor but he did. HE WASNT DUCKING JONES/TONEY WAS THE POINT HE WAS DICUSSING CATCH WEIGHTS JUST TO MAKE BIG MONEY FIGHTS.
Hopkins stayed at a mediocre division for 20 defenses, and was content not to take chances.
We now know he could have moved up to super middle and light heavyweight with relative ease.
And he turned down the biggest purse of his life not to fight Roy.
yeah..another belt for his legacy...that comment shows you dont know much. their is no point debating with you.
so its ok for hopkins to make the big 20 title defence for his legacy, but not ok for PBf (if thats what he trys to do) to become there first ever 5 weight champion under the age of 30?
you really have just spouted out line after line of crap

PBf is in one of, if not THEE hotest divison right now... hopkins was in one of the shitest devisions... you say he didn't go up as not not avoide people at middle.. who was there to avoide lol?? hakkar lol? or maybe the great howard easterman:)? Calzaghe, toney, jones all above him. If he could get $3mill for calzaghe who hardly anyone in america rated then, how much do u think he could of gotten for taking on toney or jones Jr?? fuck the 20 defences, he could of tried to be a 3 weight champion, with wins on his record over people like jones jr, toney, calzaghe tarver in his prime just to name a few - anyone who isnt willing to bend over for nard would agree beating them, taking their titles would be much more impressive than most of the people he holds wins over.. and no doubt the money would of been alot bigger, 'coz thats what you said didn't you? nard went for the 'money fights'
don't get me wrong though, im not really a pbf fan, i niether like nor disslike him, but untill he next 2-3 fights happen i think its unfair to say he has avoided anyone as of yet...
But you made out hopkins was willing to fight anyone and everyone.. when clearly he wasn't
Dont compare Mayweather to Hopkins. Do you know anything about boxing? The fights with Hopkins and Jones/Toney were not even in the same weight class. Bernard was just looking for big money fights. Mayweather hasnt had a meaningful fight since 135. He is just picking up belts. Where Hatton fought Kosta at 140. Mayweather is at 147 and is avoiding Marg. plain and simple. Biggest payday of his career and right in front of him and he is going for Spinks. Dela said no..Shane said no. should be seeing Mayweather vs Marg. period Mayweather cant hold Hopkins jock strap.
Still things you seem to not know about boxing to. You say hopkins was looking for bigmoney fights, anyone with a brain could see he wasn't going to get them at the middleweight for the first part of his carrer if it meant fighting someone who could beat him. After the trinidad fight warren and don king agreed a calzaghe v hopkins match for $3mill to take place in the USA; Hopkins went and asked for $6mill later on knowling pricing him self out of that fight. $3mill then surly would of been the biggest purse of his carrer to that date, after his next to fights took place in PA? fighting people for small amounts of money.. think one was under $1mill...
People talk about hopkins as if he is this amazing fighter who beat some of the best fighters he could... Looking back at his record i see 2 names that should be respectable wins... Johnson and tarvaer. Tito was never a middle weight and neither was ODLH, no matter how great they were below that weight hopkins was always going to beat them at middle. Glencoffe was a good fight for hopkins to win, so was tarver, although i think he was way overrated...
It's funny how so many seemd to be duped in the "wow hopkins took on those guys at his age" (jaoylor and tarver) it is more a case of he took them on BECAUSE he was that age. I think it is well known he was after one thinkg, money... yes yes i am well aware that he i said about him not taking the calzaghe fight for $3m or he never moved up. He stayed put knowing full well he could stay at middle and go on without any realy danger to him self lossing for years and make themoney to the later stage of his carrer.. and thats what happend.. a mega pay-day for ODLH fight, $3mill for freaking easterman fight! and god only knows how much for the taylor fights and tarver.. but imo he took the last 3 fights knowing win or losse the excuse of his age was there and it would not harm his legacy one bit, more so improve it..
Now don't get me wrong, i am not a hopkins hater, i am a some what fan.. but that doesn't mean i have to delude my self into seeing something that isn't really there.
did judah go down? i don't remember that one too well, accept for the part where judah was running around grabbing baldy's legs haha.
He made up some new dance moves in the 7th, too.
Mayweather does get hated on alot, that goes along with perceived invincibility. I for one am just impatient. Mayweather is the man, there is no getting around that. I just want to know who he is fighting next, and he isn't giving me an answer fast enough. I am impatient in these issues, I need to know NOW. I have been very disappointed in the last 3 years at his choice of opponents. Mayweather needs to announce a fight against credible opposition soon, and not later.

No, he was rocked bad in the 7th, and ran for dear life, but was never dropped.
Hence a bit of controversy, because the judges seemed to give Baldy the 10-8.
Nah. 8-4 eeeeeasy.

yeah..he opted to fight PBF ..then lost a portion of his purse for being and idiot..again
Im aware he is a punk ass.
But I think he should have erased the baldy loss before the Floyd fight.
Would have made it alot more marketable.
thanks.
:)
oh shit you guys were talking about judah vs baldy being a draw? ok that seems legit, since i had him winning the first six as well. i thought you were talking about floyd vs judah haha.
Nah. 8-4 eeeeeasy.
agreed, good post carlton
thanks.
:)

he kicked his ass in the 7th round and won the fight. he didn't dominate but he won his rounds more impressively than Judah did. you're right about the draw, which is how I scored it because I don't score 10-8 without a knockdown. but still, Baldomir beat Judah up.
Yeah but Baldomir is in no rush to give Zab a rematch.
Judah would work him.
LOLOLOLOL, what fight were you watching...yeah it was close. but he hurt Judah at one point. Judah looked horrible...against a journey man who he hit before the bell rang when they were supposed to be touching gloves...JOKE.
Judah won the first 6 rounds, baldomir the last six.
And ok, he hurt Judah...????
Do you have a point here???
And I know Judah is a punk.
Kick Judah's ass?
Did you see the fight???
It was extremly close and probably should have been scored a draw.
