Cotto have power but didn not tested in front of iron chined fighter but Gatti did test it
So cant really tell .
But I could tell the Gatti does not discourage in hitting harder when he is hurt
Cotto fighting Gatti is going to be hard for me. As a huge fan of both I really dont want to see either of them lose. Oh well, Gatti still has to get by Baldy first. I dont think he's going to be a push over by any means.
agree
i just don't see baldy hangin wiht gatti when they trade
baldi's pnches are just awkward anyhow
he pushes them
in baldy's 57 fight career, he has ended 12 by KO, none over credible opponents.
baldy's chin, on the other hand, is pretty damn sturdy from what i hear. i see gatti winning, no doubt. either by UD or late round TKO.
cuz who the hell wants baldy to have a title?!

i think gatti hits harder, but cotto hits better. while gatti can knock you out with one punch, cotto can (and does) break you down and then knocks you out with a combination.
both fighters hit like hell and both throw very good combinations, and both can stop you with one punch (usually a left hook for both fighters, but gatti has the better right).
but i think gatti has more power. cotto doesnt have as much power, but hes more adept at delivering it.
but if i was gonna take a guess at it
this would be it
I think Cotto does personally......I would not really know though neither of them have hit me yet. :D
while raesaad was just joking- he's actually right
our opinions to these answers are merely hypothesis fueled by anecdotal evidence from viewing thee fights
to truly know the answer we would need
a triangulation of research
quanitative- some type of equipment to test the impact velocity of there punches
and
qualitative- interpretations from opponents - common ones being the most valid

If they both punched a meter with a left hook, I'd say Gatti.
But Gatti is not as accurate or consistent as Cotto is.
i agree. Gatti tends to swing wildly sometimes but if he connects on the button chances are your going down.
Cotto is a very precise accurate puncher but tends to where his opponents down rather than knock them out.
I completely agree. Same with a certain fighter by the name of Margarito.thats why I don't like Margarito, he should really be a jr. middleweight or middleweight.
Gatti hits harder than Cotto? Not sure about that, never seen Gatti KO anybody with a shoulder shot. Gatti's biggest KO was against Joey Gamache, Gatti put him to sleep in the 1st rd. Fight was at 140, both made weight, Gatti showed up at 160, nearly killed the poor bastard, and I didn't hear anybody complaining about Gatti's weight advantage.
Gatti has more natural KO power, Cotto is huge @ 140 so his punches just sap the energy out of his opponents. I need to see what Cotto can do at his natural weight of 147.

Cotto has show his tuffness too though, the shots Torres was landing on him were pretty brutal, Cotto showed he's got heart.
As for who hits harder, i'd say Cotto. I think Gatti's punches look harder then they really are, not to say they're not hard. In the 2nd round of his fight with De La Hoya Gatti landed a perfect left hook that snapped De La Hoya's kneck yet he didnt looked fazed at all.
Oh, I'm not saying he isn't tough I just wanted to balance my arguement so that critics would'nt just say I was a Cotto nuthugger. Personally I would put my money on Cotto versus anyone at 147lbs with the exception of Mayweather or Zab. I think a slick boxer with enough pop to make Cotto respect them when Cotto cuts off the ring would be Cotto's biggest challenge.

One punch knockout power, of course Gatti.
Whats unique about Cotto is he uses his power to completely break down his opponent. I don't know who would win if they fought, maybe it will happen if Gatti beats Baldomir. That would be a good matchup.
I got to give it to Cotto. Look at what he did to Paulie M. and he was known as a boxer-type. If his face looked like that imagine if had a brawler like Mickey Ward in front of him.

But to be fair, I'm not sure if Cotto would've still been on his feet if he took as many power shots as Gatti did in those fights.
