alot of ppl dont know..but losing 30-40 pounds in a 6-8 week time spend then getting in the ring for a boxing match and really ruin u (roy jones) and i think vargas is having that issue..evnethough i think the steriods and back problem detered his speed a little bit..he looked better vs castelljo and joval i know he cant beat taylor or wright..but i actually think he still could be a solid contender @ 160
vargas' chin is soft, his power is gone, his back is in bad shape, his career is going nowhere, and he is having problems making weight.
vargas should just hang em up.
man bro, thats a little harsh dont you think? He's not the fighter he once was but fought the 2 best guys in Tito and Oscar
and kept it a competitive fight till the end. I wont count Mosely because it's obvious it wasnt the Ferocious Fernando that fought Tito and Oscar. I just thought you were being a little harsh bro.
harsh, but true-
hey look i had my hopes that it would be mosely who was goona age in the ring but that wasn't the case
i wanted vargas to win so he could fight margarito, get his ass kicked by taylor, or have a shit talkin showdown with mayorga one day
but lets face it if a new potential fan is exposed to a guy they billed as "ferocious" and then sees him fight like that i doubt we will gain a fan (except for the brutal ko which may have retained some)
he's taking time slots up with his mouth and fan following that could've been used on someone that actually has the physical capabilites for fighting still
he did well, he sold alot of tickets, and made alot of money, fought in some wars, and deserves respect for that
but he is well past done
Vargas needs to move up to a weight where his new ungodly slowness would be less of a handicap, but of course he can't because his chin is so fragile.
It's a Catch-22. It's probably retirement time.
And I must say, I'm not exactly sad to see him go. He was fun to watch talk a lot of shit and then get beat down, though. But at the same time, it'd be nice to see him go, and go out with a embarassing loss as a bonus.
Dino, Hi There!

No excuses, he is DONE!
For a professional boxer, boxing is his 9 to 5 job. If you are not OK to work, stay home. As plain as that.
That is the question. Personally, I think he has looked more and more lethargic, not to mention weaker and weaker relatively speaking, as he has gone up in weight. I think he's through....
I think Trinidad really finished him much like he did David Reid. Remember his return fight after against soft punching Wilfredo Rivera. Vargas got knocked down in the 2nd and almost finished.
vargas look old and stiff in the fight (even thoguth i thought he would not and win)
he needs to retire before any future potential fans see him fight and wintess an inflexible shit talker get his ass whipped again.
these potential fans probably won't be impressed as they witness a "never was" who talks like he's a world class fighter
without the background knowledge of Vargas' past that we have, they may buy into his bs and then see him perform stiff, and unaggressive. Therefore, reducing the possibility that they will become a fan of boxing.

He gave Tito the fight of his life at 22 years of age.
Yeah and imagine if 1) Trinidad doesn't pull one of the most genius but dirty moves I've ever seen (the low blow) or 2) Vargas' handlers don't let him fight Tito until he is actually ready. In boxing, mismanagement can be a fighter's worst enemy.
how many beatings will vargas have to take before everyone realizes that he never was really all that good in the first place? vargas shouldnt even be a recognizable fighter.

Vargas is done. his been going down hill since the beating he got from Tito. vargas has gotten slower and his reation time isnt there anymore, time to hang it up before he suffers from permanent damage.

quit the hatin please. Yah he's taken beatings in the past only because he's fought top level opposition and fighting them at a tender young age. Alot of other issues have contributed to his demise but to say he shouldnt be recognized as a fighter is bullshit. He was all about fighting and heart and fans came to see him because he came to fight every night.
its not hating. its true
Vargas was exposed by Tito and his career, for all intents and purposes, was ended that night.
Prior to Tito Vargas shoed some real potential, but he took a brutal beating in that fight and it scarred him both physically and mentally. It's a shame, too, because the potential was there to beat Tito. He just fought the wrong fight that night and forever changed the course of his boxing career.
i totally agree... he fought Tito when he was 22~23 years old. what kind of management team would put a 22 year old kid with a elite fighter like Tito?

Right on. He may be done now as an elite fighter, but he gave it his all and ducked nobody. If he had been managed more carefully like too many fighters today, he might be mentioned in the same class as Mosley, Vargas, and Tito. Management is an underrated part of the game.

Yeah unforunately I think he is shot. It's not how many times he lost, but the devastating fashion in which he lost. Most think his career ended after the Trinidad fight, and while I agree that this fight changed him permanently (for the worse), I think the DLH fight sealed his fate. He invested so much in the fight emotionally and physically, after he lost it was over. Even if he could recover physically his mind is done.
