July 15, 2006
FF: Emanuel, FightFan.com has learned Vivian Harris had his scheduled opponent (Mike Arnaoutis) pull out of their July 29th HBO date due to injury. That is two weeks away. I understand you are very eager to step in and fight Harris on short notice…
AE: Most definitely. I am most definitely available. The last time I was on HBO (as far as he and I are both concerned) I gave Floyd Mayweather his toughest fight to date. That fight was another one where I had two, maybe three weeks to prepare. I gave it everything I could and I feel like it was cut short because my corner stopped the fight. I’m still very upset about that and feel like my chance was taken away from me. But I feel like I have more to give and another chance to get on HBO to fight a real strong guy is another opportunity for me to get to where I want to be. To fight on HBO would be a big opportunity for me, and to win on HBO would be even better.
FF: Emanuel July 29th is two weeks away. Are you ready to go if you got the green light?
AE: Man I stay ready to go. Haven’t you been listening to me? I was born ready. This is me, this is my livelihood and my profession. This is what I do. I don’t do nothing else but box. I stay ready to go. Like I said when I fought Mayweather I had less than three weeks notice. Fighting at the last minute seems to be my forte.
Sometimes it feels like the only way people will fight me is if I’ve only got a week or two to get ready for them. Guys feel like that benefits them. They’re not calling me to win, they’re calling me to lose. They call me right at the last minute, but everyone knows I stay dangerous. They can call with three days notice and I’ll be ready to fight. Anytime I have a chance to step in, it’s an opportunity for me and I’ve got to jump on it. Earlier this year I had chicken pox but a fight came up so I jumped on it. I can’t let none of these fights pass me by.
FF: Emanuel HBO seems they may have reservations about your record. Can you comment on that?
AE: I think of it like this: If they have reservations about my record, that should mean if I get this fight he’d make short work of me. They aught to leave that record thing alone considering the Mayweather fight, considering all the fight of the year type fights I’ve been in, and considering all the so called great fighters I’ve hung in there with. That record issue thing needs to be thrown out the window as far as I’m concerned. My record doesn’t define me. I’ve been fighting everybody out there and I’ll fight anyone. Very few guys have actually beat me. I’m talking me at my best, them at their best. I ain’t never been slept. Nobody ever hit me to the head and put me to sleep. Nobody.
All they got to do is say Augustus, here’s your chance. And watch me run with it!
FF: I know you’re a humble guy, so I’ll say it and put it like this: Emanuel Augustus stepping in to fight Vivian Harris on HBO on July 29th is the best fight for the fans considering the situation, and bottom line, it will bring more viewers to HBO because people love to see you fight.
AE: I think it is a good thing for HBO. And when people see that Vivian Harris is going to fight someone like me… I mean no offense to him but I ain’t head a lot about him lately. I’m in Ring magazine and KO magazine. The way I see it he needs me as much as I need him. He needs a quality fight and someone that everyone knows. Everybody knows me. People know that when Emanuel Augustus gets in the ring, you might get some clowning or whatever you want to call it, but you’re also going to get a fight! Call me a fighting clown. I’ll make a balloon and bust it on you!
Tell HBO and Vivian Harris that out of all the fighters out there to step in for this fight, I think fighting me would make for the best fight for him and the fans on HBO. I’m somebody who’s got talent and skills and I ain’t going to easily lay down. He’s been in the gym training for this fight, I’ve been in the gym waiting on a fight. He knew when he was going to fight and I never knew when I’d be fighting. He’s got the advantage there and he’s got the height and the reach. That’s enough for me to take it and I’ll come out with the ‘W’ in the end.
FF: Emanuel thanks for catching up with FightFan.com and we’ll try to get the word out so that anyone who wants to see you get this fight will holler at HBO. If enough people are calling for it maybe we’ll see it happen.
AE: Hey, cool man. I appreciate that.

I really don't see the argument for those going out of their way to be pissy about him getting this shot.
Once again, there isnt' much to 'deserving' a fight on two weeks notice.
You can't say Augustus is so undeserving of stepping in and then get excited that Lovemore Ndou is.
Augustus draws huge on ESPN, and when HBO is sitting without an opponent for a card that's less than two weeks away, putting Augustus in that slot is going to draw viewers to watch their card.
:boxing:
i believe micky ward holds the official record for that with twenty-something espn televised fights.
If that's true it's close, because I remember Teddy making the comment during Augustus' last fight.
Agustus is a fucking joke. He has no respect for boxing. Look at the clip
so true. Augustus is as delusional as anyone in the game
yeah, keep believeing that.
Augustus has been on more ESPN televised cards than any other fighter

Rick just spoke with someone from DiBella's office who said "HBO" does not want to give Augustus any televised fights because they feel that he is not a marketable enough opponent for their program.

There's a reason for that.

Why in the world would HBO give a main event slot to a guy that has 27 losses and is only 31 years old.
I can't wait until HBO sends a lawsuit threat to the website posting Ross' office number all over the place.

thats funny cause they arent even in on weekends AND its past their hours AND if u call the other # they give u all u get is a machine. I need a little more proof before i can believe that
Seeing as how Rick is friends with Lou Dibella and people in his office, including the fact that he has their personal cell and home numbers, he can reach them at any time. Rick is also created the Leavander Johnson website www.leavanderjohnson.com website after Johnson died for DiBella Inc. and hosts it for DBE on our server.

nice come back...lol

thanks for the info. :)
but that news fucking sucks!!!!
espn has been fairly good to him. maybe they can get another ppv together with 4 decent fights.
thanx again.

That's not the PR number
well, maybe it would do some justice to post the PR number for the peoples who want to call in and relay thier thoughts. thanx.
Not really, any decnet business has a "public relationships" phone number and a number by which they conduct business, also any decent business got an answering machine(with options, press 1 blah0blah blah). We all went through this routine more then once did not we.
That's not the PR number.
He almost got the hatton fight, and u can bet ur ass that fight was gonna be a main event on HBO. why not get a fight against a much lesser regarded fighter for a main event. I doubt they will consider his record much. HBO knows that most of their viewers are hardcore fans that know all about Augustus
well, i hope they do. however, the game is all business, even with the fighters these days.
augustus deserves a good payday and a chance to show what he can do. i feel he doesn't get really hyped fighting some of the guys he's fought in the last few years. and i'm not even going to go into how many times he's been robbed - he should be in the guinness book of records for that.
yeah, us in the know, know about augustus, but younger people likely just look up his record and dismiss him like he's not a damn fine boxer or a threat to anyone.
how the hell is that harrasment. no disrespect, but that makes no sense to me. How can posting public information on a website be considered illegal.
Why u doin this man? ur discouraging people from calling. why?
If u wanna see the fight, u should call the #, if u dont then u shouldnt say anything
Because the site has a wrong relationship with HBO and we were told to remove it the first time.
With your logic, I should post your office number if it's in the phone book and tell everyone to call. When your office gets bombarded with enough calls that business calls cant get through and you have to unplug the phone - which affects your business in the process, watch the lawsuits begin.
