PACQUIAO POUND FOR POUND KING, GUESS WHO IS #2?
11 July, 2006 by Cliff Rold
FIRST EVER “24-KARAT” POUND FOR POUND LIST!
I have to be honest. I hate the whole concept of a pound for pound list. Under the modern standard the man who the concept originated with, Sugar Ray Robinson, would have been moved in and out of the list for years because he had the audacity to fight top competition and lose occasionally. In my opinion, no one should carry the label ‘pound for pound” until they retire. After all, look at where Azumah Nelson was ranked most of his career versus how he is regarded in retrospect. That, however, is not the state of modern boxing. Let’s face it; fans like lists and as part of the growing debate over Floyd Mayweather, I shouldn’t criticize without a list of my own.
THE TEN BEST FIGHTERS IN THE WORLD REGARDLESS OF WEIGHT!
It’s going to take until about number two for the questions of “Are you kidding?” to start rolling in, but this is why I’m right: I’ve actually seen every fighter on my list and every active titlist in the game at least once which is more than almost any journalist in the United States can say….and that ain’t bragging. It’s gospel. My criteria is simple: if you fight the best guys around, win most of the time, and are always in the fight by a point or two, you get props because that will be a reflection of your total and recent career. I don’t reward highlight reels, hip-hop credibility or exhibition bouts but I will reward my own opinions and hunches. If you’re the best, you’ve been proving it.
1.
Manny Pacquiao (42-3-2, 33 KO’S)

Yes, a taller, more muscular Pac still loses to PBF. Floyd has the best reflexes in boxing. While Pac is fast, Floyd would duck under those wide lefts that Pac relies on and counter with beautiful combinations all night long.
easier said than done. although i'd give pbf the win, he won't dominate and he'll have some scary rounds himself.
You mean a taller, heavier version of Pac with more muscles at maybe 147lbs.? I'm so scared. My skill better be magic..

Anywho, regardless of weight, if you make a fight between someone with Pac's skills and someone with PBF's skills, the guy with PBF's skills would win at any weight therefore making him the better P4P fighter.

lolz... really? at least they recognized Pac as the #1. :D

Mayweather loses at 126. ;)
:D
You really think so? When was the last time Mayweather fought at 126 pounds? When he was an amateur? Floyd is too tall for 126. I think his best weight is 140, actually.

Since they both fought at 130, it's the natural place to pit them against each other. Pac's best weight is 126, IMHO. He's good at 130 but he'd wipe the map at 126.
However, I still think that the best Pac, the one who assassinated the baby assassin, would still lose to the Mayweather who beat Chico, Genaro Hernandez, and Jesus Chavez.
PAC vs PBF at 130 I think would be 50/50
Mayweather would murder pack at 135
Most of these sites are only putting Pac as number one in order to suck up to Pinoy users in order to get an extra kick of traffic. You go to some websites and they have more articles about Pacquiao than Philboxing, it's pretty obvious what they are trying to do.
LOL, as much I hate to admit, I agree. Even some respected writers from major boxing websites have joined Pacland(Manny Pacquiao's official website) to promote their articles and interviews to Pinoy users to gain traffic. Manny's website is the busiest boxing website for any particular fighter, and that speaks volumes.
Hmmn...no wonder Pinoy Lounge was created in the front page :D
IMO PBF is still #1 but PAC is catching up very fast.
if PBF doesnt fight and beat any of these fighters this year. (some might not be available but thats the way it goes)
Margarito
Mosley
Cotto
Hatton
DLH
+ a win by PAC over EM. PAC should be #1
BTW these 3 boxing sites thinks PAC is already #1

Ok, p4p lists are about more than who would win at a given weight. Its also about accomplishment and personal views on the abilities of the fighters in question.
That said, even though I don't think PAC would beat Mayweather at 130, how about at 108, or 122 or 126? Why should the bout take place at Mayweathers best weight. I have Mayweather above Pacman because of the win vs Judah, who was a top opponent IMO. But if he doesn't beat another p4p top 25 opponent soon, he'll lose that spot on my list. I think the Pacman/morales bout does little to change things, Morales is done.

How in the world is Calzaghe not on that list? And Parra of all people is number 2. How is Pacquiao number one? How is Pacquiao and Parra above Winky Wright? Corrales above Castillo? I don't care what Castillo did at a weigh-in, he knocked Corrales the fuck out and Corrales has not fought since who knows when. Barrera above Mayweather? A retired Hopkins should not even be on the list.
1. because he thinks PAC is better than PBF lb 4 lb
2. because he thinks PAC and Parra is better than Winky lb 4 lb
-----
lb 4 lb is all about opinion, and IMO :D his opinion is within range :D
plus he's not alone

This man is far from delusional. I kind of know Cliff from other boxing websites. You just need to let him grow on you. Instead of assuming he is crazy, it would be fair to hold your opinion until you see Parra. Morel was a VERY good fighter who WAS cracking SOME people's to 10 p4p list. Therefore this Parra kid might have something special. We should reserve judgement until we have seen what Cliff has seen.
As for PBF's resume, it was very good from 130-135. Recently it has not been. There's only so long you can stagnate and expect to remain number 1.
I have seen Para, one fight and a few clips, and yes, he is impressive.
HOWEVER, having him number 2 on your p4p list and having Floyd number 6 is delusional.
Its that simple.
However, if he admitted that he had Para at 2 and Floyd at 6 just to make a statement, than I can understand that.
However, these are his actual p4p rankings.
Hence me calling him delusional.

The JMM fight was a while back, and Pac has obviously improved since then. Furthermore, you are not taking into consideration that this is a p4p mythical matchup, meaning Pac would be just as big as PBF for the fight. That is a big factor.
I agree. PBF, you are always telling people not to overreact, but that's exactly what you are doing right now. It's not like you. You should respect his opinion as a man who's seen fights around the globe. If you question his list, you can do it much more politely. No need to attack him the way you did. Ya dig?
Considering Pacquiao's recent resume, it is very defendable to have him at number 1. Of course PBF dominated his opponets; that's what was supposed to do. But he wasn't beating the caliber of fighters that Pac has.
Weight wise, yes, but not height and reach wise.
I respect the opinions of almost every poster on this board, but this guy is just so delusional and so fustrating in the way he writes and argues, that I cant help but overreact.
But he has fought those caliber of fighters throughout his entire career and still remained at the top.
That too is a big factor.
i guess you stopped watching boxing after 2004?
I havent seen Pac look particulalry effective against a true boxer.
Although his wins have been quite impressive.

This is what is wrong with hero worship...I give Floyd credit as WORLD champ at 130, which is debateable to some because he didn't face Freitas and Casa...I think Corrales was enough. And I say in a P4P sense Floyd-Parra is a great fight (not that Floyd would get whooped or blown out) and that's a bad thing for you. I cite Castillo to point out that Floyd CAN be challenged. On my list, any fighter who won a legit lineal title gets props for that and has other belts listed as alphabet. I did the same for Pac. Keep coming. I'm starting to make you look bad.

Whos that?
Torrecampo - 1 hit( jaw or body shot )
Medgeon - Body shot. ( dehydrated himself but still came in @ 113 )
He wasnt dominated. he lost...
IN YOUR OPINION PBF WILL DOMINATE PAC
IN MY OPINION PBF WILL NOT DOMITE PAC ( I think he will win though)
But lb 4 lb
--- This is not reality just pure imagination as in Floyd will definately beat Antonio Tarver 100 out of 100 fights ---
PAC can beat PBF - if we negate size PBF cant take PAC best comb
I was referring to Medgeon, where he lost the preceeding rounds, but in the grand scheme, that unimportant.
But I didnt word what I was trying to say correctly.
I feel as though it would be a good, competitive fight, but Floyd would dominate on the SCORECARDS.
