a fighter who was never in great shape as a heavyweight becuase of his small stature but dominated top contenders and only lost to champions who towered him , was robbed against the gigantic lennox lewis in which lewis still proclaims today was his hardest fight of his life. was beat by larry holmes but holmes had a seven inch reach advantage and mercer best asset was his jab, i just coulndt see any cruiser weight beating him even now at 45 years old
muhammad ali could have made cruiserweight easier than ray mercer could have.
also, holyfield and moorer could have beaten him at easily at cruiser if he hypothetically were to destroy his body to make weight
I think Chris Byrd would've been an excellent cruiserweight. He would've had more power at that weight and he would've been as tall as almost any opponent he would face there.
I believe that Byrd is a natural cruiserweight that went to heavy.
he hit a heel of a lot harder then holyfieldand if they were the same size muscle wise mercer would knock him out that why im sayin at cruiser , mercer could of made 190 he was 28 when he turned pro
I don't think there's any way a younger Mercer would have made 190.
He was a Heavyweight in the Marines, and had huge legs.
I though he was in the Army?
Tommy was kicking Mercer's ass until then, but yeah Mercer was a great Fighter but i dont know if he could have been a crusierwight he won the olympic glod at a think around 201 lbs. so i dont know
All I know is.....he was a knockout specialist at his old age. When he was younger....he obviously was the better rounded fighter.
