i don't watch fights to hear the announcers i watch the fight. lampley, merchant and whoever they working at the time never influences who i think wins fights, so you can tell me winky won the fight until your face turns blue, i seen taylor winning the fight but i can accept a draw since it was a close fight.
I agree Taylor won that fight
K-DOGG is one of the most well informed boxing fans on these boards without a doubt, I wouldn't advise calling him confused...
I agree though, those two wins over Hopkins are what put him up, not his draw with Winky.
Thank you for the kind words. Sincerely.

Whatever man. Here's the conclusion I've come to:
Everybody agrees on one thing...that there were several very close rounds in the fight. Now, depending upon your disposistion and what you're looking for you gave those close rounds to one or the other. If you were impressed moreso with Taylor's power and the way he moved Winky around, even though Winky was blocking most of the shots....more than likely, you gave those rounds to Taylor. If you were watching HBO and bought into it everytime Jim Lamply peed his pants over a Taylor flurry....more than likely, you gave those rounds to Taylor. If you were looking for clean punches landed, ring generalship, effective aggression & defense...you gave those rounds to Wright.
Because of those close rounds and the desparity in public perception this fight could have been scored anywhere from a narrow victory for Taylor to a relatively easy win for Wright. So, the draw is logical, even though I wholeheartedly believe Wnky won the fight. You believe whatever you want.
wtf. your confused s0n. read this. then speak. o i see, u corrected your previous post. kool.

That's how Ring put it and I don't have anything against it. My point is #8, 9 and 10 should move up one slot and Rafael Marquez who doesn't have any significant activity for the last 2 years should be moved back down to 10.
Yeah, i just wanted your opinions on why JLC should be above Calzaghe.
Personally id have Hatton at 7, Joe C at 8, Raf at 9 and castillo at 10.
not sure about Taylor making the top 5 (much less #4), but i agree with him at least being in the top 10..
If Winky is number 2, Taylor proved he is top 5, not only beating Hopkins twice, but drawing with Winky.
Should the have Hopkins above him??
Obviously not.
He is almost there by default.
I have only one problem with this list.
Hatton, Castillo and Calzaghe should be 7, 8 and 9 respectively and Rafael Marquez should be down at # 10.
Ring is updating this list according to the fighters recent fights and results, same question as before.
Who has Rafael Marquez fought in the last 2 years and what has he accomplished?
Why Castillo above Calzaghe?
Nope...working press...and the reporters on either side of me had comparable scores. You got to quit beliving it everytime Lampley gets excited.

Hey chill out on Taylor Dude. That's more of a bullshit than honest assestment. :p
Taylor already fought the #1 and #2 p4p fighters in his division and yet you don't feel he even belongs to the top 5?
In your opinion what does he needs to do? Fight all the bums and clowns to pad up his record from 25-0 to 50-0. A big joke. :D
No, I'd settle for him fighting and beating Abraham, who has a good resume, very impressively and maybe one other Top Ten middle, as long as it was an impressive performance.....that'd get him to 5.
if you been watching boxing for 20 years and you still think that winky won that fight hands down, thats not saying much about you, and if you were at the fight and think that winky won i hope you didn't pay for those nosebleed section seats.

I'm not confused about anything. I've been watching boxing for 20 years and Jermain Taylor DID NOT win that fight. He lost.

Honest assessment. The kid needs to do more to move up to the elite 5.

As of June 18, 2006
1. Floyd
2. Winky
3. Pac

5. Hopkins
6. MAB
7. Marquez(R)
8. Hatton
9. Castillo
10. Calzaghe
FYI
Good list, but id have Joe C over Castillo.
you already showed anger over Taylor beating Hopkins so your opinion on Taylor really doesn't count here
Where did I show anger over Taylor beating Hopkins??!!
Taylor did beat Hopkins in the first fight; I never said otherwise. I said Hopkins kicked his ass (dominated) him down the stretch. Do you deny this to be true?
I am as unbiased and analytical a poster or a person as you are going to find on this or any other website...BAR NONE. I call 'em like I see 'em. No more, no less.
Taylor's speed, power, and jab were also pretty sharp. Hops didn't really kick any ass in that fight. He got the better of it in the later rounds, but he never laid the kind of beating that he laid on Echols or Tito. Again, when has anyone looked great vs Hopkins? Bernard didn't start earlier because he couldn't. If he had, Taylor would have been right there with him, blow for blow. Hops knew he had to wait, and that's a credit to Taylor.
You may have had Winky beating Taylor with ease, but most people did not and many agreed with the draw. The criteria for becoming top 5 p4p is not looking impressive vs Hopkins or Wright. But if Taylor is considered to have fought on even terms with Hops/Winky (as most of the public thinks) then it logically follows that he should be ranked closely with them on the p4p list.
Well, I've been in the minority before, so this is nothing new...and I want to watch the fight again because of all this difference of opinion. I'm only worried now that I'll give too much credit to Taylor. There were several rounds that were very close, I'll admit; but I still don't see Taylor winning even if I gave him all the close ones.
Of course, what you say makes sense concerning the contituancy fo people's opinions and the fact that it was Hopkins and Wright and the fact that Taylor hung with Hopkins...a possibly dried out Hopkins judging by his activity level against Tarver, though Tarver was largly inactive and that could have contributed to B-Hop looking that good as oppossed to Taylor, who was very active in the early rounds of the first fight.
I don't know. I just know what I saw and how I scored and how shocked I was at the decision. I concede nothing other than you make good points, which are logical. Still, I feel Taylor needs to do more.
Leonard fought a tough fight with Benitez, who was a great fighter, and stopped him in the waning second of the 15th. He fought mano a mano with Roberto Duran and lost and then pysched out Manos de Piedras in the rematch...was losing to Thomas Hearns but sucked it up to win by TKO.
Hopkins earned his ranking through consitancy over time instead of sensationalism..until Trinidad.
De La Hoya showed his wares in 4 divisions.
Robinson dominated welterweight and kept coming back to win at Middelweight.
Do you see where I'm coming from with Taylor?
The kid's got talent gallore; but I consider the Top 5 the absolute best...and the kid hasn't shown me that, yet. I think eventually, he'll be #1; but I don't believe in ranking on potential or unimpressive showeings against top fighters....and he hasn't really impressed me yet at the top of the division.
I can agree with this list. I dont see anypoint in bitching here. Where was Tarver on this list before losing to Hopkins ?
Around 8-10 on most people's lists
