I just watched this fight again. It has been a long time since I watched it. Tyson really tore his ass up. Golota looked as if he had went 12 rounds and was only in there for 2 before he quit.
everybody thinks rooneys a savior but tyson skills were already deteriorating under rooney soon as cus died , i dont even think tyson was at his best when he was champion
Are you kidding me? Does Michael Spinks NOT ring a bell? I mean don't get me wrong, Cus' death defintely started the pathawy towards the destruction of Tyson's career, but you cannot deny that the win over Michael Spinks was the most impressive win he had at that point as he looked simply invincible. So invincible in fact that I think even Tyson himself brought into the hype, and stopped taking his career seriously at that point. I mean I do agree that Rooney was no savior, in fact he never produced another champion again. I am not sure what happened with Cus and his disciples but he didn't seem to teach them everything he knew when you look at both Kevin Rooney and Teddy Atlas.
After Tyson fired Kevin Rooney, he basically was training himself, and we all see how that turned out. I always felt that Tyson should have hired Eddie Futch after he got rid of Rooney, as Futch was one of the most knowledgeable guys in the sport at the time, plus early on in Tyson's career he was heavily compared to Joe Frazier so I think that would have been the prefect match for him.

Don't know if anyone remembered the post fight interview, but that was the most distrubring thing I've ever heard, it pretty much went like that.
I remember that well, I felt sorry for the guy but pissed at him for quiting. A real fighter will go until they can't get up anymore.
tyson shouldve trained himself that what fucked him up he changed trainers to much he shouldve just trained himself, he started throwing nothing but haymakers if he stayed dicaplined i wonder how long he would of lasted

Anytime u see tyson with the longer hair, which is post botha and before nielson, thats the old tyson that could fight, and he had good stamina there too. He got down to a good weight, although by the time he fought Neilson he was out of shape again and not focused on boxing.
Agreed, age seemed to have caught up with Tyson post-Golota like most mid thirties fighters with his style(i.e. Dempsey, Marciano, Frazier), as he never looked the same, but I thought he looked sharp in the Francis/Saverese/Golota fights. I was particularly impressed with his footwork and footspeed in the Francis fight as the way he moved in there just looked incredible. I also was impressed with his ferociousness as well as handspeed in the Saverese fight and then the composure he showed in the Golota fight. The problem is that Tyson took a year layoff for some reason after this fight, if he had been fighting 2-3 fights a year perhaps that would have helped him to preserve his career a bit better and also probably would have helped him to get out of debt quicker.
Imagine if Golota would have fought on and been seriously injured. I wonder how Tyson would react if he actually hurt someone like that in the ring.
I think he would have actully been sad. I heard that Golota had bleeding in his brain after the fight.

Golota had a fractured cheek bone, and it's impossible to know if it was the result of a punch or all the headbutts Tyson hit him with. Tyson did a great job in the first round, but the second round was all frustration for Tyson. Golota was doing a better job of boxing and Tyson headbutted him repeatedly when he got close. At one point you can actually see Tyson jerk his head up out of a crouch to hit Golota's chin, and when he misses, he rams his head forward and jumps up on his toes, which clearly puzzled Golota. I think if the fight had continued, one of them would have been DQ'd because as obvious as Tyson was being already that fight wasn't going much longer. I'm not trying to defend Golota, but that fight and the Tyson-Savarese fight get under my skin because I don't hear anybody talking about the negative things that Tyson does in the ring when they talk about those fights, they act like Tyson fought two perfect fights.
I never heard that. But I do know that shot he took in the first that dropped him, he didn't want no more of that. Did you guys see the look in Tysons eyes during that fight. I think he wanted to kill Golota. Even after Golota quit he wanted to go after him and had to be restrained by his corner. Tyson at that point and time was an animal. I don't think anybody could have beat Tyson on that night.
Tyson in 2000 was 222 lbs and ready to go for twelve rounds I am sure.
Lewis knew why he would wait for two more years (after the Nielsen fight at 239 lbs).
