Winky to face Calzaghe if he beats Taylor? That's what Dan Birmingham says...

FF: Hi Dan, thanks for doing this. How is Winky looking in camp? DB: He’s looking great. Looking tip top. FF: What kind of sparring has he been doing and who has he been working with? DB: We worked with Rico Hoye, Anthony Hanshaw, we worked with a kid we brought in from Colombia, a few others. He’s been getting some good rounds in. He was doing twelve rounds every other day three weeks ago. His conditioning is perfect. FF: What has he been working on that will be specific to the Taylor fight? DB: Really just being Winky. Dominating everyone with the jab, working the body when he’s on the inside, using his defense, showing angles, moving his head, using rhythm and feinting. FF: What weight does Winky walk around at when not in camp? Taylor’s got a few inches in height and reach on Winky, but is he walking into the ring the bigger man? DB: Winky walks around at about 180. I don’t think Taylor’s the bigger man. Everybody says Taylor is so big but when they did the WBC weigh in a few days ago Wink was 167 and Taylor was 168. Winky’s just as strong as Taylor and people will see. FF: The weigh in is tomorrow, what’s Winky at now? DB: Winky’s weighing 161 as of today, so we’re fine. Winky has no trouble making 160 with the diet and all. We’ve been training hard for this fight in the Nevada mountains. FF: As a southpaw, tell us what Winky needs to do against a big orthodox middleweight like Jermain who fights from behind that jab? DB: We dominate with the jab. Everything comes off the jab. Doubling the jab, throwing the left hand in, feinting, going to the body when it’s there. Being first, being last…. FF: If this turns in to a battle of the jabs, who wins and why? DB: Winky. No doubt about it. He’s a master of distance and timing. FF: As a southpaw, is there an advantage there in that case? DB: Anytime you have a south paw that can box, there’s an advantage because of the angle it presents. It’s not just the fact that Winky’s a southpaw, Winky’s a great fighter. Period. FF: Not asking you to look past this fight, but if Winky is victorious? What would you like to see him do after this fight? Stay at middleweight? A move up? DB: I think there’s a fight with Calzaghe looming from what Gary Shaw was talking about. FF: What are your thoughts on that style match up for Winky? Is it a good fightfor him. DB: Yea, sure. I’d like to see some get back for Jeff (Lacy). FF: All in all, you’re feeling pretty confident about Saturday night? DB: Very confident. We’re feeling supremely confident.
