Did you guys really buy into the hype of this guys as possibly being the best ever?? i remember way back that everyone was saying that.I admit i thought he was fantastic but not greatest ever.what do you think of when you hear prime Roy Jones?
Either way.
Don't act suprised if Roy loses to Ajamu. I also won't be thrilled if he does in fact eek out a decision, because then he's more than likely going to recieve the false sense of security that he's still the best.
He's not, and that's that.
He was on the canvas for over 5 minutes against a total Journeyman in Johnson. That's not Roy, never was, never will be.
A shell of Roy Jones Jr.
Well he'll know whether his career is over or not when the time comes, but for now he still has faith in what he has left in him and I can respect someone like Roy Jones Jr who was knocked down in the art of the sweet science and he has the heart to get back up to shine again.
Well I hope to see different then what you said coming july..i'm going to buy this ppv no doubt.

It's over.
Roy should have retired when he lost to Johnson by Knockout. He's a shell of the great fighter he was, and doesn't have the relexes and quickness he once had that allowed him to be elusive.
He's not a brawler, and never was, and doesn't have the kind of power you need to be successful at an older age. Seeing as how Power is the last thing you lose.
Roy is easily one of the greatest fighters of all time, and he is the greatest single fighter I've ever seen in the ring during the time I started watching boxing.

I have plenty of faith in Roy Jones and his return to the ring, but what do you guys think after seeing this?

Shit honestly a PRIME ROY would have in my eyes beat anyone in his weigth class ever the guy was to fast, and strong for any MW, SMW, LH that ive ever seen and thats my opinion!
I agree that Jones incredible talent did manage to come back & bite him in the ass....at the end.
But, shit, he was untouchable for what seemed like forever.
I agree, he was able to do things that I have never thought could be done versus TOP NOTCH competition. He was truly untouchable and people forget how powerful Roy was at 160 and 168lbs, his KO % at 168lbs is over 90%.

Yes, I believe he had much more raw physical talent than James Toney. James Toney however is one of the slickest most fundamentally sound fighters I have ever seen. Even with his added girth and fighting predominantly flat foot he is STILL extremely hard to hit flush. JT defensive skills, counters and close in fighting is beautiful to behold, pure and simple. This is especially true when he was at the lower weights and was not so flat footed and had better waist movement.
If you're referring to posts on this forum and others, or sentiments of people on the internet:
You'd more than likely read statements like that.
Primarily because most of the kids on these forums first saw Roy fight against Tarver.
They don't know, and have no clue of, how dominant he was.
They just don't have a grasp because they didin't watch him fight, and saw him get knocked out when he was washed up.
That's common. So then comes the: LOOK WHAT TARVER DID TO ROY OMG LOLZ!!!!111 NO WONDER ROY WAS DUCKING DM, HE WOULD HAVE GOT KTFO LOZRS!.
I've had it with the eigth graders hating on Roy.
Fuck Yes.
^ Oh man, i've noticed that a lot on these forums...
It's the same as me telling my father that Leonard was garbage because he lost to Terry Norris ( hypothetical, didn't happen)...
I wasn't around for Leonards greatness and no matter how many vids I might have watched on ESPN classic, I don't truely know his dominance throughout his career...
I was around and watching the sport since Jones made his first impact...
a 16-17 year old kid will judge Roy on his fight w/ Johnson & Tarver...If you're around 24 and up then you judge Roy based on his destruction of everyone from his middleweight days on up...
Be sure to make the distinction between Gifted and Talented.
Roy obviously was the most gifted figher of all time maybe.....but I do think he was more talented than Toney.
He was a quick, lethal counterpuncher.

To me he's alot more talented and his more of the instincts than Toney. On my score card he won every single round against Toney when they fought. Jones is one of the craftiest fighters i've ever seen with how he boxed Toney, when he did the chicken move and Toney mocked him and got caught with all those hooks and knocked down.
I'm glad atleast Diego isn't coming in here and whining and complaining about Roy Jones this Roy Jones that. I really don't think Tarver was that much better than Jones. I'll repeat myself again and it probably wont be the last time, but when Tarver knocked out Jones I looked at it like a lucky punch..I mean he had his eyes closed..
There are far too many people out there who think he'd have beaten Jones.

I agree with the previous poster who said Roy Jones is the Most Talented Fighter I have ever seen and is a great fighter, but he is not the best. Once Roy lost that Razors edge in physical talent he didn't have the technical skills to continue to be succesful even though he was still as talented as any but he was no longer superman.
Hopkins, Ali and even James Toney are examples of guys who have evolved there technical skills when they saw that they could no longer win fights based on there pure superior talent.
For this reason I think its hard to gauge where Roy will stand on all-time list.

Ah, Roy Jones was my favorite boxer when I first got into the sport...
Undeniable talent...
These fighters come around once in a blue moon...and IMHO....Mayweather is that type of fighter also...
Complete package that makes it seem like they're completly unbeatable..
give roy jones was credit..he's the only guy in the history of boxing to arguable NOT LOSE A ROUND in over a decade
He never lost a single round in the Olympics in Seoul Korea until he fought Park Si Hun, which he won every single round, but was robbed of the gold medal..

So what.
Roy would have totally demolished the Gman given they fought in 95. He was nowhere near his level as a fighter.
Nunn this, Mclellan this, Nigel Benn that, Michaelsveski this.
All bums compared to Roy.....the whole lot.
I was a McClellan fan. He truly was a mammoth puncher, who had skills, & was as intimidating a fighter as I have ever seen.
But.....
There are far too many people out there who think he'd have beaten Jones.
He'd have been beaten very, very easily by Jones. Especially considering how, by the time he faced Benn, he had completely chucked the boxing skills he had out the window.
He was too predictable to effect Roy Jones.......& he would have been smacked around by Roy.
