Boxing is supposed to be scored on "effective" aggressiveness...not just aggressiveness. If you throw a lot of punches, that's great; but if you don't land any, it's as effective as pushing agaainst a wall: you expend a lot of energy; but get no work done.

Winky Wright won that fight, end of story.
I had it 117-112 or in rounds, 8-3-1; yes, one or two rounds early on could have gone either way, but not enough to make a difference. Taylor was very active in the beginning, as he was with Hopkins; but landed only about 1 in 7 punches, due to Winky's high guard and excellent defence. Boxing is supposed to be scored on "effective" aggressiveness...not just aggressiveness. True, Jermain was strong enough that on several occasions Winky's whole body would move from the foce of the blow that landed on his glove; but, in the end, Jermain didn't do enough to win or even earn a draw, IMO.
Winky began pressureing Taylor into corners as early as round 2, where Jermain was looking to counter or time him with a right hand coming in; but while Jermain was looking for the opening, Winky was tattooing his left eye with that right jab and was landing it as evidenced by the fact that Taylor's left eye was swollen completely shut by the end of the match....and don't give me that head-butt B.S. In addition, in the 8th...I believe it was the 8th...Winky had Taylor in serious trouble and if he had applied more pressure, could have dropped and potentially stopped Taylor.
Winky completely dominated the fight with the exception of a couple of rounds here and there...particularly the first four, where it was nip and tuck. However, even in those first four, Winky was blocking most of Taylor's shots where Jermain seemed to be under the impression that if he blocked a shot, he would hurt Winky's feelings.
You can't win a fight laying in the corners and taking a beating for 2/3's of the round and rallying occassionally to the cheers of your hometown fans....that's not boxing.
Winky landed 226 punches to 163 for Taylor/ 103 jabs to Taylor's 41, dictated the pace, and showed more effective aggression and ring generalship. Taylor fought not to lose while Winky fought to win.
Wright got screwed.
Nuff Said.
Batty boy ting mon.
You called it. Jerk. You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to !! Anorak again.
That fight was fucking awesome. I thought Winky was going to get the decision after the 12th round. Oh well, all that matters is that the fight was fantastic, there was a draw, but all boxing fans that watched that fight won.
Wright is a very sore "loser" even though he got a draw. I was wondering why the hell he would raise his hands after every round as if he won each one. Very odd. Anyway, Wright says he doesn't want the rematch, which provides some good insight that he knows he would lose once Taylor corrects a thing or two...LIKE STAYING OFF THE ROPES. Taylor had this fight in the center of the ring. He was killing Wright with those rights through the gloves.
Stop Hating, Guys!!!!!!
This is long but intersting ;)
Whats with all the hate either way? This was a great fight. Right now it is easily fight of the year and for awhile I thought it was a All Time Great Fight until Winky clowned at the end.
Im going to take it back to the begining, even before the fight. Winky came out in a suit like this is all business. That shit got me so hyped. Then Taylor came out to that tight music and that got me hyped.
Then the whole time they were in the ring and intros, I was just so hyped. I mean it all hit me. I was telling everyone in my house that "this is a big time fuckin fight. You dont never see no shit like this on regular TV no more". I mean, I couldnt believe it wasnt on PPV.
Then the fight got started and one second I would be like, "Winky is a straight up beast and no one can fuck with him", then the very next second I would be like, "Taylor is a big, strong, bad Motha Fucka".
The whole fight was like that. I dont think no one can criticize either fighter or talk about the decision because this was one of the hardest fights I ever had to score in my life. At the end of nearly every round I was like, "I dont even know who won it". There style was so different and they both did differnet things well. Almost every round couldve went either way.
Winky is a beast and I loved the way he came in with the bigger, stronger guy and walked him down the whole fight. That shit got me so hyped. I was like, "He is basically bitching Taylor and telling him that you cant hurt me and everything you throw wont be enough and Im going to come straight back at you no matter what you throw". That shit had to be discouraging to Taylor.
It was clear for the most part that Taylor did well in the Center and Winky did well on the ropes so you had the commentators and alot of fans saying, "Taylor would win if he just stays off the ropes and how come he didnt listen to Manny".
Do you guys think Taylor wanted to stay on the ropes? He was on the ropes because Winky put constant pressure on him the whole fight. He had no where else to go because Winky always came forward. Another reason why the fight was hard to score was because alot of times in the early rounds and some later on, the crowd would go wild when Taylor punched but he was still hitting Winky's arm most of the time. Winky blocked alot of them.
On the flip side, Taylor is a genatic freak. He is still very uncoordinated but he makes up for it with pure raw talent and ability. Shit that you cant teach. It reminded me some of what Paulie said in the Cotto fight. Paulie said that, "even the shots that I blocked still hurt", because Cotto was so powerful. It was the same tonight. Winky blocked alot but they were still fucking him up and knocking him back. Thats how much force Taylor has. He would hit Winky's arm right back into his face so hard.
Also Manny & Taylor trained well on Winky's defense because he still shot alot of straight rights, straight down the pipe and hit Winky flush. Winky was smart and then would bring his arms together so close that they would close his face completly but by that time, Taylor would throw a hook and catch Winky on the side of the head.
Both guys were stunned a few times and I loved Taylor's courage at the end when his eye was shut but he kept fighting. Winky started getting him in the 10th because Taylor couldnt see anymore but then for some reason, he ran at the end.
I remember in the middle of the fight I told everyone in my house that, "this is some old school MiddleWeight shit. This fight looks like some shit in boxings glory years when the MiddleWeights were the glamor division behind the HW's and both of these fighters look like 2 all time greats". It just look like a great, hard nose, MiddleWeight fight and that it was on regular TV made it all the better. I cant hate on neither fighter after this.
Winky was kind of a sore drawer at the end but you cant listen to a fighter when he's emotional. Trust me that he would definatly take a rematch but I think the Taylor camp might want a soft guy 1st and then a rematch because that would be 4 tough, stressful, fights in a row for a young Champ but I think they will do it again in 4 months.
It was a great fight between 2 great fighters and it was great for boxing. Im not mad at either of them.
I'm stoked for this fight.
Not in the kind of way that we're in for an exciting fight. I'd say this is about appreciation first and foremost.
I've never respected Taylor, and there are too many people that don't respect Wink.
Someone is going to get some respect after this fight is done.

Has anyone else already said this, but is there an option for a draw? Could happen...
I dont see that happening, no matter who wins. Taylor appears to be in tremendous shape.
Winky will be lucky to leave the fight alive, let alone knocking out Taylor. Did you see how big he looks, winky better be scared.
I've just decided to take a highly unlikely guess in this fight, because I dont know who's going to win. It could go either way. I have not seen the weigh in pics yet.
