Seems like it has some solid guys & recognizable names on here but I was going to make a thread 2 weeks ago talking about how sick I am of the Contender. Was I the only one? I was sick of seeing all these ESPN shows featuring them and sick of seeing them fight eacother over & over again. Maybe since this is a new one then I can get back into it again.

Contender fighters named!
ESPN, Mark Burnett Productions and DreamWorks Television announced today the contestants for the second season of the critically acclaimed boxing series The Contender, which will debut Tuesday, July 18 with a two-hour season premiere on ESPN beginning at 10 p.m. ET. Each episode culminates in a five-round professional bout where the winner moves one step closer to the grand prize and a shot at the title of Contender Champion. The series will conclude with a finale from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Sept. 26 and aired live on ESPN. Boxing legend and five-time world champion Sugar Ray Leonard will serve as host and mentor. The sixteen welterweight boxers vying for this year’s title of "The Contender" include:
Nick Acevedo (15-1, 9 KOs)
Gary Balletto (29-2-2, 25 KOs)
Vinroy Barrett (21-4, 11 KOs)
Norberto Bravo (20-10-3, 12 KOs)
Grady Brewer (18-11, 12 KOs)
Cornelius Budrage (21-1, 13 KOs)
Rudy Cisneros (8-1, 7 KOs)
Michael Clark (35-3, 16 KOs)
Freddy Curiel (15-5-2, 6 KOs)
Andre Eason (15-4, 6 KOs)
Ebo Elder (22-2, 14 KOs)
Jeff Fraza (17-2, 10 KOs)
Steve Forbes (29-3, 9 KOs)
Micheal Stewart (38-4-2, 22 KOs)
Aaron Torres (14-2, 6 KOs)
Walter Wright (10-1, 5 KOs)
The Contender Season 2 trainers include Tommy Gallagher and Jeremy Williams.
Remembe that the first few fights are 4 rounds. Ebo is great when the pressure is on. That is why Alfonso did so well. He fights good for short sputs.
Some of these guys are 10/12 round guys. They fight slow methodical fights, like Manfredo, they don;t fit well in the contender format.
I would take Bundrage over Elder. Would you care to make a friendly wager should the two meet up?
Rockin' :boxing:
at first when i saw the extreme machine on the list i thoguht he'd do well
but these fights are at welter
elder is a lightweight
does this play in to your thoughts rockin?
Bret Cooper was horrible, the magic of television man. they made him look like he was good. Look at his record Im pretty sure he couldnt even beat reggie strickland. he fought decent against Fraza if I remember correectly but he still lost.
I still love the show though. The fact that they go in to detail about the fighter's lives adds something to it. I felt like I knew the boxers. it was one of my favorite shows and I cant wait till this season because I know ESPN will do a good job.
Its a list of journeyman...it will be fun to watch Ebo get his face puffed up and all but this list does not excite me at all.
Not one of these guys on this list will ever become a real legit threat for a world title (Forbes aside)...horrid list!
I'll take Ebo Elder over some protected softie who is 15-0. Some of you are way too caught up in records. If a guy can fight, I don't care if he even has a losing record, I'll watch him.
What!!!
stewart gave Hatton a little trouble....and Elder and Forbes are young contenders and even Eason is good.
Boxrec says Hatton TKOed Stewart in round 5, and Stewart down twice in round one, once in round five
Gave him trouble, colaberate?
Mitchell whooped his ass aswell to a UD

Jeff Fraza tore Brent Cooper a new one when they fought, not to say that Brent was an awsome fighter but he is a better boxer than Jeff and got worked. I like Jeff, he's the brawler type with lots of heart, i'll be rooting for him.
hmm good thing i see about this year is that atleast some of the people have fought top level competition. IDk about some of the guys though. A guy with 10 losses? Why is he even considered, its not like hes on a winning streak either. He must work at K-mart.
He might be another Augustus?

I dont know guys. He has no unbeatens but he has more real legit fighters.
Also, I think alot of unbeaten fighters probally didnt want to come on the show after they saw how guys were losing there great records in 5 round fights.
I aslo think the show felt a littile guilty about having these guys losing there good records. I also think they wanted a littile more proven guys and give them a shot to make big money because they have kind of earned it
