He showed he had courage and his main flaw against elite level competition(At 140) based on the Cotto fight would be power to keep punchers at a distance. So since he makes 140 rather easy, how do you guy's think he would do at 135? Maybe it could increase his POP!
No, the interviewer mentioned that. Paulie basically shot him down, but threw the "you never know" possibility (which basically means no)
Paulie actually stated "Maybe in the future, ill take a couple of fights to get some experience, then catch him probably at 147 bc i think he is moving up"
I don't think that there is a reason for him to move up anytime soon.
HOW CAN YOU SAY HIS FLAW AGAINST ELITE COMPETITION, FIRST OFF COTTO ISNT REALLY ELITE HE IS MADE OUT TO BE ELITE BUT HE IS FAR FROM IT, HE IS THE SAME THING GATTI WAS WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER A GREAT WARRIOR BUT GETS PUNISHED WHEN FACING SOMEONE GREAT WHO CAN BOX. PUT COTTO IN AGAINST MAYWEATHER OR DLH SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN TO HIM AS DID GATTI, HE WOULD BE EMBARRASSED. PROBLEM I HAVE WITH YOUR STATEMENT IS NOT ONLY THAT YOU CALL COTTO ELITE COMPETITION YOUR BASING YOUR JUDGEMENT ON HOW PAULIE DID ON HIS FIRST FIGHT AGAINST "BETTER" COMPETITION. GIVE HIM SOME MORE EXPERIENCE AND A FEW MORE YEARS HE WILL BE BETTER THAN COTTO. ATLEAST WE KNOW WHO HAS THE BETTER CHIN NOW.......(I AM TALKING ABOUT PAULIE)
i dont understand y u say hes not elite. paulie was supposed to beat him easily by boxing but he got punished and now cotto is being bashed for it. if paulie would've won he would be considered elite and everyone would be fantasizing oh how bout paulie vs. hatton or paulie vs. corrales but cotto doesnt get that respect by beating him. they say u r only the greatest if u beat the greatest. so if paulie beat cotto then he would be labeled elite but from beating someone who is not elite? that wouldnt make sense.. right?
bottom line: stop bashing cotto he has only 27 fights, they r moving him up perfectly and he never talks trash so really no one should have anything bad to say about him except if u r hating.
Now... im not saying he IS elite. He still has some questions to answer from my point of view but he has faced adversity in torres and corley and is facing boxers like paulie. he is still a student of the game and is not rushing to face the mayweathers and de la hoyas so it really annoys me when people try to put him down when all he is really doing is gaining experience and getting better.
I thought they asked if he would fight Cotto again, and Paulie said that Cotto is probably going up to 147 so he doesn't know. I don't think he said anything about moving up yet.
I believe he did - though it was a "maybe I'll be at 147 and we'll fight then" comment - I taped it and I need to refer to it again to make sure...
In the interview, Paulie mentioned running into Cotto later at 147 - I don't think he's looking back to 135...

We all know who has tons more power too. Paulie will never be better than Cotto. :p

Good point Derranged I doubt he'll ever be a big puncher, I thought maybe it would give him enough to keep guy's at distance atleast. Had he been able to do that to Cotto who knows what happens, for example at welter and 154 (when PBF goes up) he's no "puncher" but he hits hard enough to keep guy's off that ass!
No problem I just said elite because to PM it was a major step up, but I thought he did himself proud and as long as he is physically okay should have a bright future. Cotto has shown great heart at times from getting up off the floor to getting to his corner when seriously hurt. But I'm anxious to see his next few fight's when he steps it up to fight Castillo or Hatton ETC, then we all can better gauge how good he is.
I actually was making this thread because he did earn my respect, I was predicting that since Cotto is 1 level below the very elite's as you named he's still arguably the best at 140. PM did well but had he had more pop he could've had a better chance at winning,I realize he could make noise at 140 eventually. Just was curious how ppl felt that he would do at 135, because he could make it and maybe that would increase his power. I wasn't dissin PM or claiming Cotto to be on a PBF or Oscar or any other guy who's been tested against the best before.
MY MISTAKE THEN I APPOLOGIZE WHEN YOU SAID ELITE FIGHTERS I THOUGHT YOU MEANT COTTO WAS ELITE AND I ALMOST SHIT MY PANTS BUT I SEE WHAT YOUR SAYING
AND I AGREE HE COULD BE SOMETHING ELSE AT 135 BUT THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE QUITE HARD TO REACH CONSIDERING HE IS A NATURAL 140LB BUT IT'S NOT TO SAY HE COULDNT MAKE 135 IT WOULD JUST BE MORE DIFFICULT JUDGING FROM HIS MUSCULAR AND CUT FRAME.
