Shane used to be a top 5 p4p superstar. He was on the road to glory and sarting to make big waves when he was easily defeated by Vernon Forrest several years ago. Since then he has not been the same. Some say it is because of the loss to Forrest, others say that his decline coincides with the closing of Balco, where Shane was rumored to have gotten steroids from.
Mosley used to be a lightweight wth blazing speed and crunching power.
Well I heard he swelled Vargas up pretty bad and I also read he's giving him a rematch, but the crazy thing was in the everlast article I read he wants to fight PBF Mayweather Jr..
Is Shane originally a real good fighter? I mean he looked good against Wright, but like you said couldn't get away from the jab, but it looked as if he wasn't turning his game on. My coach knew him and about every other superstar you see now when they were in amateur boxing, because his son was a helluva boxer, but anyway that's the first time I ever seen Shane fight, i've seen pictures but that's about it.

This is exactly why I think winky developed that defense because of the fact that he can be easily hurt. I saw exactly what you saw in the Mosley fight when he dropped his hands & let Shane hit him. Winky felt that punch and he immediately decided to hold Shane.
If Taylor lands flush punch it'll be interesting to say the least on how Winky would handle it.
I've only seen Taylor fight once and that was against Eduaord or something like that and it seems apparent to me Taylor has that one hit knockout power, but even if he doesn't knock you down or out when he hits you it'll still faze ya..
He was very good when he was at 135lbs. Then he went to 147lbs. and beat Oscar De La Hoya (the first time)...he started getting obsessed with weight-lifting and shit. That, IMO, lead to his downfall. Some people felt the first knockdown of his career (that came from the hands of Vernon Forrest) turned him kind of scary, but I don't think so.
Now Winky has helluva defense, I just got done watch his 2nd fight with Shane Mosley about the only time Mosley actually connected clean was when Winky let himself get hit and it looked like he got rocked!!!

Vasquez was a good fighter in those times. He was a top 5 jnr. middle as Winky was on his way up. Winky said after the fight that it wasn't the power thatmade him fall down, but his shoes.
Manny isn't the only one with weird excuses.
In my opinion, Shane did good offensively in that fight but he couldn't get out of the way of the jab. In round one I think he lands like a 4 punch combo on Winky, but Jim Lampley and company don't even acknowledge it.
But I agree with you, he's got a real good defense now. That shows that there's hope for anyone who has the will to be great...even Hoskins.

who was that he was fighting? i saw he lost a fight a while back which was the only time he lot a UD was in 1994, is this from that fight?
A guy named Julio casar Vasquez whom was 50-1 when this happened. He learned his D after that fight and really has not be beaten since.
Damb, and look at him now. If I saw that fight back then and you asked me that he was gonna be one of the most skilled fighters I would laugh in your face and say yeah right.
We all would've done that, damn.

That fight was a lot closer than it should have been with five KD's.
Judge: Marcos A. Torres 110-115 | Judge: Ove Ovesen 110-114 | Judge: Marcial Vargas 110-113

His legs looked like they weren't there. It's as if he got caught with something big and never recovered.
That's Winky at his absolute worse.

His legs looked like they weren't there. It's as if he got caught with something big and never recovered, because some of those shots he was getting hit with weren't even landing cleanly and he was falling all over the place.
