Did I hear that right? Am I the only one who caught that? Oscar looked good but I dont know if he looked 149 good.
Im surprised that he actually said that though because now it has me wondering. A couple of fights ago remember how he was talking about coming down to 147?
If he weighs 149 right now, before training then he can fight Floyd at 147. I dont think anyone assumed the fight would be at 147 and I still dont think it will be but maybe Oscar has something else in mind.
Floyd is a small guy and it will be hard for him to go up to 154 but on the other hand, if Oscar's in great shape then he may feel like that he will be even stronger at 147 and will beat Floyd even worse. Whats your thoughts on this? If Oscar can make 147 comfortably and without draining himself then do you think its possible that he can be even better at 147 or has a better chance of killing Floyd at 147?
Also, Im starting to think that Oscar really wants to go down in History as a All Time Great. I think pretty much 99% of the people think that Floyd is a better pound for pound fighter easily but he could lose because Oscar is good and 154 would be way too much for Floyd against a great fighter like Oscar. Thats why if Floyd does lose then Oscar will get alot of credit but alot of the people will still say that Floyd is better but 154 was just way too big for him.
However if Oscar beats him at 147 then no one can say that and his win would look 10x better. He would actually beat the best pound for pound fighter in his own weight class. How special would that be? We all know that Floyd right now is probally still better at 140 but he is still great at 147 and to beat him there would be big.
Also, Oscar looks glowing after his Mayorga win and I know he's rich but Oscar truly has a chance to go down in History as one of the best ever. Think about this: He beat Vargas, Sturm, Mayorga, really beat Shane once, really beat Tito, Quartey, Chaves, Sweet Pea, Gatti, and a bunch of other names. Now all of those wins werent as great as there names but its still a good resume but thats not my point. Now think about this: He beats Floyd at 147 for huge PPV numbers that could set records. Now he's at 147, the best division in boxing and everyone wants to fight Oscar.
If he beats Floyd then theres no reason to think he couldnt beat Hatton, then Cotto, Margarito, Castillo, and on and on until he retires. Imagine retiring with those names?
Its all still just crazy fantasy talk because were all pretty sure that this fight will happened at 154 and it will be Oscars last "but" what if it is at 147? Things would get real intersting then. Either way you look at it, a win over Floyd at 147 would look much more impressive but would the fight still be as exciting to you guys and would the guys who picked Oscar 1st still think he would win or would the odds on the fight change more in Floyds favor or will this make the odds and the people who were picking Oscar 1st even more convinced that he would win?
I think this fight is a done deal at 147. No announcement as yet that I'm aware of. Just a matter of time. Probably this fall if De La Hoya's shoulder is OK.
There's so many things playing into this fight I really don't know who to pick. What weight will it be at? Does Floyd Mayweather Sr. really have the perfect plan to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.? Is Oscar really as good as the Mayorga win suggests? What style does each guy use in this fight?
I really have no idea. I'm going to try to watch some of the fights of theirs in the next couple of days. Maybe I can try to analyze their styles.
Thats the thing though, Oscar looked SUPERIOR destroying a garbage fighter in Mayorga. People seem to be writing Floyd off in this thread. I visualize a very tactiful fight with a lot of sizing up. We probably wont see a fight till rounds 3 or 4. Too much respect from both. Mayweather can crack and Oscar will get cracked alot in this fight , his defence is sub par.
Delahoya is once again lying about his weight. Before signing with Mayorga at 154 he said he was down to almost 147. We all found out at the press conference that wasn't true.
I think Floyd will be as happy as Oscar to fight at 154lbs because that will make him the champion of ANOTHER division if he beats Oscar.
If he beats Oscar and takes the WBC 154lbs title he further cements his legacy and means he's been the champion at 5 weights from super feather all the way to light middleweight.
You make a great point and I forgot all about that. I think Floyd does want that 154 title but on the other hand he is still realativley young, in his prime and Im sure he wouldnt mind fighting Oscar at 147, beating a couple of more guys there, and then finishing up his career at 154 with a couple of fights. That way the weight would be more natural for him
If the fight is at 154, I dont think PBF will weight more than 150lbs come fight time. Even for the Zab fight he weighted the Exact same amount at fight time that he did in the weigh-in, 146lbs.
I agree. I could see Floyd from like 149-151 in the ring and Oscar at 165-171. I honestly believe that he could outweigh Floyd by 20 pounds in the ring but its not like we'll ever really know because you know Oscar wont weigh in before the fight because he doesnt want to look like he beat a much smaller man

If Oscar really weights 149 I wouldn’t be surprised because if you look at most of the fighters that he has struggled with, they have all been faster than he is. This could be a way of him trying to cut down that huge speed difference. Oscar will be stronger than PBF at either 147 or 154 but PBF wont fill out 154 and will be much faster than Oscar and that is what he may be trying to avoid. Oscar also struggles with crafty fighters like Bernard and Floyd is a crafty fighter with speed. If Oscar really weights 149, I think that it would be a very smart move.

its like this if ur in oscars position
fight ur opponent at 147 where he has abetter chance but u also have will have ahuge advantage
fight ur opponent at 154 where ur oppenent has alot less chance but u have an even greater chance then at 147
so it comes down does he wanna fight floyd close to fair
or does he wanna make it as easy as possible for him to win
he was being sarcastic i think
Good point. Could be but I doubt it. He seemed like he was saying it in a confident kind of way like he cant wait to fight Floyd and he's going to do everything he can to win since its his last fight and that means not putting on any weight in between fights

yeah i saw that on espn saying hes at 149...am i the only one that hopes this fight is at 147 rather than 154, i think a fight at super welter will be very lobsided, PBF will be slower and weaker while DLH will be in his comfort zone...as a boxing fan i would rather see a good fight and i think that can only happen at 147
Nah, I disagree, kind of. I think Floyd will still win at 154 even though it would be a disadvantage but you cant judge everything on the Zab & Mayorga fights. Mayorga was specially made for Oscar, just like he was for Tito and then Winks destroys Tito in the next fight. Zab was a southpaw who has alot of the same skills as Floyd so he can give him problems.
I honestly believe that Floyd is just a bad matchup for Oscar and he can beat him farily comfortable even at 154 but I kind of rather the fight be at 154 because it adds to the drama. How will Floyd look and can he hang with the big boys at that weight? 147 would probally be better though and more exciting but I still think Floyd wins at 154.
Matter of fact, call me crazy but Im actually more concerned of Floyd losing at 147 then at 154. I think Oscar "could" look like a Monster at 147. At 154 Oscar still looks to slow to me but at 147 he will have alot of speed and mad power
