It does alot for his legacy, but he's going to have to turn back the clock, and throw volumes of looping punches.
Because that going about the motions cautiously cost Hopkins his last 2 fights. He has to be busy and keep the pressure on Tarver.

your entitled to your own opinion... many people who argue usually have no basis , because either they dont know what the fuck they talkin about or they didnt see the fight and i believe you fall under one of those ...so eat a dick ,,,

Of course his stock almost doubles. I mean holding a middleweight title defense record is one thing, but jumping to another class and beating the best guy, a guy Roy Jones Jr. could not defeat, is huge for anybody at Light Heavyweight and under. Hopkins will surpass Jones by miles if he is able to beat Tarver in my opinion.
Here's my question, what will a Tarver win do for him? If Hopkins loses IMO it won't do anything for Tarver, real boxing fans will just say he beat another over the hill boxer(wether it's true or not) who was in the wrong weightclass. I think that he knocked out a primed RJJ and beat Johnson( i didn't see this fight though), now he found his gimic "the legend(old man) Killer". I remember hearing that he wanted to fight Tyson and i thought it wasn't true, but when i saw him talking about it on the countdown that's when i lost what little respect i had for him.
Whilst I can see what you are saying, people physically age at different rates, regardless of how active they've been.
Hopkins is obviously a bit of a genetic freak to be at the top of the sport as long as he has (& also at his age) for a middleweight.
It's also impossible & too simplistic for people to say 'Roy losing all the weight after the Ruiz fight made him age'.. Could be true, but who really knows?
Honestly, it's not too simplistic or a cop out. It's just factually accurate, as any athletic training course will teach you. The permanent effect of severe muscle atrophy is a real issue that can be learned out of or inside the classroom.
But.....
Don't you think Hopkins proves something, when compared against Roy's series with Tarver ?
Why would Roy be any more faded than Hopkins is ?
Roy is younger, did not have a tougher career, & certainly did not live a tougher life.
No matter what you think of Tarver.....it ( a win)is a big task for someone at this stage of Hopkins' career to accomplish.
Roy damaged his body to fight Tarver.
Hopkins will ENHANCE his body to fight Tarver. This fight for Hopkins is like when Roy got to fight Ruiz. They both had Macky Shilstone, got to move up in weight, and did not have to worry about draining anything.
When Roy fought Tarver, he had to sit in a sauna for hours. Hopkins will not have to deal with that.
Would this win be big for Hopkins? Kind of. No matter what, Tarver is still a B fighter and has proven it. But he IS the champ, and that does mean something. I just don't think it's earth-shattering.

lol yea , people think when u file bankruptcy that your broke , just means you dont have to pay back the money you owe, rich white people have been doin it for years , then everybody got hip to it and they change the rules a lil bit ...
lol....exactly....lol
if he beats tarver, he'll beat the guy who twice beat the guy who beat him.
meaning: tarver beat jones twice, jones beat hopkins, if hopkins beats tarver, hopkins gets revenge on jones.
how the fuk do u get bankrupt!!!!!
25mill is alot..!!!
BANKRUPT doesnt mean you are broke..you are still sitting on a ton of money...it ensures that you dont go broke...look it up playa...
Hopkins won against Taylor twice? :D Then just shove back your opinion into your ass. :p
Why are there disillusional fools like you who can't accept reality? Get over it, Bhops lost twice!
word...............
I think it enhances it, in a huge way.
Hopkins is a lot older than the Roy Jones who couldn't handle Tarver.
win or loss he is still a legend BUT a win would definitely put him up there with the best...the ruled middleweight and to go up in your first lightheavy weight defense and kick butt...man.....
If Hopkins wins, and RJJ wins, maybe these two will fight?
That the best reason I can think of for Hopkins to win a close, maybe hotly disputed, decision. Follow the money.

Roy Jones having to lose 20 pounds of muscle did more damage than anything that happened to Hopkins regarding boxing and health.
I HATE Roy Jones, but that's a fact.
jabs, i take it that your picking nard... how do you see fight turning out? how will nard win? i'm picking AT in a snoozer by decision..
I pick it the same as you....
I don't like the way Hopkins has been fighting. He would need to take more chances against Tarver, than he has been taking. But he won't, as Tarver is far more dangerous than Jermain Taylor.

Not much. What has Tarver really done other than beat up a ridiculously faded version of Jones?
And Tarver is something like 37 himself.
It'll be just a couple of over-rated, old men fighting on over-hyped HBO bullshit.
