Question on Corrales' Ethics

It's the equivalent of fouling the other team late in a game in basketball, or fouling away from the basket when you're up by 3 knowing the opponent only gets 2 shots. Is it sportsmanlike? Maybe not. But it's within the rules... fouls happen every single game in fact thats what the refs are there for.Spitting your mouth piece out is a whole different kind of stragedy.this is more like a flagrant foul 2 of those gives you an early shower.I would like to see the rule that states..."You may spit your mouth piece out if you need to buy time"

I can accept all that with the exception that Castillo was 3 1/2 pounds over not 2, other than that I say sure. my fault, i thought it was 2. i will edit.

Bottom line: Corrales cheated, by manually removing his mouthpiece in an attempt to gain extra time to recover from being knocked down. He was penalized by having a point deducted. Problem solved. Your thoughts LOL, UpperCut gave me bad K for stating an oppinion that was different from his....This was an oppinion that I gave background to and not just one I pulled out of no where. Word to the wise, if you dont want to listen or read oppinons that differ from your views then perhaps you shouldn't start a thread that ask for Peoples thoughts on the subject :rolleyes:

There is a story of the accused being questioned in a court of law for Murder.. Prosecutor: Can you tell us in detail what happen on the night of the 15th? Accused: At approximately 9:00 PM I can home from work when I heard noises from my bedroom. As I approached the bedroom, I saw my wife in bed with some guy. I walked away and thought I'd have an apple. As I don't eat unpeeled apples, I took a knife to peal it. As I was taking out the knife, the man who was in bed with my wife walked into the kitchen and slipped on an apple peal, when ACCIDENTALLY landing on the knife that I was holding in my hand. Same thing happened 18 times. ------------------------------ The moral of the story is that how many times accidental could it be, oh and so conveniently when he was being KD every time. These two went through war the rest of the fight and the mouthpiece was never an issue until Corrales was being KOed. There is no doubt in my head that it was NOT accidental, but as others voted on this poll, I do agree that he was just playing by the rules as Neils pointed out that being part of dirty tactics. Look at the Barrera Juarez fight. Barrera was having mouthpiece issues thoughout the fight How come nobody ever believes me? Seriously though, I never thought it was an accident, with Corrales, he needed to buy time and he did and it worked for him. Every sport has situations like that, where the outcome of obaying the rules is worse than the penalty for breaking the rules.

I personally would give him the benefit of the doubt based on his character. He made no excuses after the 2nd fight even though he was continously proded by Larry Merchant into saying that the weight was an issue. The same pride and warrior mentality that persuaded him to stand toe-to-toe with Castillo wouldn't allow him to make excuses for his loss. This is shown throught his fighting history when interviewed after wins and losses. So after the first Castillo fight when he said he didn't mean to spit it out and that he was trying to put catch it in his glove when it slipped out, I would grant him the benefit of the doubt although I understand how others might see it differently. However I do believe that "It accidentally slipped when he was trying to grab it with his glove" should've atleast been an option....that is all I'm saying. As it stands the 2 current options have already judged that he did intentionally spit it onto the floor. Either way, even if it was intentional it was in the heat of battle and not as dastardly an act as intentionally coming in overweight.

Corrales is a warrior and I for one believe him when he says he attempted to put grab his mouth piece with his glove and hold it. He said that because of the nature of boxing gloves that it slipped from his grasp. I give him the benefit of the doubt but either ways it was clearly not premeditated as was the Castillo incident. anything that you can do to win and not get dq'ed is a part of the game. corrales used the bounderies of the rules to his advantage just like a lot of people do. i see nothing wrong with this, i just dont think that anything is going to save him this time around.

To lose 3 lbs when you at less then 5% body fat is real difficult. 3 lbs is very hard when these guys have been dieting for months, and especially when they are dried out already.

possibly, but theres no way to tell. i could also say that corrales probably would have won the rematch if castillo had made weight. It can go either way. Thats why we have a rubbermatch coming up 2 moro!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah thats a good point. im just thinking of the outcome, i hope it doesnt go all the way so no side can call out for unfair judges. we need a knockout victory, no mouth piece problems and no weight issues

he did what he needed to do WITHIN the rules. He was penalized, which is exactly what should have happened. Imagine the uproar is corrales had been dq'd for spitting out his mouthpiece.
