This is too funny. They did fight back in 1984. Tyson beat the crap out of Lewis. They spared a lot back then. Tyson even knocked Lewis out of the ring! Tyson wins by a second round KO if they fight Pro and in Tysons prime.
no fucking way. lewis beats tyson every time, terrible matchup for tyson. lewis would frustrate and humiliate tyson.
dont get me wrong i like tyson but lewis is the perfect guy to beat him.
All Tyson needs is one shot to Lewi's brittle chin and he's going down like a giant oak tree ! Just a matter of time before Tyson slips one lazy jab and "lights out" for big Lennox ! lol
tyson easy no question about it. whens the last time lewis has fought some1 of tyson caliber in there prime with the hand speed and power and defense of a prime tyson?? NEVER
Lewis is great, all I am really saying is Lewis 02' vs. Tyson of 86' would not be like like Lewis 02' vs. Tyson 02'. Tyson was different then...
On the subject of prime - Tyson would knock out Lennox Lewis.
Age had nothing to do with it by the time Tyson V Lewis did happen (one fighter was washed up, the other wasn't, simple as that), and obviously, Lewis was the only fighter of the two who i would label as anywhere near his best, despite age. Lewis matured as a fighter as he got older, Tyson was simply finished as a fighter by the time he fought Lewis. That fact was emphasised by defeats to Williams and McBride (not much emphasis should be placed on his comeback victory over the joke that is Clifford Etienne).
Theoretically, picture the Tyson who destroyed Trevor Berbick for the heavyweight title (This is when i would label Tyson at his awesome best) against Lennox Lewis at his best.
Sorry, but despite the arguments for height, power, etc, etc in Lewis' favour, Mike Tyson would have beaten Lewis.
I take nothing away from Lewis, he was a great fighter but IMO Tyson was much better and i could give my reasons why but i'd be going on all day.
Tyson at his best beats Lewis at his best, end of.
Larry Holmes went the distance with a prime Evander Holyfield years later and gave him a great fight.
holyfield was never a big puncher and he won the fight handily
The Lewis that fought Tyson was about 80% of his prime version, the Tyson that fought Lewis was about 25% of his prime version.
Tyson by early knockout.

Impossible really to say, I THINK that a prime Tyson would most certainly put up a better fight. Watch Tyson's early fights...LOTS of quick head movements, I've seen him go down dodging punches with movement in his head and waist almost in a catchers squat, no way Lewis hits him moving down there...There is no doubt that Tyson hits lewis much more often, and Lewis hits Tyson less than in their '02 meeting.
Yes, Tyson struggled with big guys with jabs, but I truly believe that Tyson would beat Douglas 9/10 times. Tyson was not in it that night in Tokyo, and Douglas fought the PERFECT fight, and Tyson still nearly won. Lewis is different though, much better than Douglas could dream of being.
Basically my thinking is either Tyson by KO within the first 5 rds...if it goes longer than that then Lewis starts to win rounds and either wins in a decision, or maybe a LATE (11th, 12th) KO
Soda...
Very good post, fair points you make.

Razor is the one semi-big name on Tyson's resume...and don't give me that Larry Holmes crap, he was older than Moses when they faught...Lewis never ducked anybody and his list of victims is awesome

My brother was saying something about: Tyson's father dieing about a week before the fight between him and douglas. He thinks Tyson would win because hed been trained specifically for fighting tall people, and to get in, use his rapid head movements etc.

yes he was...to bad he had issues in his personnal life that kept him from being one of the 'all time greats'

Same outcome as in 2002...if it was a prime Lewis, a more brutal K.O. would ensue
Tyson was a well tuned machine in the 80's, he would be much harder to hit than a 36 year old Tyson from 2002. You can say Lewis would win if you want but to say Lewis would dominate again is hard to believe. The reason I say this is because Tyson was actually a great figter in the 1980's, he had it all. The Tyson of 2002 was garbage after one round, he became a one round fighter. The Tyson of the late 80's/early 90's could bang with Razor Ruddock for 12 rounds, he had much better stamina then.
Prime Tyson would have stood a much better chance. My bias for Tyson aside(because I'm a fan), I would lean toward Tyson by early KO if it was the 86 Tyson vs. the 2002 Lewis. Thats my honest opinion, even if I hated Tyson I would say that, just off what I have seen from both fighters.
